Is this good first pistol? I only have bolt action rifles but am going to buy my first pistol soon. Would the M9 be a good option?
Berretta M9

Yes. It's an excellent combat handgun. Reliable, accurate and easy to shoot. I own an M9A1. It's also sexy as hell.
Yes. Get the M9A3 if you can afford it.
doesnt get any better
It's really not for concealed carry.
92a1 for the rail. Also get night sights. I personally went for a glock 19 as my first
Whats the difference between the M9 and 92FS?
Bröthers
Get a 92G. Exact same design except it has just a decocker, not a safety/decocker. A safety on a DA/SA pistol is retarded.
wait for this
>It's an excellent combat handgun. Reliable, accurate and easy to shoot
Said as clean as simple as the m9 is.
If you have no plans on cc'ing it then suggestions of alternatives are getting into subjective opinion territory. There are Sigs, Glocks, HKs of similar quality but preference between those and the Beretta are down to how much you like safety placement, trigger, etc.
If you want a fullsizedish handgun you can cc consider a g19, but even then you will like having the Beretta around it is as good as a fullsize handgun gets.
It's over hyped, but it isn't a bad choice. There are better choices depending on your budget and preferences.
It's one of the best pistols ever made IMO
Basically one has military markings, and the other doesn't
I'm buying one on Tuesday new for $625. It sucks because my LGS is closed on my 21st.
Try one out at a range
if you don't like the safety, try out a pt92
it's alright as a range toy. you'll carry it for six months, and then buy something made of plastic
Even if it's the only pistol you ever buy it'll be a good option
>slide mounted safety
You can't get any more retarded than that.
>safety decocks pistol
Wow. You can.
Don’t talk to me or my wife’s son ever again.
The sights are also different
That doesn't look like something designed by John Browning or a Czech.
Top to bottom:
M9s typically have two-dot sights vertically indexed) as opposed to the three-dot (horizontally indexed) typically seen on the 92FS, but I've seen both on both.
Rollmarks are different, less obtrusive.
The dust cover under the recoil spring on the M9 is straight instead of tapered (old 92FSs are straight as well).
The radius cut in the top of the backstrap is less pronounced on the M9 than the 92FS.
The M9 uses Allen head grip screws while the 92FS uses slotted screws.
The M9 is usually sold with 2 matte finish 15-round magazines while the 92FS is usually sold with 2 or 3 glossy finish 17-round magazines.
Are there such things as "four dot" sights? Arranged so that when looking down the sights, there are two dots on either side of the front sight's single dot, as well as one below?
Hi again.
Still looking for a holster for mine that works with the light. Don't want the burrito, don't want to make my own. Only one I've been able to find is the Bianchi Reveal 140.
Not from the factory, but the rear sight is the same on all 92s but with different recesses painted. There's nothing stopping you from painting the rest.
What's the red led for?
Yes its a great pistol.
Anyone who spergs out over it is a no guns autistic faggot.
Ive put thousands of rounds through them, and the only bad thing I can say is once you put 10,000 rounds through them they lose accuracy, but then again so will any gun.
It was my first handgun, and it spoiled me.
every other handgun feels like shit and gritty compared to the beretta.
poorfags
M9 is such a solid choice it's almost to the point of being boring. It'll get you wherever you need to go, just don't expect to conceal it very well.
Ernie Langdon offers a "trigger job in a bag" kit for Berettas now, which ties off one of the only issues factory Berettas can have (crunchy/heavy DA stroke).
As long as your hands aren't small, odds are a 92-series variant will do you pretty well.
92 is GOAT.
I been using it as my IPSC gun for the last year. very little muzzle flip due to the slide design and excellent trigger. DA needs a little practice but it is by far the smoothest double action trigger I have ever used, more so than the p226 or usp expert.
You could do worse. It's large and heavy by modern standards. On the other hand, it's also reliable, feels good if you've got man sized paws, and will be more accurate than you are.
How so? I haven't heard of M9's having reliability issues after 10,000 rounds
Why not me?
