I don't have the chart but literally anything in .270, .308, or .30-06 will work.
Cheap:
Savage Axis
Mossberg Patriot
Tikka T3
Mid:
Ruger M77 Hawkeye
Used pre '07 Remington 700
Used Winchester model 70
Expensive:
Sako 85
Weatherby Mark V

good luck.

get a cheap 30-06, you won't regret it

.243
hundreds killed by myself. 86- grain boat tails

.45 auto the quintessential handgun cartridge for deer as well as dindus.

>no 30.30 levergat

Kys

Can someone post that deer cock chart?

>Not mentioning Ruger American.

Get a new Winchester Model 70. I love them.

This. 3030 is practically the traditional durr cartridge. I've got a marlin that I just love.

deer, you say?

>using 7.62x39 fudd edition for hunting

kys. might as well use 9mm

I hunt with a Ruger American 308. Picked up new with Vertex scope for less than $400

Jow Forums meme lore at its finest. I've hunted with 30-30 and 7.62x39.there is a huge difference when actually Hunting.

Fuddtop is superior to Spitzer at the shit effective range of both cartridges.

Sako owns Tikka, and puts their Sako barrels onto Tikka rifles. Tikka value is very hard to beat.

this?

The what?

You mean durr?

Why did they stick 45-70 over on the end on it's own in a redundant Black Bears category?

bingo you got it

That list is stupid and pointless. You could take deer with a god damn nugget if you wanted.

I will admit 30 30 does have one use, and that is for bunching through brush. It does an excellent job staying relatively accurate through debris.

Other than that it is an awful hunting cartridge, at least go with a 308. Fudds are the worst, they use this bullshit and then don't even bother tracking down the wounded animal.

Use a humane cartridge

>You could take deer with a god damn nugget if you wanted.
Pretty fuckin' Jow Forums right there.

30-30 in the lungs is MORE than capable of humanely and quickly killing a deer. Sounds like you can't shoot.

I think it's for when the black bear has been smoking crack.

Attached: IWG6Rqt[1].jpg (640x480, 37K)

.308 is a good all-around caliber. Every deer i've shot with a .308 has dropped on the spot. If you get relatively good shot placement it will die almost instantly. My dad killed the biggest deer i've ever seen with a .308 and it died on the spot as well.

Desu, a hard cast 30-30 will give full pass thru onna elk from neck to tail. It's fine for durr, especially with some LeverEvolution ammo or a nice cast Ranch Dog.
-t. 336 hunter

>dat 99
>too beautiful for this world
Y won't Savage bring them back?

Yup. I've had cloverleaf groups at 50 yards with a 336R, more than capable of dropping bambi.

could i use a 64 gr soft point 223 to kill white tail deer?

That chart is fucked. As a Canadian hunter where we get big fucking bear/moose and deer you do not need fucking huge caliber rounds to take them down. The chart shows 300 win mag for moose? That’s retarded I’ve personally taken a moose with v-max 7.62x39 at about 70 yards.

Yes but shot placement is far more important.

I think that chart assumes for a garbage tier shooter who is going to be more likely to wound and rely on ~100m of exsanguination than a better kill shot.

That .22 WMR is not to scale (possibly not even the right cartridge image).

Also, I was under the impression that .30-06 is effective on all North American game.

>223 4 deer
Yup. Hell, durr has been killed by the thousands with 22lr.
My grandpa grew up in the depression and literally shot shit for the family to survive, and couldn't afford to not make every 22WCF cartridge he could find kill a deer. He later moved onto a 218 Bee up till the 222 RemMag Model 700 was introduced. The 222 RemMag is damn near identical to a 223Rem. I kid you not, his opinion was that the 222 was just too much gun for a deer.
Take that for what it's worth.
My opinion is to get a good bonded core or solid copper controlled expansion bullet, load it hot, and remember the golden rule:
There is no replacement for shot placement.
If you can't hit a 2" kill zone at your hunting ranges, practice more. There is no reason to not be that accurate in this day and age.
I personally use a 16" or 20" AR with 70gr Barnes TSX loaded with Ram TAC for hunting with great results. Barnes also has VorTx factory loaded 70gr 5.56Nato pressure loads that are great.
An added bonus: These are what the fabled "70gr Optimized" Brown Tip rounds are that were developed for SOCOM. They are a fine "problem solver" bullet for anything bumping in the night or for use in SBR's.

T. Paul Harrell

A .223 will blow the animal to pieces.

I think recommended and possible are confused a lot in this thread. It is POSSIBLE to kill a deer with a .22lr. Is it recommended? fuck no. It is possible to kill moose with rounds below 300 win mag. Is it advisable? no.

>That .22 WMR is not to scale (possibly not even the right cartridge image).
Its neither. Now that I look at it, neither is the 7 mm mag. Or the 300 Mag. Heck, half them don't look to scale.

>I was under the impression that .30-06 is effective on all North American game.
It is.

>not using .45-70 to shoot deer like dirty injuns

I'm totally not posting that because my retarded state doesn't allow me to use bottle necked cartridges, and try to put myself on a high ground. Then again, this thing is pretty accurate, and hasn't let me down. I do feel bad about dragging it into the field every season though, she just turned 126 this year.

>no Savage Axis

Would you the deer girl, Jow Forums?
The ENTIRE deer girl?

Would you not?

why isnt the henry golden boy on there? once the bullet enters the brain it bounces around becoming the most deadly round known to man kind.

Is there any question about it? She's cute, athletic, a total tease, and can take a bit of pain.

>open fracture
>a bit of pain

But yes. Yes I would.

I don't understand why people think deer are difficult to kill, or kill humanely. Any caliber that will kill a man will kill a deer. Want to be humane? Half the distance.

