What Happened to All the Gen 1 and 2 Glocks?

It seems as though both gen 1 and gen 2 glocks have become extremely scarce in the last 3 years or so, not just in police trade-ins either. Is longevity to blame?

people want to keep em. gen2s are still available but gen1s have been collectors items for almost a decade now. as for posurp all gen 2s were surplused out decades ago

They said that about 1911s once too.

1911s shoot better, have much more historical significance, actually look good, and aren't made out of a material that goes to shit after a few decades. I like Glocks but they weren't made to be heirlooms. If you think they look good you need your head examined.

I don't particularly like Glocks either, but you should at least explain your chemical reasoning of why that is.
In a world where the degradation of chemically inert polymers in litter is a multi-million dollar industry, I sincerely doubt a polymer that is intentionally designed to withstand the elements will be useless in an arbitrary "few decades".

they're all over places like MA where you can't buy gen 3 and newer at a dealer.

They have all exploded

Got my gen 2 a few months ago, it was a police trade in, as soon as I saw it I bought one. They were all sold out in a matter of hours.

>he believes that zytel polyamides dont degrade with UV exposure.

The absolute fucking state of this board. Its like basic bitch science is far beyond your grasp.

Gay troll is gay

everyone just kept them as a beater gun

Who the fuck stores their glocks out on a rooftop year round you fucking moron

You keep a glock in a safe and it'll last a thousand years

This. I have a cosmetically beat to shit Gen 2 I keep as my glove box gun. The trigger is well...a mushy glock trigger. But if someone breaks in and steals it...meh. I mean I don't just leave it in there but when I'm at work or traveling I toss it in my glove box.

They never made that many gen 1 glocks in the first place and they usually got scrapped after cops beat the shit out of them. Gen 2 people are buying up because glockfags see them as potential collector's items

No it won. All polymer materials lose dimensional integrity over time.

Since polymers used in pistols are absolute top of the line, it will be decades before it degrades, but no polymer pistol will ever be heirloom.

Most glocks will end up beater guns that will be deliberately abused as worthless things until a critical part breaks. Extractor for example. At that point people will simply throw them away or sell off to a dumb nigger kid for 50$ rather than repair them.

Sorry glock faggots, but only well maintained, all-metal guns, will ever be antiques or heirlooms.

>that spacing
find us all the glocks that have aged into uselessness, please.

And all metal oxidizes over time.

He’s being an over the top le ebic troll but he’s right. Polymer will degrade more than metal sooner

Yes over hundreds of years, given the exact right conditions

>exact right conditions
Or just structurally weakening in your safe

>hundreds of years
Possibly or like 30-50 years. It really depends on the polymer. Lots of theories but only time will tell

I'm not being troll at all. Firstly, i said it takes decades. Second, when dimensional changes start to occur, doesn't mean that the gun will instantly fall apart or stop working. But that time will come in your lifetime.

You poorfags simply have to accept that your PT Cruiser of the gun world will be forgotten and crushed in a dump yard. There are no heirloom PT cruisers and geo metros, and there will be no such value with glocks ether.

You've had your fun at the range based on james yeagers recommendation on what gun to buy, but that's it. You've had your 500 dollars worth. The ride ends, your peace of plastic has no historical significance other that the very concept of using polymer for a gun.

What is cleaning and oiling? Pic related faggot, built by Germans in 1597. Cant wait to see a 400 year old working Glock. Maybe you can convert your irrelevant toy to shoot airsoft BB's when it wont shoot 9mm anymore. Ps, its not reddit spacing. Its voat.co nationalist socialist master race spacing.

High grade gun polymers going to shit, particularly in a few decades, is a meme. Most of the *cheapest* plastics will still be around in a thousand years in a relatively intact state, but gun polymers were built to last, many millenia will pass. I guarantee when they're digging glocks out of the ruins of our cities in a thousand years. The steel will be all locked up and rusted away, but when they remove the dirt from the polymer portion, it will be virtually factory mint. Sure, the polymers are less resistent to extreme heat or being crushed (with thousands of pounds of pressure). But for any normal wear and tear of regular gun use and cleaning, they should remain in nearly a perfect state.

>1911 shoot better
No. Glocks are the reliability king, but you may have a point if you specifically meant the trigger.
>1911 looks better
well, no shit, Glocks are made to be a tool with fantastic ergonomics, it's far from the most stylish gun.