It's fine, I prefer Glocks, but honestly it's fine. Just don't buy a used one, the locking blocks break after heavy use, and it's part of what gives the military ones their shit reputation. I hate the placement of the saftey, but you can do far worse in the double/single action semi autos. Also, if you're still learning to shoot handguns, setting the hammer before the first shot isn't a bad idea.
This. I had a 92FS inox that I really liked, but I wanted to CC so I ended up getting a glock 19.
Got one about a year ago and it is by far my favorite handgun to shoot. When I go shooting with other people, they always seem to enjoy it as well.
My first gun was a SIG, but I wish I'd gone M92 first
In black, though.
Shit, beat me to it.
t. guy who knows more than a company that has been making guns for 500 years.
Not /vg/ or /weeb/.
>Those fully railz and grips
If they're just throwing aesthetics out the window, I'll take a glock.
>$1099 msrp
what the fucking fuck
wish I could find a goddamn m9a1 for under 500
The manual safety is because the biggest customer is the military, and military specs call for a manual safety. Because the military knows it has to issue these guns to some borderline retards.
If you’re buying your own personal gun Beretta makes the G model for you. If you ND yourself in the leg with a 13 pound trigger pull, you deserve it.
That thing is sex.
>cares about aesthetics
>buys Glawk
G models are rare and beretta made all kinds of pistols with manual safeties LONG before the 92 ever existed let alone was adopted by the US.
They dont, and thats not what I said.
Ive seen parts break on oldass 80s ones that have tens of thousands of rounds through them, but these were abused by a shitload of muhreens.
I said they have accuracy issues after around 10k rounds through, like just about any other firearm.
Luckily replacement barrels are in massive supply and they are easy to work on.
t. 2111
The biggest customers have always been the military (US and otherwise) and police. Both types of organizations are big on manual safeties in automatic pistols.
Brothers
Vertecs are for s o y b o y s with small hands.
How easy is it to convert a 92FS to a G?
The weight grip and type of action, non tilting barrel have made it a pleasure to shoot for all my beginner friends and make it very accurate. The single action trigger pull is sex, the double action is heavy but buttery smooth.
You can just convert FS models to G now for $55
>Based Beretta
It's not overhyped, they're extremely reliable, the recoil impulse is extremely small, and with some customization they end up very nice. What is somewhat amazing is that you can have the perfect Beretta for around $1200-1300. That is less than a good 1911.
Biggest issue are the sights, they're hard to change if you're lucky enough to have a dovetail since Beretta stakes the front sight for whatever reason
>Glass locking block meme
Can we stop propagating this, the locking blocks have been updated several times and are very durable now.
youtu.be
You can convert to G model now. You basically drive out a pin
The rail ruins the m9's aesthetics
If you want to learn the basics of pistols, then yeah, a DA/SA like the M9 is a great option!
If you want a slightly less fucking heavy brick, but want a good starter DA/SA, I highly recommend the Sig SP2022 9mm. It's affordable and very similar to the 226 in form and function.
Is the military going to surplus their berrettas?
Just remember how long it took them to do that for the 1911s. I doubt it will be worth the wait, user.
>Reliable, accurate and easy to shoot.
...and you won't find a gun with better synthwave aesthetics anywhere.
They're excellent, be they just a bog standard 92FS or a slick and expensive Wilson Combat Brigadier
>wood grips
My negro
I appreciate that they offered in a color that isn't meme tan, but for that price they should include a fucking Brigadier slide.
Would it be cheaper at that price point to just buy a FDE one and get it refinished?
Baratta is bes evuh poorfags btfo by this masterpiece even though I’m a mammas boy join my discord
>17
MecGar makes 18rd flush fit mags for the 92 pistols now, cut for both the regular magazine release as the heel release on the really old models.
Further, a +2 extension just barely protrudes out the grip, so there's also that.

I sold mine, and bought a CZ 75. Best decision I have ever made...
Was switching to a soi based diet also one of your best decisions along with going transgender?
Yes but the M&P 2.0 Compact would be best.
