I'm not sure how well the Chinese or Russian military would do against US military, but it sure as hell would be fun watching these tiny dicked Chinks and Russians with obsolete tech get slaughtered by crazy Redneck militias that are more armed than all 3 of the nation's militaries.

If the U.S decided to fight defensively, there are 2 oceans and 2 buffer zones on both sides of it's borders to use as defensive barricade against the other major powers.

All of the fighter jets and stuff you see on aircraft carriers are navy planes, not air force. The navy essentially has its own floating airforce.

The thing the world has forgotten about America is we spend as much on the military as the next 13 nations (it was only the next 8 nations under Obama and that amount is always growing). In conventional warfare, the US is an unstoppable juggernaut with the most advanced war technology in the world.

But, we've haven't been met on the battlefield of honorable combat in decades. Our military is mostly used to prop up puppet governments, put down insurrections, and fight guerillas.... unfortunately having the best tech doesn't really ensure victory against guerillas.

But against Russia/China, our high military tech would ensure victory, assuming it is a conventional war actually fought on battlefields. If the war ever came to US soil, the US would be far better prepared to defend our home soil than anywhere on earth with far more private gun ownership. They'd literally have to conquer the US from door to door.

Somehow I don't think overweight rednecks carrying two rifles, three handguns and a shotgun each is much of a militiary power

Wikipedia gives about 1700 aircraft of the US navy, half of which are for naval purposes like anti sub and AWACS. And the combat planes they have are carrier variants with smaller payloads than their land counterparts. They are grossly outnumbered by the Russian and Chinese Air forces.

Either way, a mainland invasion of the US is impossible. We learned this in Vietnam, people don't like losing their homes and families to other people meddling in their business. Invading the US wouldn't work, the prevalence of weapons is far too dispersed, not even the UK could invade the US in the past. We're the dominant superpower of the world. We would have a private militia power that octupled overnight, the national guard would see a mass surplus of volunteers, the military would get instant increased funding, and Canada would have an instant stake in the war since they're between Alaska and the continental US.

I'd give both Russia and China a small chance of annexing Alaska for less than a year with their combined power.

If not for China stringing Best Korea along for decades it would have happened already. South Korea would have dropped in with helicopters full of food & supplies during one of NK's many famines and kicked whichever Kim Jung was there at the time out. The unification of Korea would be a simple paragraph in history books by now. So is there a chance? The moment China can't influence NK anymore it's going to happen. The ammount of ambushes, snipers, boobytraps, IEDs, and other fun surprises would make the things the Vietcong did look like child's play. Then you get to deal with your own weapons turning back on you as the insurgents gather more and more material and the Gov't starts dropping in Green Berets to train the locals to be even scarier. At any rate the biggest problem with the "we wirr bury dem" argument is that China's mechanization is still worfully inadequate. For a country the size of china to still rely on easily interdicted methods of transporting men and materials to where they need to go, their manpower would count for alot less. At the very least, their industry would suffer if they suddenly found it necessary to bare the brunt of logistics

A mainland invasion of the US is basically impossible in the current situation, but if it were to happen under Chinese or Russian leadership, you have to appreciate how little respect they have for ROE and international law. If an ambush were to go down, the nearest town would get toasted, with the local populace suffering from some gnarly reprisal action. Plus the US population on the whole is soft (there isn't a ready pool of impressionable, fanatically driven young men, like the ME), unaccustomed to deprivation, and has no real tradition of guerilla warfare.

There is a very large dividing line in the US between rural and urban populaces in the US like in any country. Since 1920 more people have been living in major metropolitan areas but there is still a massive chunk of people in rural areas you have to deal with who are more tempered to going without.

The same reason we invest so heavily in ours, in case of emergency there is a network in place to rebuild infrastructure and to maintain infrastructure that is government operated like dams. That and the Chinese have been building up their infrastructure efforts for decades now to compete in the global economy.
