What's the smallest caliber you'd trust for self defense? Can't decide whether to go with a .380 or 9mm for a compact carry.

.22 when fired from this

.380 but my first choice is 577 and my second is 44. I hate it when they flop about.

Makarov is the smallest I'd go, but I'd greatly prefer to carry 9mm.
Good self defense 9mm is the ideal between penetration, expansion, and capacity.

25 acp.

Hard to cc a 270 Rd drum, I bet

.22 or .25, the performance is about even in pistols
I've carried 380, it isn't a bad round but I prefer .40 Problem Solver

I'd trust my life to a .25 auto.

Smallest I'd go would be 25 ACP.
As far as energy goes, a 22lr will do the job, but rimfire ammunition is just not as reliable as centerfire.

There have been numerous discussions about this and in most given situations, most professionals across all shooting disciplines choose the 9mm. Modern 9mm ammunition with a reasonable shooter behind it trumps all competition. If you're not especially a good aim, go for .22 and just dump as much as you can. If you're a good aim go for .45 ACP but most people struggle with the follow up shots in a 'real' situation.

I'd have trusted .22 if it ran reliably.

.32 it is.

I carry a 10mm because I'm a faggot. 9mm is the smallest I'd consider

This.

Why does no one like 10mm tho

380.
but i would not hesitate to use 22lr if it was at hand.

A single shot .17 wildcat made from a .22 short. It's all I can afford so it'll have to do.

All the things I've read and watched give these same answers. They weigh up cost, capacity, penetration and recoil. And if we think about it, makes sense really.

Did you mean to say "because I'm NOT a faggot", or does carrying 10mm make you a faggot for some reason I'm unaware of?

why does this fucking debate still happen god damnit
>9mm is fucking fine!
>.40 is fucking fine!
>45acp is fucking fine!

concealed carry small pistol
>.380 is fucking fine
>9mm is fucking fine
>.40 is fucking fine, especially extended mag
buy whatever ammo you can afford to practice with what you carry and go to the goddamn range

.45

5.45 if we're talking about rifles

Obviously 50AE or 20ga
anything else isnt suitable for self defense

/Thread

>ask someone who routinely carries a .25acp twice a week anything

Also IMO .32acp is criminally underrated

>pic related.

You can use a smaller drum. Also was thinking more about home defense

.380

.22 magnum that's verified to do at least 12" in gel.

But I would much prefer .38, .380 or 9mm.

>Self defence
>.25ACP
NIGGA WHAT?
PEOPLE WERE LITERALLY MAGDUMPED BY 9MM's AND DRAGGED THEMSELVES TO THE HOSPITAL AFTERWARDS

Definitely would be a preferred choice if I could afford one full auto

>expecting serious stopping power out of a handgun
Thats what rifles are for

There is literally nothing wrong with .380 and ballistically speaking defensive loads are effectively identical to 9mm.

10mm is identical to .40s&w for many, if not most loads. You need to do your research and make sure you are buying the correct ammo for 10mm otherwise you are paying more for absolutely zero extra firepower over .40 s&w.

I have no idea why so many ammo manufacturers do this, but they do...

video related. Proof that some loads of .40s&w and 10mm chronograph within about 10-20 fps of each other shooting identical projectiles.

But if you buy the correct ammo 10mm can be significantly more powerful. Just do your homework and make sure you are getting the good stuff.

>everyone says 25 and 32 and doesn't argue
chill out kid
