Okay Jow Forums, this is an interesting question I thought of, if you took WP instead, you can use it for clearing buildings and such AND use it as a smokescreen if you are not stupid and drop it on yourself.. If you use "regular" burning smoke grenades, in theory, you could pop smoke on yourself and asphyxiate yourself. (no idea why you would do that). Lay it into me for my lack of operator knowledge.

White phosphorus burns on contact with air, you can't pop smoke and run through it, or lay in it for cover. You cant go into a room or place you used it till it fully clears or torch your lungs and skin.
Its a war crime to use it on people as its chemical warfare.
If a helicopter is touching down on your smoke it will spread the shit around, if you need to pass through the smoke or the wind shifts your hosed. WP is not a good smoke bomb. The smoke is an ancillary effect for the most part.

Oh, alright. But I mean if you are in a sandland sorta environment, houses are made of brick, concrete, dirt, etc so that may negate the WP's incendiary effects to an extent. And you can use WP for offensive purposes as well. The question pretty much is, "Is the dual purpose nature of WP worth the possible dangerous effects if you do not use it properly?".

WP 'smoke' is phosphorus pentoxide particles reacting with moisture in the air to produce phosphoric acid rain = not good to breathe in during the assault.
The burning WP heat also causes the smoke to pillar upwards. That's why it's good for marking targets for airstrikes, coloured particle smokes (M18 etc) will hang lower and give better cover in and around obstacles and cover.