Truth bombs?... you posted some weird anecdotes and opinions.
Someone mentioned UV degredation which applies to some polymers. Pistol frame materials are Nylon-6 has excellent resistance to UV due to stabilizer (2-3% carbon black) which virtually eliminates UV degradation.

I'm not a glock fanboy just please realize everything you said was opinion based or wrong...

UV is not the only factor when it comes to polymers holding dimensions over time. 20 years from now not a single GEN2 will be available for sale due to nobody actually assigning any historic value to them and ether destroying them, or keeping them in a truck as a "defensive weapon worth 50$". Its just a pistol. Its not "the" pistol.

Who cares about 'historic value', the gun works. It's not a talking point it's a fucking tool. 20 years from now it'll be the gen 7 and people will be talking about that.
>UV is not the only factor when it comes to polymers holding dimensions over time.
But it's the one that was in question. Metal frames are also subject to chemicals elements and accidents.

What experience do you have with pistols; do you own or use any? Are you just going off appearance? Where does this viscous disposition come from.

you know the sell alloy frames for glocks, right?

The Glock 17 is more historically significant than the 1911, and I say that as a JMB fanboy with three 1911's.

i double space paragraphs because its easier to read and edit on a phone, as well as keep my rambling bullshit more succinct

Ah a phone poster
>it's easier to read
Not everyone has the cognitive abilities of a child user.

>All polymer materials lose dimensional integrity over time.
Sure and environmental variables matter when gauging the timeframe of said degradation.

>it will be decades before it degrades
>decades
Like the previous poster said, decades of sitting on a roof. A polymer framed firearm sitting in a controlled environment will easily outlast a human lifespan with a much smaller portion of the firearm being disposed to oxidation degradation.

It's been fun to watch the deadline for when Glock frames will spontaneously disintegrate slowly get pushed farther and farther up as the decades tick by. Originally they wouldn't last a decade, then twenty, then thirty. I'll be playing shuffleboard in a retirement home and someone will be telling me to sell my Glock because those shitty plastic guns only last 60-70 years.

OP only asked what happened to them but second poster claimed they are collectors items. Thread became a battle ground of steel pistol master race vs plastic faggot after that.

I own M57 TT and CZ75B. Not special or anything but non faggot tier memelock.

I hate all things plastic, not just guns.

>The Glock 17 is more historically significant than the 1911, and I say that as a JMB fanboy with three 1911's.

No

... so one post saying theyre collectors items spitballed into the main argument against it?
Also wait, who are you to say they're not collectible? The first generation of one of the most popular pistols on the face of the planet?

All the "no collector/historical value" in this thread reminds me of a time when people thought the same way about percussion revolvers -- if they weren't converted to cartridges, they were considered worthless, and often handed to kids as playthings.
If you think they were right, look up what a Colt 1860 with good original finish is worth today.

Nice opinion.

good shit. It's for shooting things and using, not siting in a case and being polished 8hrs a day

He is right though, the Glock is going to be remembered in the annals of history on a higher pedestal than the 1911, simply as a matter of sales. The Glock is vastly more popular globally than the 1911 ever was, Glock pushed it on Hollywood and the American police to gain it widespread recognition that the 1911 never achieved.

You could argue that browning's tilting barrel design was more significant but normalfags don't care about the internal operations.

Why do people act like hk plastic will last longer?

>or just rusting away in your safe
>30-50 years
And yet nylon 66s aren't degrading into dust after 60 years....

Police trade-in Gen 2's all wound up in the construction industry. That's where the old demo phrase "40 knocks 'em down" comes from.

That's how I view it. I rather lose it if some dumb ass breaks into my POS car I am driving til it dies. You know why I do that? Because unless you have a classic car, you drive that bitch until it's dead.

Dumb people buy a new vehicle every few years and wonder why they are broke as fuck despite making over 50k a year.

People put way too much stock in shit that doesn't matter. Glocks are made to shoot and be a workhorse pistol. You want a collector piece that has bragging rights? Go spend thousands on a Korth revolver and barely shoot the thing.

Yes, your opinion does not matter. The 1911 has been dead for years.

The market is not being flooded with 1911s it is being flooded with polymer striker fired guns.

