Tanks with multiple barrels

Yo so i just thought randomly that a tank with multiple barrels would be cool, and i mean like 3 or 4 barrels, not 2 nor 1. is this possible Jow Forums?

Is it possible? Yes.
Is it useful? Fuck no.

could a rotary 6 barrel canon be useful?

No

30mm AA? Sure why not.

why?

more like 6x120mm smoothbore AT canon

In short: No.
In long: Nooooooooooooooooooooooo.

because its not like you get 2 88mm barrels on the same chassis in the same turret, you would have to downgrade the size of the gun or upgrade your turret and tank

Because it will be a bigger target if you try to keep large calibre cannons.
Multi-gun turret has to be bigger due to recoil and loading mechanisms (for each weapon) which would need a bigger tank to carry it.
Multi-turret (single gun per turret) tanks would be larger still, since each turret would need its own traversing mechanism and armour, as well as the internal components of the weapon carried.

Because you either penetrate the armor of your target and kill it, or you don't. There's a bit more nuance than that, but it's generally pretty binary, and a single larger gun will always be better at doing that than two smaller ones.

ITT OP is a faggot

This thread again...

See last thread on this subject.

The guns we put on tanks are already near the limit of what the tank can actually hold. To two hold two of the same gun would require twice as much tank. To hold two guns in the same tank, you need to make them half as big. Two guns that are half as big is not as useful as one gun that is twice as big as each.

Let's also acknowledge one other thing: The only reason anyone has ever explored this idea to begin with is to increase the accuracy of the tank; two shots have a greater hit probability than one. However, the increase is very small and not worth the hassle of all the engineering limitations I just described.

The barrel will rotate, only one firing mechanism, not 6, Like a huge revolver if you will, but fed automatically, like a mini gun.

Maybe if it were armed with direct energy weapons. A couple big fuck-off lasers that require a bit of time to charge so you mount two for greater rate of fire.

And for what reason would you be doing this?

This doesn't change the fact that you have to make the guns smaller to make them fit on the same tank. In fact, you're simply compounding the problem by making it have six barrels as opposed to two.

You can't even mount the 30mm GAU-8 inside the space that a tank has available, and that weapon is completely useless in a ground combat role. How are you going to fit a gun that's actually big enough to be useful? And carry the ammo to feed it? You don't seem to realize that you are describing a weapon which is much, much larger than the ones tanks already carry.
