If ammo wasn't so rare and pricey, would the M1 carbine be the perfect american alternative to the SKS?
If ammo wasn't so rare and pricey, would the M1 carbine be the perfect american alternative to the SKS?
Can't penetrate blue jeans.
No. The SKS has a much longer effective range with irons, higher muzzle vel, higher muzzle energy, and is plain better suited for an innawoods scenario where you might need to shoot deer, elk, bears, and people.
No, the carbines have never been reliable, even the issued ones. SKS is reliable, and wont have problems feeding like every other carbine Iv shot
Is ammo actually rare now?
Did we finally shoot up all that was made in WWII?
The ammo is neither rare nor pricey, the carbines themselves are
I've never had a problem finding ammo for the M1 Carbine. My local sporting goods store sells it and it's decently priced
Ive got a 42 carbine, havent had any feeding issues. Good mags are a must
The mags are a flaw in the design, as well as the op-rod.
And ill give you that, but to say all carbines across the board are unreliable is false.
Ive heard horrible things about new production (repro) carbines though. Dont feed, sights falling off, etc. So if youre gonna buy a carbine buy an original.
The appeal of the SKS was a decent gun you could take out and beat up and not get too concerned about, because they were cheap.
You can now get an AR for less than even cheap SKS's, which means you're lugging around a bunch of extra weight for nothing,
What site is this?
Sweaty Benis Lair
Looks like classic firearms they are over priced on fucking Every thing that's c&r or surplus
Mini 14 is already the American alternative to the SKS.
Hahahahahaha
Both are great guns, but not really in the same league.
Mini-14 or Mini-30 would be the 'Merican equivalent of an SKS.
M1Carbine is kinda in it's own little niche, which is fine.
M14 is a step higher than the SKS and would be on tier with something like an SVT.
Of course, this is all based on aesthetics. There are plenty of other firearms that are more closely related to the items listed, but don't have that sweet modern firearm and wood stock combo.
>Ammo is rare and pricey
Aaaaaannnd op knows nothing
I didn't realize the SKS was known for being stupid expensive and I've never heard of people having to send their rifle back to the manufacturer in Russia or China to replace a firing pin.
Alternative? No. Fun rifle to have? Hell yeah.
AR-15
It's also substantially heavier and stuck with a box mag. What you and OP don't seem to know is that the M1 carbine already did all of that. It was the AR of its day once surplus hit the US. They were everywhere and the ammo was cheap as shit
Garand for sure. Mine from the CMP was $730 shipped to my door.
When the mini came out, Bill himself called it the world's most expensive plinker. I love minis, but they were never as cheap as the Sks
The keyword in all of that is "was".
Assuming both are equally reliable/available/priced
sks:
+round is more powerful - can even be used for hunting
+/-barrier penetration
+/-integral magazine+clips
m1:
+lighter
+lower recoil
+better capacity
+/-detachable mags
>If ammo wasn't so rare
The only thing rare is OP not sucking dicks.
>rare and pricey
it’s neither. comparing steel to brass is apples to oranges
Ammo is neither rare or pricey. For christs sake, tula makes it even. As for reliability. For some reason I find my 43 standard product likes steel case more than anything else. In terms of cycling reliably.
Rare and pricey ammo?
I order boxes online cheaply
Im actually on this very problem right now
Im on the fence about a new innawoods gun:
M1 carbine
or an AUG
Price isnt a problem, its only just which would be better suited. I already have a post QC problems WASR ive been using as my innwoods ina camping but something more compact and lighter is on my mind
which is better option here?
Love this gun, great history, fun as shit, ammo for it could be better but since they're making repros more ammo needs to be made. The paratrooper version is awesome too, it would also be cool if someone would A-Team this rifle like they do with Mini 14s.
If you're in the lower 48, go with the carbine. Handier, lighter etc. Just make sure it's not a repro unless it's a Fulton armory one.
