1911 thread

1911 thread

finally decided to pull the trigger and treat myself to my first 1911 later this week. Can we have a thread to get me in the mood?

Right on OP!

Also, can anybody tell me if this is normal barrel wear?

Get a Glock you pus

I'm a child of the 80s, so I've always wanted one.

Yes. Shoot it more.

Also, 1911.

What are some 1911s that have the features and quality of or better than a Springfield loaded with no rail, at a similar price, but aren't Springfield?
I need to atone to the Jow Forumsube for giving me divine intervention, and I think buying a good 1911 is a way to do it.

have one, wanted something special to treat myself with
Almost got a Sig but theres always time for that later

ruger
remington
smith and wesson

>remington
Really? I only ever see trash talking towards Remington, even their 1911s.

What companies a good choice for front strap checkering? Can't find anyone local.

What model? Stainless or carbon?

I have an r1, its pretty good. But I did want a no frills gi 1911 and it was cheaper then a replica

Are Rock Island 1911s shit?

Rock Island's alright, the main draw is that it's alright while being cheap as fuck.

its the glock of 1911s
>cheap

and thats about it. The finish is meh, some of their higher end models get pricey which defeats the purpose. Ive had one with no issues, my buddies did have issues so you do get lemons occasionally

Is that a premier 2?

My baby started as a Mil-Spec and ended up this.

It's a sin that King's went out of business. They make the only Springfield-specific drop-in grip safety.

Attached: 1911 final 2.jpg (3264x2448, 1.75M)

Kings also made good ambi safeties.

my CC pistol with my OC knife

At first I was like “what’s with the dykem?”
But then I was like “oh, cool then”

should I pony up and pay an extra $100 for a stainless or matte finish? Is it more durable and less likely to idiot scratch than parkerized, black or blue?

and who makes the best/worst mags?

Is nitride a good finish? What are the ups and downs compared to bluing or parkerizing?

Attached: sr1911 black.jpg (640x480, 85K)

are para ordanance and taurus 1911s ok?
I know taurus is basically a joke but I dont often hear about their 1911s

UTC. I just put regular thickness grips on it.

>treat myself
>treat myself
user pls. Sounds like some shit a chick would say. Just say nigger I wanted a 1911 deal with it.

Honestly, every major big gun brand (with the exception of hi point) has completely viable firearms. Even with a shitty Taurus 1911, you're only looking at one jam (if that) every few hundreds of rounds...

But if you're looking for a 1911 on a budget, go with Rock Island Armory. I know they use some forged rather than milled parts and there's people that frown upon that, but it doesn't really make a difference. A Rock Island is every bit as reliable as Springfield or Colt (and many people say moreso).

It is a great finish. The main caveat with nitrocarburizing is that it can discolor with harsh solvents. Don't use anything harsher than Hoppe's and it should be fine.

Bluing is prettier imo but more susceptible to rust. Parkerizing gives oil a really great way to cling to metal but if it dries out it can rust quick.

For durability I'd say QPQ/nitrocarb/melonite/tennifer > > > parkerization > bluing.

There are other finishes of course.

Git Government model. Full size. Fun times ahead.

Yeah I gotta do the blending now.

Surprisingly not because they stay true to the basic design. The pricefags will hate you, but meh. Good first 1911.

How can I tell how sharp or harsh a solvent is?
I usually just use CLP on things, and Hoppes for the bad stuff.

If you've been doing your research, then you should already know this, but it IS important....

Get a full size 1911 .45 if you're gonna get one. The recoil on the compact 1911 .45 is a beast and it fucks your accuracy hard. But a full size (commander model), it doesn't really hit you much harder than a Glock 1911.

I had a compact Kimber .45 for a bit but I sold it because my accuracy was dogshit with it.

>But a full size (commander model), it doesn't really hit you much harder than a Glock 19
was what I meant to say.

I don't think there's any kind of rating but it would go something like
Hydrochloric acid>MEK>acetone>alcohol>copper cleaner>Hoppe's>CLP>oil

Anyone know anything about Wilson Combat 1911s? I've heard they are worth it, but has anyone on here ever shot one or own one? What benefits do they have over say your standard Ruger or other mid range 1911?

I want to get my first 1911 soon after finally fondling one at a gun store.
Do you think it's smarter to start small, with some rougher but cheaper model like a Rock Island Tactical, and upgrade it over time? Or should I get the features and parts on it off the bat from a bigger or higher-end name?

Attached: 1524166072741.jpg (4272x2848, 1.51M)

Are rat tails still good?

save up for what you really want. if you want a nicer 1911 then getting a low end one will just be a waste of your time and money. unless you actually want multiple 1911s of varying quality.

that card is unique and a formality

Is that the one you got OP?
Those series 70 mk ivs in stainless have been out of stock everywhere forever. Where did you find it?

did you get that gun from Posiedon himself?

This. though the lowend 1911, as long as it is forged frame of good steel, will last you a good 100+ years. 1911s are love, 1911s are life.

meme 1911

Attached: DSCI1087.jpg (4000x3000, 2.96M)

That's just meme shit.

HI points are p damn reliable.
Ugly af, but reliable and accurate.

Is there a guide to 1911s somewhere? I'm interested in one and can go as high as $700.

I've also considered building one. Is this the way today, like the AR?