I would argue a S&W 5906
If it fits well in your hands and isn't a military surplus gun then sure. Police surplus should be fine but the military ones are old and abused like a 3 dollar whore.
>M9
>Heavy
Why is soi being associated with CZ?
Because only soiboi hipsters like soizee
The M9 and 92FS are great handguns and I would recommend them as a first. I have an early 1990s 92FS I bought used and I really love it.
The downsides are that the double action trigger pull is quite heavy and the safety gets bumped on a lot if you like to rack the slide with an overhand grip.
On the positive side, the single action pull is great and there are a big variety of sexy aftermarket grips available.
Rented a 92fs at the range and loved shooting it. Very smooth. But it's way too big for my hands; I can barely deactivate the safety with one hand and mag release is a struggle.
Any smaller comparably smooth pistols / other sizes of the 92fs? I have a Shield and that's a great size for me.
Talk to me about this "trigger job in a bag"... I adore my 92, but the trigger is definitely a bit sloppy. I was thinking of taking it into a gunsmith but if that kit gets good results I'd be happy to just do that.
The rail does look worse, but the M9 wears a Surefire real purdy-like.
because someone's upset with their boring Glock brand Glock.
>Is this good first pistol?
It's a good gun, but there are better options made in the last 30 years. Right now the best first pistols for new shooters are polymer strikers.
>Get the M9A3 if you can afford it.
If you do, don't get it in that shitty FDE.
They make them in black now for those of us who aren't CoD babies.
It might be in the short-term.
Used FDE A3s are about $800-900 or less. I've seen sales of unused ones for just under $1000. But the gun has been out for a couple of years now. If don't want to wait that long for a black A3, cerakoting an old FDE one would be the cheaper option right now.
Eat your meat and vegetables, for fucks sake.
Literally one single person desperately trying to force a meme.
They're perfectly good metal framed pistols, like god intended.
Glockamatics bore some people, and nothing kills your interest in shooting more than a gun that bores you.
A gun has to be actually decent, sure, but if you feel nothing, how are you gotta feel the drive to practice and plink?
Smoother grips like the ones from Wilson Combat might help if you like the 92FS
*Slimmer
CZ75 maybe? Though people with big hands complain about the slide release on the original ones, you might like some of the variants with an enlarged one.
pre-3rd gen Glock
Went to my dad's earlier this week and he gave me a 92S that he bought from someone selling ex police guns, looks like it's in great shape but I have yet to fire it. Mag release is near the bottom of the grip though which is a pain in the ass.
Trap detected.
Are those good pistols? I like the aesthetic but i dont want to buy a beat to shit turd with no aftermarket.
A common upgrade is the extended mag release which is not expensive. There are much thinner grips out there as well. On top of all this, you can get a vertec style frame such as the m9a3 which is smaller than the ordinary frames.
Also
>Using Beretta 92 safety
>Not converting to G model
It's a piece of shit and the sudden love for them on here is beyond retarded...shitty slide mounted controls, fragile internals, exposed barrel (notice how fucking nobody else made something so stupid?) there is a reason why everybody moved on from these turds
>slide mounted controls
>fragile internals
>nobody else made exposed barrels
Holy fucking retard, batman. So nobody ever made pic related which was a huge success and easily one of the greates miltary sidearms ever adopted? Gee wow. Youve got to be a glocktard, theres just no other explanation for your stupidity.
Greasy
Bet you don't even shoot it nigger.
You actually fucking payed for that, you absolute sap? Jesus nigger. We got a serious richfag here. I honestly dont think its worth the price tag tho, its what? $12k?
I have 6 of them. They are very very good pistols. If you buy one, get a skelatonized hammer and D-Spring. The gun is best for a nightstand. I have carried the compact for CCL before. But, it is very heavy.
Go on Armslitst. I had some dumb rednecks sell me a 92A1 for $375. I was able to buy an INOX for $425 on AIM Surplus.
>Hipoint owner
I literally bough my first handgun today and it was an m9. Its good stuff brother
