the green thing in the shell is the projectile. which has a small diameter compared to the barrel. all that space is where the accelerators would be housed. the energy needed for it is contained in the cartridge of the projectile.

pic related. the rifle fires 9x57 round by default, but if you try extra hard, you can fit 3 9x19 magazines in it. That way, semi-auto is impossible, but who gives a shit? you have a 90-round capacity,.and amount of bullet per pew is increased by 200% since you have no choice but to fire at least 3 rounds at a time