I bought a Remington 1911 and bought some Colt grips from this guy at my work. He said if you use a regular screwdriver to replace the grips you'll scratch the screws to shit. Is there any truth to that, do I need to buy a special tool just to remove the grips?

hell, you could find a Colt 1911 for that much if you look around enough

Attached: colts.png (957x718, 1.55M)

the good news is that if Colt can't get it together and make available what people want, there are many other options on the market.

Attached: IMG_7727a_zpsb796eb38.jpg (3088x2056, 1.11M)

you need proper drivers for any screw.
what kind did your 1911 come with?
if slotted, you need correctly sized, hollow ground bits.

unlike the AR, most replacement 1911 parts need to be hand fit to the gun.

Attached: 1458952691051.jpg (1920x1200, 298K)

i agree, i hate when men express themselves like soiboi queers

But won't satisfy my autism.

The colt series 70 mkiv government model in stainless is exactly what I want and at msrp is a nice price. Not saying those others are bad in anyway.

Does not hand fitting parts cause failure or just sloppiness?
If I got a 1911 I'd probably want to replace the safety with an ambi one, but have no experience doing any gunsmithing or fitting.

I kinda figured but i am woefully ignorant when t comes to 1911s. Since I got a Tokarev my interest in them has grown.

Fitting a new safety is an easy task. Any mil spec part will most likely drop in without any fitting.

Hand fitting is usually required for match grade parts which are purposely oversized so that the pistolsmith can create a very tight fit. Most of this isn't too difficult and little play bewteen usually won't cause problems. The exception is fitting a barrel, which can be difficult and if you mess up will cause serious reliability and accuracy issues.

I shot my friends Taurus 1911 a month or so back. It was surprisingly smooth on the recoil and fairly accurate at 15 yards. Are all 1911s smooth on recoil? Or was it the ammo we were using? Just cheap shit like blazer brass.

I feel like they're all smooth. The recoil on a 1911 resembles a gentle push to me. My glocks feel alot snappier.

Anyone make an 80% 1911? I may just skip that and buy a finished frame if PSA sells them again.

His hi point in .40 and 9mm were alot more snappy on the recoil. Along with my lcr but I expected that one. A 1911 is going to be one of my next purchases. Are the milsurp ones still collectors only? I remember a thread about having to join some group to purchase one.

I just started working on one. I mean, you're not saving any money with an 80% really, but if you want the extra steps in building a 1911 because you're bored it's kind of cool.

Speaking of 80% 1911 lowers, which is the one that'll get me closest to a USGI 1911 while still being quality?

osiris-tactical.com/product-page/80-1911-45-acp-steel-frame

Just save your cash and buy this. If you fuck it up you should still have money left over to buy another.

Thoughts on the Rock Island M1911A1s? I don't give a shit about brand names or collecting, I just want a solid hand gun and I haven't heard much bad about them.

They're great for the price tag. Best bang for your buck in terms of 1911s.

That seems to be the general consensus. Thanks.

Anyone else not a fan of beavertails? I know slidebite is a bitch but I think the obnoxiously big ones ruin the aesthetics of the 1911

>Anyone else not a fan of beavertails?
They're hideous, but better than losing flesh.

i fucking hate those over size beaver tails
they look god damn stupid and ridiculous

I hate them too. I'm thinking of getting a bobbed hammer to save my hand and hopefully the aesthetics.

I like them, unless ridiculously long.

Yall all must be small hands pole smkerz

What does this mean?

You dont appreciate a little beaver tail. Obviously you dont have hands that are large enough to utilize this feature which leads me to believe you are a faggot.

Thats all. Goodnite

Attached: 61SYmGE96fL._UL1500_.jpg (872x1500, 105K)

I was complaining about hammer bite. Doesn't that mean my hands are large enough to need a beaver tail?

I need a new barrel, where can I find a 5 incher for around 100$

Attached: ABF497D4-0E3A-4532-BF8D-82F5FBEBCAC0.jpg (4032x3024, 2.38M)

That is a possibility I failed to consider. I retract my statement. I still like the beavertail aesthetic if not overdone.

I've got a Springfield 1911 9mm loaded. It is really fun. I was shooting 8" steel at 100yds with about 50% hit rate. Thing is a blast.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with male escort services

bumping my question

stainless/matte finish or no

Attached: ruger 1911.jpg (4032x3024, 1.87M)

yeah, I want a commander and compact at some point but I should have a government sized 1911 first

Attached: colt defender 1911.jpg (816x612, 208K)

>Commander ring hammer + standard grip safety

Attached: WhenTheCosmolineKicksIn.png (289x282, 86K)

I'm not a fan personally, but if you like it then you should go for it anyway. Rugers like your pic are stainless by default, are well-made, and a nice price to boot.
It's probably more durable in the sense that it doesn't wear as obviously as bluing or parkerizing. It can still rust with enough neglect, and it'll still scratch, but the scratches are usually only caught by the sun or close inspection.

Love my Springfield RO in .45 AARP.

Also, anyone have any experience with the Ruger SR1911 in 10mm? I need some "best millimeter" in my life.

Anyone here have experience with Metro Arms?
Last I heard Filipino 1911s are pretty good for the money, and they don't seem to be tied to Armscor like all the other Filipino 1911s.
They offer blued finishes, which seem non-existent around the price range or even a few hundred higher.

Attached: ac2 1911.jpg (600x453, 156K)

Ruger uses a satined stainless now, not as bright (or gaudy) and its really fucking tough. I scratched my buddy’s 686 on the rivet on my jeans, have yet to be able to scratch my sr1911 and I’m a fucking klutz.
