Yup. A guy in wwII parachuted out of his disabled plane and killed a jap pilot with his 1911 as he was descending.

He asked "do they", not "did they", so as true as that jingoistic anecdote undoubtedly is, it's about six decades divorced from relevance.

Yes. It has varied by country and time period, so without this specifics, I can't tell you what they carry. Pistols and SMGs, mostly. Even a grenade in that recent case of the Russian dude.

Generally a sidearm on combat missions. So an M9 for the USAF. Those things are cramped as fuck and there's not much point in packing an M4 if it will just go down with the plane as you eject.

well they still fucking do so go fuck yourself buddy.

>THIS IS FOR THE BOYS!
>KABOOM
Manly tears, even if it is most likely propaganda.

da stechkin and grenade are standard tovarisch

Are there records of this? I know the allies have all these impressive war stories, but would a 1911 even penetrate the cockpit?

Dutch pilots carry a glock in their standard mission load out

I wouldn't be surprised to hear of US fighter pilots carrying personal firearms in their cockpits. They're kind of (cavalier?) like that.

Mostly pistols. Some carry SMGs, short carbines like the Mk18, or PDWs.

Russian pilots carry a PDW with spare mags and two grenades on themselves.
IIRC there's also an AKS-74u with a couple hundred rounds of ammunition somewhere in the ejection seat.

I believe they did find a zeros wreckage in the Pacific somewhere near the Coral Sea that had a 45 bullet penetrate it.

Fighter planes are not cramped. Just limited room on your ejection seat.

Putting a grenade on a plane, I wonder what could go wrong.

I remember seeing Navy pilots in the documentary Carrier checking Sigs out of their armory before blasting off. Can't remember if they were P226 or P228s.

They didn't look too comfortable with them. I wonder how much trigger time they get after they qualify?

They wear handguns in a holster on their parachute harness when deployed. Usually an M9. Most complain that it's super uncomfortable to fly with.

>even if it is most likely propaganda.
He did say exactly that on the video though, as far as I know.

t. russian bot

>islamic terrorist group in Syria is Russian propaganda

>Baggett, who was wounded, played dead, hoping that the Japanese pilots would ignore him. One Zero fighter approached close to Baggett, slowed and the pilot opened his canopy. Baggett drew his M1911 pistol, fired four shots at the pilot and watched as the plane stalled and plunged toward the ground.

This DEFINITELY happened. No doubt about it.

You ever been in an f18? It is most definitely cramped.
