The SCAR is not a good looking gun. The bizarre mashup of 5 shades of tan makes it even worse. I'm sure there's a very tactical reason why the upper, lower, grip, stock, and magazine are all different colors though.

I love funny colored guns, particularly mismatched earth tones like on the scar. Only thing, they show carbon like a mofo so you have to really clean them if you don't want that dirty look.

They switched the slides between an FNS compact and the "509" with a million rounds of testing.

The slides fit each other perfectly, the the compact on the 509 frame looked like one of those honor guard brand guns.

They both seemed to dry fire, rack and lock up just fine.

I first suspected it when I noticed the recoil spring was recessed on the 509 which as a longer slide. FN was acting like it was a feature but I think it's just the same recoil spring as the FNS-9c so they had to recess it.

Well, the slides are interchangeable and many of the parts are indistinguishable. It's a recycled gun masquerading as a whole new thing. It's dishonest and I believe they're lying by way of a false implication that the million rounds of testing was all on the 509.

There's nothing wrong with either gun themselves. I owned a 509 and it was actually a pretty nice feeling grip with a decent trigger. There's nothing wrong recycling parts either but how the company markets it, same as how they handle their warranties, is bullshit. The FNS-9c actually had language in the owners manual that you had to send it in for preventative maintenance or else you'd void the warranty.

Did FN call this the FNS gen2? No they did not and if Glock came out with a new gen and tried to play it off as a whole new model, I'd call them out on it too. Even the gen5 has less in common with gen4 than the 509 has with the FNS-9c and yet Glock isn't parading it around as a whole new thing. They just call it a gen5 and keep going.
