Studying security/strategy and my lecturer for one of the courses thinks Australia can take two approaches since we're a continent but also an island

Part of me thinks there would be a coup within the army if our government ever made that decision, although I guess it makes sense to divert funding towards Navy and Airforce considering the fact that if China did land troops we'd be fucked anyway.
