a regular F16 from the IDF was able to take out Syrian air defenses equipped with Russia's latest air defense technology, the Pantsir-S1.
Is Russia truly BTFO ans is not ready fight the West? would WW3 just turn into a massive one sided onslaught just like the first gulf war?

the pantsir is only the start of the issue. the IDF has been running sorties on syrian airspace for a long time, and they have had minimal issue with AA.

The Russians stated that it wasn't operating. They also said that they would shoot down incoming missiles from the US, France, and UK. They didn't. it just seems like their making up alot of excuses at this point.

Russian weapons have always been overhyped. Every once in a blue moon they shoot down a western jet and somehow act like that is proof of their dominance. What they don't mention is the literal thousands of missiles launched per airplane hit. During operation shock and awe there were over 6000 SAMs launched and not a single american aircraft was hit.
even if it was operating i doubt it would have made much of a difference. the IDF has been able to destroy or negate syrian AA plenty in the past.

Why are they pointing to this one instance of a stowed Pantsir-S1 getting destroyed as "Russian air defenses don't work".
The Pantsir-S1 has been downing drones, mortars, and rockets fairly constantly in Syria.
As for why no Israeli jets got shot; that's just means their stand off weapons are being utilized. As we know that F-16I have been shot down by S-125 before.
Also (I'm not an expert) but why not use BUK's they're clearly superior to the pantsir

Using BUK is fine, they need to be placed properly so to have best coverage.
Unfortunately the Syrians have a shit air defense doctrine.
All their medium and long range stuff (BUK, S-125, S-300, 9K33 Osa) is part of the Syrian Air Defense Forces.
All of their Shilkas, TOR, Pantsir-S1, Tunguska; SHORAD/SPAAG systems are part of the Syrian Arab Army.
As such they're not side-by-side nor working together.. which their supposed to in a proper Intergrated Air Defense System.
A Pantsir-S1 would work far better if it got fore warning by the BUK mast search radars instead of relying on its own small dish.

I can't recall any war where russian stuff were't shat on or at best on par.
Iraqi T-62s acquitted themselves well against Iranian Chieftains and M60s. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
East German tanks were tested by NATO to be impervious to American rounds of that time.
And Chieftains (older marks at that) and M60s gave T-72s a severe thrashing in the Gulf War, the indication being the Iranians were just that shit.
