I wanna buy my first katana, something up to 100 bucks. What should I look for?
Katanas
Are you serious?
Katana buying rules:
>You can only ever buy one Katana, so it can't be a piece of shit. Any more makes you an autistic weeb.
>Never take a photo of yourself with it.
>You should have a genuine reason for owning it, such as a collection of anachronistic weapons.
>It must not be your only combat ready knife/sword. Do you at least have a K-Bar?
If you can't even afford $400 for Cold Steel trash, you aren't ready to buy a Katana.
$100 will get you flea market crap
Cheness makes good shit for less than that apparently
A proper whetstone will cost you more than $100. Most cheap swords come with a shit edge.
hanwei makes some decent budget marial arts katanas for the autists whose only skill is slicing trees
If it can chop a tree it could probably fuck someone up desu. People stab and slice eachother with a lot less

This is now a "teleports behind you" thread.
You're going to find yourself wanting to chop at bamboo with your katana one day. With your cheap piece of weeb trash, you'll chop your katana apart before you'll chop the bamboo.
Just get a $40 katana machete. You'll thank yourself (and me) the first time you get it stuck in a tree or roll the blade on a rock.
Still in the same price range as cold steel. Definitely nothing decent in the sub $100 range.
You may be able to find something dirt cheap on Cult of Athena made from decent steel but it won't come with an edge.
nothing personal kid
anti-personel kid
Get 3
The thing people forget about the katana market is that it's fucking huge. Any other sword design going for around $100 is going to be trash, but the weaboo market is so big that you can actually get some halfway decent swords for way cheaper than any other kind of sword due to supply meeting demand.
Brands like Musashi and Munetoshi can put out some surprisingly decent katanas for $100 that are a step above a katana machete or mall ninja special. They're not quite the same as a more expensive katana, but for a backyard cutter, they'll do fine.
trees dont move senpai, you need your blade to have the teleport enchantment in order to hit a moving target
does this have a feminine benis?
Can you recommend any specific model in that price range?
>katanas

You would do well not to underestimate my power...
*smirks*
You can barely buy a quality fixed/folder for a 100 bucks
How the fuck you expect to afford a quality katana retarded bitch, a 100 katana is going to be some frost cutlery tv chicom shit. Have fun breaking your blade and stabbing yourself in the femoral artery
an emt buddy of mine actually responded to this...
mall ninja neckbeard was slashing 2 liter bottles in his kitchen, bounced blade off counter and into leg, then his mom called 911 cus of all the blood
Munetoshi Jubei or Lion Dog
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE WE ARE
My man!
$100? Costco must pay more than it used to.
Average employee wage at costco is $21/hr. That's a fuckload more than any other retail.
I got the Musashi Bamboo Warrior Katana for 100 dollars. It might be a bit more expensive now since this was a few years ago.
I won't lie, at 100 dollars the sword is obviously mediocre. But it did come quite sharp, with a differentially hardened edge and actual clay-tempered hamon (That was the main selling point, a super low cost tempered katana). It has held up to lots of testing, and I certainly haven't treated it well. The edge does roll on harder targets, since it's only 1060 Steel.
If I am being nitpicky, the scabbard is a bit cheap. But it still fits the sword well, it just tends to leave little bits of sawdust on the sword.
But overall, it's unbeatable for the price. You won't find a better katana, and probably even any sword at all, for such a price.
Make sure and commit sudoku weeb
Good lord, his mom in the mirror
someone post the old guy with his sword. hes in his underwear and in front of a huge celtic style flag/banner standing on a ladder
good advice.
I gotcha senpai
I wish I had context for why he wanted to take this picture.
Dicks, you're all dicks
I just like to think that its inevitable if you're the kind of person who owns a shitty katana, a giant banner, and a ladder
can someone PLEASE shoop this man into pic related?
Every time I look at it I have more questions. Every single thing in that photo is bizarre.
I like to imagine this pic is Russell Crowe's less famous brother at a casting for either The Last Samurai or a live action Samurai Jack movie.
>no fucks given
he's clearly more badass than any of the manlets pictured in this thread
The cheapness of that robe is what gets me
Most arguments on this site today come from being unable to tell if someone is being ironic but just to be safe.
Maybe instead of wasting money on a useless weeb stick and end up looking like one of the losers in this thread, you could make it up to your mother by taking her out to a restaurant since I know you didn't do that on Sunday you fucking salad dodging weeb.
Or maybe you can mind your own god damn business instead of getting anal over what other people acquire for cutlery.
Don't. For that price you're going to get some Chinese junk replica that will break and ricochet it's tip into your face if you try to use it. Save up like $600 and buy a rusted WWII vintage item off of eBay as your starter piece, if you really need a functional grade weapon. Look into higher end stuff later on. You really can't buy a decent edged weapon for under $100 aside from knives and machetes. Keep your money for now and save for better things., Quality over quantity user.
pretty sure it's literally just sheets. Look at the creases,
Oh fuck I'm almost positive those are hotel sheets now that you mention it.
>Wear hotel sheets to pose with your $30 mall katana
>End up with pubic lice
oh fuck, how did I miss that reference?
brb, commiting sudoku...
Anything below$500-600 is going to be utter trash but if you just want to kill some water bottles then the cheap $100 amazon ones will work. Just make sure someone has a photo of the handle off. To make sure it isn't some shitty rat weld tang that will snap off the moment you hit a water melon.
What are some good katanas for around 1k-2k USD? Also why does Jow Forums hate katanas so much? They're easily one of the best melee weapons for unarmored opponents, and actually a good home defense weapon if you have high ceilings/big open house, and can't get a gun.

