It's a S&W 2206. There're few sister models like the 422 or 622 that you can find for pretty damn cheap. I keep seeing them for about $200-$300 at the local gun shows. The low bore axis makes me love it forever

I like it a lot? Only 1250 rounds through it thus far but it's been great, handles like any old striker fired handgun. Feels better to use in rapid fire courses than the CZ P10C my friend has. Can't really say much more than that right now since I have so few rounds through it. At the 2500, 5000, and 10,000 mark I plan to do little write-ups for /hg/ on it.

I don't know as in the USA or Western Europe, but here 90% of villagers own old airguns, either Slavia 630, 631 or old Soviet Izh 22 or 38. They were easy to obtain during socialism and weren't expensive (to shoot, heck I remember shooting wheat grains through the Izh when I was a kid)
I bought a vz. 47, which is an airgun made for the military to make shooting less expensive (even though they are complicated as fuck and expensive to make, also they use a unicorn caliber lead BBs)
As for their power, the older ones are usually 7,5J which is probably enough for a rat and smaller birds but that's about it. The newer ones have stronger springs which can be 16J, but I am pretty sure you can find airguns with 30+J output in the USA.

Also, there's a ton of pellet choices with different penetration abilities, velocity, etc. A big plus is that they are really cheap compared to firearms ammunition.

Oh I'm fully aware of what could've been stolen. I'm not even the biggest fan of the 10/22 but the one that was stolen was a very special gun to me so in my mind getting a replacement would at least help patch the hole my first gun left. I worked all damn summer on my grandafther's farm as a kid and got that as a reward for all my work.

I won't be afraid to be rough with my newer, generic guns. A Glock or an AK I'll toss around all fucking day, ride hard and put away wet. With a good milsurp though, I'll be afraid to scratch the wood or scuff the blueing so I'm much more gentle with those.
That said, makes me die a little on the inside to see a few of those milsurps just cast into the bed of a pickup with a million other guns. Please do not do this.
