Bought a tec-9 for 150 at a pawn. The last owner didn't take care of it and there rust on the barrel shroud and burn marks all over the receiver. Any suggestions on how to remove the rust or burns without removing any more of the finish?
You could remove the rust by throwing the entire thing in the trash, where it rightfully belongs.

Look around and see if you can find a new upper receiver assembly to replace the rusted one. They pop up from time to time on GB and are usually only $200 or less.

150 isn’t bad, but you basically bought a curio piece dude. Anyway, just use a silicone cloth. If it’s too much, use some copper brushes with oil.

disassemble the firearm, throw it in a Tupperware box, fill it up to brim with reg coke. let it sit overnight, brush and clean everything with a NYLON brush, rub some atf or mobile 1 on the brush then brush away. afterwards, throw it in the tupperware again, this time use vinegar and let it sit for couple days. Now clean it with a nylon brush and atf oil again. for the bolt and barrel you can use some copper brushes JUST BE GENTLE. Thefe you go, no more rush. i would re blue the finish and buff with steele wool then finally wipe and oil with clp again. worst comes to worst a gun smith will charge you 100 balls to do this for you...

As it is a $150 piece of shit beater gun that was designed for upwardly mobile young urban gentlemen of color, back when it was new, I don't see why you would take any more care in derusting and cleaning it than you would, say, a barbecue grill.
wire brush that shit with some oil, wipe it off, and hit it with some black spray paint or whatever.
That's actually a really good deal. People collect these things nowadays so the resale price is pretty high.
Mostly people trying to round out their saturday night special collections or edgelords trying to troll anti-gunners. It's not good as a gun but for $150 I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
Make a bath of 1 part molasses to 10 parts water in a container large enough to fully submerge the rusty parts. Let it sit for a month in your garage so that the fermenting smell won't get to you. The bacteria involved in the fermenting process eat the rust away and create an anoxic environment preventing more from forming. Heavily oil the components after cleaning them from their bath until they can be refinished to prevent re-rusting. youtu.be/tn_uc8G8NNM >designed for nogs >not knowing George Kelgren designed it to be a cyberpunk Gustav m45
>There is rust on the barrel I didn't check for after spending 150 good boy points on it
You deserve this, Now cut it in half and throw it away so you don't get blamed for a murder you didn't commit.

Don't be a faggot, just because its got a bad rap doesnt mean its worth destroying. These guns still have a great history in american media and in militarily