This was done by an old man using a cheap wall mounted katana. If you have an actual high quality katana, and you're younger, and relatively strong/fast with good skill you could easily kill any intruders very quickly.
Obligatory japanese short sword communist removal video:
There's been a sort of cult around the katana since the 90s if not earlier due to weaboos and nerd fascination with all things Japan. They'd fellate the katana to no end, so people counter shitposted them back super hard.
Of course nowadays there aren't anywhere near as many unironic weaboos anymore (mostly ironic ones who're doing it to b8 people). But people still think the katana are shit just because they were around for those days or grew up seeing all the anti-katana memes and believe them to be genuine.
Reality is that they were fine for time and period they were designed for. They're not going to cut through tanks or anything, but they're not going explode the moment they touch anything remotely harder than flesh.
>What are some good katanas for around 1k-2k USD

Masahiro "Assemble Yourself" kit: Practical, entry-level katana.
Listen to this man
This. Really anything less than a grand is probably gonna be shit steel with a welded tang that'll break off the forst timr you try to cut something substantial. But if you're just a faggot weeb looking for a douchey wall decoration 100 bucks should be fine
>Never take a photo of yourself with it.
>You should have a genuine reason for owning it, such as a collection of anachronistic weapons.
I broke these 2 rules. What is my fine.
>There's been a sort of cult around the katana since the 90s
That's when I was gifted a katana by my mom. I asked her to buy me some blades from the Philippines during the 90's, but she claimed that almost all were confiscated. Ended up with a sweet nihonto though to live out my highlander fantasy.
R8 me please.
This is such a meme. You think that you can't get a good sword for less than 1k? It's absolutely untrue. You can get a good quality katana for 200, and a mediocre quality katana for 120-150. I don't know much about other swords, but I assume it's similar.
At 1k the diminishing returns in quality have already appeared, and the difference between a 500 dollar sword and 1k dollar sword often has more to do with appearance and material quality rather than actual performance (Not that these things aren't worth paying for- they are. But they are both going to handle similarly.)
Holy shit the weeb poorfag in this post. Look up a forged full-tang katana on the googlez bruh you can't even get a shitty cold-rolled steel blade setup for less than $400 stop being butthurt because the wall decoration you got at the fair is shit
I'd suggest the Hi Point C9.
It costs about as much as your shit tier katana, and you look like just as much of a faggot for owning it.
Added bonus of actually being able to use it as home defense.
OP please do a stupid edgy pose with the katana you buy and post it on Jow Forums
Learn how to forge your own special snowflake katana.
If you're gonna weeb it up, might as well go all the way.
I don't live in muttmerica, it's not so simple to acquire a gun here.
So sad. Many such cases.
The answer is simple, time to move.

The ABSOLUTE CHEAPEST battle ready kat is the Musashi Folded Elite
You DO NOT sharpen kats unless you've spent MONTHS OR YEARS learning the technique. They're progressively sharpened without a bevel.
Maybe I'm wrong
>Added bonus of actually being able to use it as home defense.

Katanas are too long and pricey get yoself a wakazashi it seem more practical and easier to use than full length blade, handmadesword company makes a good ones for cheap, got a wakazashi 1080 steel with differential hardening for 260 American
>What should I look for?
More money.
that was such a clean kill, Asanuma died on impact
Jow Forumsing the picture of this with the caption don't let evil take hold or something similar
been thinking about getting one from them. But I left my katana days back in high school. But their carbon steel ones are sooooo cheap right now. 150 bucks gets you a fuck around beater that'll probably cut my leg off.