Plenty of commies too

You say that like it's a good thing, faggot.

>another 'no' post with nothing to actually say
I'm not a fanboy of any weapon except maybe marlin 22s but holy shit please explain yourself instead of looking like a child.

nothing better than a car I paid cash for and will last me 20 years.
I still buy/build shit for the collection factor though when it comes to guns

Doesn't take much to start an e-firefight on Jow Forums. Autism and all that.

Also the worst gun on the planet. Only thing glock ever had going of it was light weight. Fuckin hate plastik.

Lying faggot memer.

The only thing your doing is posting bait tier opinions. You're a jackass with nothing to say.

Yep. I do too. Frankly because a car simply gets me to where I'm going and as long as it does so reliably and can save me money on gas, insurance, repairs, etc. all the better.

Guns are my hobby and I have pieces I will barely fire if at all because they're old as hell and I'd rather just have them in the collection. Other guns like the glocks, mossbergs, rugers, etc. get shot more often because they're not collector pieces, they're meant to be shot.

Not that user but he wasn't arguing with you.

Agreed. But I splurged and saved up while driving a shitbox for 5 years so could get a car with all the shit I use/want.
i'm trying my hardest not to start a project car because as fun as it would be that's an even more expensive hobby.

Not every conversation here is an argument...

Attached: 1480100885531.jpg (316x202, 30K)

Glocks are like Honda Civics. Cheap, reliable, customizable but at the end of the day there are other guns that can do better than it. However...for the price you get a really decent pistol.

Nothing flashy, just a pistol that goes bang very reliably.

We weren't arguing....are you dense, retarded or just autistic?

I hear you, I'm doing the same thing right now. I drive a 2001 Saturn SL with 228k miles on her. She's going to die in a few years at the latest. Once that happens I'm scrapping her and buying a used car for a few grand.

It just seemed like you had an aggressive response like an argument with a 'matter of fact' kind of tone.

2008 impreza outback sport. I love it. Not a $2k car but I can trust it for years.

>>>/leddit/

Never said they aren't Honda civic. But that always attract faggots who think its so much more. How much historic value do you think pic related has today. Yeah...same with glawk.

And glock was beaten at their own game by all their competitors as there better guns like that for the price or 100$ more. Guns that don't have awful plastic "combat sights" and the worst trigger on the planet, and an overall faggot toy feel.

They work, but they aren't remarkable. Maybe in 90's due to revolutionary low weight, but it means nothing today. Go away plastik man.

Attached: 1998-Honda-Civic-dragon-fa-nf[1].jpg (1200x715, 369K)

>trusting a Subaru for years
Lmaoing at ur life

I agree. I got mine real cheap because it's a gen2 police trade it. I swapped out the burnt out night sights with fresh ones for 70 bucks. It works just fine. I know what to expect out of a glock. A lot of people do not and think it's the end all be all. Looking at you, Nutnfancy. SHEEP DAWGS!!! DURR

Also...I would drive that dragon wagon for shits and giggles.

>mfw have police trade in gen 1 19 with 1 confirmed nog kill

Found the pussy. I bet you pee sitting down to not offend others around you. Fag.

..... what?... I just explained why I assumed you were arguing in this argument of a thread.
>Maybe in 90's due to revolutionary low weight, but it means nothing today. Go away plastik man.
Homie. It's one of the most popular pistols on the planet. Your opinion means nothing.

You just sound like a faggot. I bet you think eye contact means someone is about to hurt you too. Are you a nigger or something?

>he doesn't drive a dykemobile to hide his powerlevel

They only fuck up when you start screwing with the engine. stock ones get to 250k easy if you maintain it.

That's the board motto. It didn't make it on to the Jow Forums banner last contest but had a solid showing.
example #2, Jow Forums knows less about cars than even /o/

Imagine being this triggered. Maybe stop being so mad and just think about what you want to say before you try to say it.

And this was the most popular song in a contest. youtube.com/watch?v=84LBjXaeKk4
And nigger rap is also extremely popular. So was Britney Spares. And the nigger manlet bruno mars. And just look at who to most popular gun tubers are. Fucking nigger noir.

If you don't see what i'm getting at...its the fact that "most popular" usually means "cheap and works" so plebs with no money, taste or knowledge buy it.