People saying that a .357/.223/.30-30 or other caliber won't waste a deer are asinine, they've been legally and ethically killed with less, you just have to be able to do your part.

>Black bears require much larger calibers than Grizzlies.

Whoever made this chart was retarded.

>.308 is not effective on Moose or bears.

Uhuh.

To get a clean kill, you either have to fracture it's spine (and ruin good meat), shoot it in the heart (not going to happen consistently), or get a sucking chest wound. A pistol caliber won't give you a sucking chest wound.

You are larger game than a deer. Do I have to shoot you in the lungs to show you that you're wrong?

Deer run, jump, and weave through brush when you shoot them, they also don't have much of a brain, so if they don't pass out immediately, they will run after being shot, unlike a human being who you can shoot more than twice, and even then Jamal will sometimes nab your wallet and run back to his crack den to remove the 9mm in his body. A deer will start running the moment they hear your first shot. You have to be able to kill in one or 2 shots.

saved

classy

She also comes with handle bars...just saying..

Most people hunting deer just use sabot or slug in a 12 gauge. Don't over think this, in my opinion shotguns are the go-to weapon for hunting (though it may require a barrel change, choke change, or different shells).

This chart is stupid. I use 5.56 62gr SPs just fine on whitetails.

.257 Roberts master race. The Hornady +p loads will fuck up anything with legs in the US. I just wish it wasn't 2 dollars a shot in East Texas.

>not a .44 Magnum levergun

pleb

Reload? A basic reloading set up is like $150.

> tfw live in Iowa
> tfw only straight walled cartridges are allowed to hunt, exception being coyote and hog hunting
> tfw no 357 rifle that is affordable (inb4 henry)

Feels bad man

what do you consider affordable?
my LGS had a ruger m77 .357 for like $600.
can you hunt with pistols? get a thompson contender for like $400.
Get a hipoint carbine in 10mm thats really close to 357

>dur hunting with a hipoint 10mm carbine
fuds on suicide watch.

See, there's black bears, and then there's "black bears". *wink*

I use a nugget pretty much exclusively for big game, S&B makes a 180 grain soft nose that will drop damn near anything. Only complaint is on smaller deer it kinda makes a mess.

Surplus military rounds are strangely effective on Partridge and don't really waste much meat, they just zip through them.

So is there a handgun version of this? I feel like doing something stupid.

>The chart shows 300 win mag for moose? That’s retarded I’ve personally taken a moose with v-max 7.62x39 at about 70 yards.

Caliber creep for big game is fucking real, and I'm ashamed to admit I fell for it initially. I took pick related with a .338 winmag at about 100 yards. I never recovered the bullet, odds are it's embedded in one of the trees. Poor bastard's organs were turbofucked, even though I had to shoot it through the brisket.

I use .308 for just about everything now.

Rossi 92?

>inb4 bruhzil gun

That's basically equivalent to hunting with a .300 BLK, though with worse external ballistics.

Yeah I'm gonna get a nicer reloading press where I can do several at once. I have a lot of guns in hard to find (for my area) calibers, also I need to make .300 blackout out of all the 5.56 shells I have.

> hi point in 10mm

...I might actually look into this. That sounds cool as balls.

>antlers
>deer girl
I hate to be the bearer of bad news.

>pistol caliber no good for Deer
opinion discarded, pic related
Fuck, Even a bonded +p+ 9mm fromma little carbine can take a deer at 50yds, and 90% of the shots I ever get inna woods aren't much more than that.

I wouldn't trust less than a .577 Tyrannosaurus for squirrel sized game. you're going to have to be willing to move up to artillery for deer and such. Forget about hunting bears unless you have friends in high places that can get you nuclear warheads.

>bad news

>No 35 Whelen
>No 35 Remington
>No 7mm-08

Keep an eye peeled for Rossi lever guns. They are fine.
They sometimes come up as Blems from Kentucky Gun Company for under $300

many states dont allow rifles for bambi
check your local laws

Add older Tikkas to the list and it's good.

Fuggg
I didn't realize how severely under-gunned I've been this whole time with just a puny 45-70!!!

I know a guy in Africa who hunts elephant with assault weapons... Cuts em right in half

Wat

IA?

Moved to IA from NJ, used straight wall law as excuse to get .44 carbine to match .44 handgun

>be me
>live in Minnesota
>best state
>we had this one deer that had a broken leg
>right leg bent completely to the side at the knee
>she still went along with her herd despite this
>dad calls her Nancy (Nancy Kerrigan)
>she comes into the yard all the time
>one day sneak close enough to the group that I can hear her leg clicking
>year or two later here she died somewhere in out woods
>no sign of car damage or bullet wounds
>pretty sure she was just old
God speed you magnificent bastard

Ok...
>Punches through debris with accuracy
Oh... where is your tard wrangler?

Fuck the ranch dog, get the noe 311195fn (clone of the rcbs 180 fn)

Desu my Ranch Dogfu is superior to your shit tier RCBS boolitfu

By what metric?

This always gets me weirdly hard

Attached: df0ce33233b52045f5448befe955c4f0--stop-it-pin-it[1].jpg (324x289, 19K)

By the needing to be beagled for a microgroove barrel metric

My boolit drops at .311, shoots great in my dads 336. Great in my 94, and great in my wifes 30-06, it has a higher weight, sd, and bc, at the cost of a marginally smaller meplat, go read some of frank marshalls work on heavy cast in the 3030.

7.62x39 has more energy than 5.56. Retarded to compare either to 9mm although within appropriate ranges and with appropriate loadings all three can humanely harvest game

Dammit this made me fap to beast porn

I hate you guys.

I hunt deer with 3 inch 00 buck

Springfield trapdoor model 1884, at least thats what I think you wanna know.
