Thinking about buying and converting a .223 VEPR, is a 20” barrel too long for HD/general use? I want the extra velocity but not sure how much of a maneuverability loss there is

Shooting down a long hallway? Doesn't matter. Cutting the pie/moving quickly into rooms? Less length is an advantage but isn't strictly necessary especially if you took the time to train with it. Knowing where the best places to position yourself are ahead of time matters much more than barrel length.
I would personally rather the shorter barrel if I only suspected to use it inside a house but that's just my opinion, man.

HD would only be a secondary concern, but still important to me since I don’t currently have a semi auto rifle. Primary use would be camping/hog hunting rifle

Then I'd go with with the 20in and train around the slight disadvantage. Unless your domicile is unusually small (mine is) it shouldn't be an issue once you get used to it.

Some bolts are interchangeable between countries of origin, i think an user was using a polish bolt on a romy rifle last month, but definitely not all.

Theyre still headspaced to the barrel when the rifle is built.
You cant just take any polish bolt and but it in any polish rifle. It may work if they happen to be close enough but it could equally KB your gun if theyre not close enough.

I'm buying an old wasr 10/63 underfolder soon, where is the best place to look for a set of older wooden hand guards for it? (particularly dong grips) I'm new to AK's so I'm not really sure of what sites to check out. Also interested in picking up a bakelite mag.

Hey, gents. Having odd issue. Have SLR-104. Shooting. Gone through about 300 rounds. Last round in a mag. Bolt does not close all the way. Look at bullet. Rim seems like it was slightly damaged (was not like that when loading). Like a small part of the rim was cut off and pressed down. Throw bullet away.

Take SLR out to shoot a few days later. Go through another 300 rounds. Get to last round in different mag. Same issue. Bolt doesn’t close. Round looks damaged on rim. Try to recreate the issue. Can’t.

What’s happening here? Happened in different mags with different ammo types (Barnaul and GT). So it must be the gun. Anyone know what this is? Thanks in advance.

I don't like to clamp things onto my barrel, so I'd go with the Polish wood furniture. Although I don't rely like the look of them, I got the magpul MOE handguard set so I could have a light on my AK. But you do your own thing.
