Almost every gun owner I know has a 10/22. I get that they're relatively cheap to buy/shoot, have a huge aftermarket, and are arguably the most prolific .22 in the US, but- are plain Jane 10/22s actually good guns?
Ruger 10/22
Other urls found in this thread:
>because people tend to recommend bad guns for other people they care about that want to buy a gun
yes
You missed the point completely. I'll paraphrase it for you.
>are 10/22s shit out of the box, but no one cares cause it's so cheap and they can upgrade them?
>are 10/22s shit out of the box
no
>but no one cares cause it's so cheap and they can upgrade them?
not many people "upgrade" guns, they buy them, shoot them every so often and stick them in the safe/closet.
10/22 are what you get to shoot squirrels and teach kids to shoot. if these were shit out of the box, people wouldnt bother in the first place.
I must be the only person in the world who never warmed up to the 10/22. It's got weird, fiddly controls like the mag release and the bolt catch that I just never liked. Which is weird because I love all my other Ruger guns. But the 10/22... I ended up selling mine.
Put in an aftermarket extractor and break in your bx25 mags by leaving them loaded for a while. Should be close to 100% reliable at that point.
Get the bx trigger on sale for $50 and it’s 80% as good the $200 aftermarket triggers. Certainly fine for any casual shooting.
Oh yeah, put in an auto bolt release when you change the trigger out. Will close the bolt with just a tug on the handle instead of that st
yes they are great out of the box (I'll go ahead and say bx25's arent an upgrade as much as a 30rd ar mag isn't an upgrade) but if there's something you dont like (my eyes have problems with the brass sight) it's cheap to upgrade to something far better. honestly just install a sling and put in tech sights and you're golden. maybe get a longer charging handle. lots of people get a bx trigger but I think the stock one is perfect.
I have 1 I dressed up like an M1 carbine. The stock has since been refinished using CMP instructions.
Hey, that's pretty cool.
Is it bad that I want to sell it? It looks cool and it's cheap to feed, but it's dead boring to shoot after the first mag.
>are 10/22s shit out of the box
you put bullets in them, and the gun shoots them out when i pull the trigger
i'm not sure what else you expect
it runs reliably
Just bought the take down version today. I haven't shot it yet, but my other one is great. I also just got this hand crank that I haven't got to try out yet either.
That it hits what you point it at?
That it feeds reliably?
How about you stop expecting answers fed to you like a white racist piece of shit and just FUCK OFF.
Get the FUCK out and go back to Jow Forums you racist moron. White alt-right piece of trash.
Couldn't agree more. The privilege oozes off OP's demands like a sickening right-wing slime.
Ironic shitposting is just shitposting.
It's not ironic you fuck. Get out.
Yeah, it works fine, or as best as a .22 can. I've never had a problem with my dad's that he's owned for 15 or so years.
So, you're not shitposting ironically? You're just a fucking retarded autistic sperg that can't have a conversation? I think the one that needs to fuck off is you, shitposter.
Just leave. Idiot.
Go back to plebbit, where you belong.
Thread derailed
nah, it's just over. OP got the answers he wanted and now it can die
yes they are fine. just buy what you want who cares what everyone else is doing
Not the only one but we are purveyors of heresy as far as /k is concerned.
Basically OP get whatever semiauto 22 you want. I finally have my 10-22 shooting like I want but for the money I have in it I could have bought a good bolt action or 2 random 22 plinkers from the LGS.
yeah i got one that was all fucked up. bought it new from dicks and it was dusty as hell. one of the trigger pins was stuck in the receiver because the hole wasn’t sized correctly. recoil spring rod was all fucked up. the thing only cycles 4/5 times
Mins has been okay, but I used butler creek mags and it fucked my extractor. Other than that, it works
as good as any other $200 semi auto 22 rifle. all things being equal, i prefer marlins to the 10/22 but with the enormous aftermarket, the edge goes to the 10/22 imo. of course, theyre both very affordable so i have both
>I get that this gun is good
>but is it good?
that depends on how you define a "good" gun
>Is it reliable?
Yes
>Is it easy/cheap to feed?
Yes
>Is it fun to shoot?
Yes
>Are parts easy to find/maintain/swap?
Yes
>Is it versatile?
Ish... depends on what you need it for
>Is it useful?
Yes, but again depends on what you need it for
>Is it well-made?
Yes, as far as entry-priced .22 autos go at least
>Will it keep me alive?
Probably not. Then again most .22s won't.
Overall, it's a great fun/training/plinking/squirrel massacring gun.
Marlin autoloader is best autoloader
They're cool and 10/10 for a first gun. But missionary for the sole purpose of procreation were a gun, it would be a 10/22. Nearly everyone has it, it just works, etc.
But I far prefer a Savage Mark II for .22lr bolt stuff. It's the equivalent of having a girl ride you and sticking a finger up her ass. It's exciting, different and feels good to do. BUT my main reason for a bolty was that I wanted to suppress it.
I've since obtained a suppressor and the gun is quieter than my pellet guns. It's basically hot BDSM anal.
They're great for what they are. I love mine and shoot it every chance I get but I wouldn't rely on them for defense.
I have a stock one and a modified one. The stock ones work very good but if you modify it you'll never go back.
How much lighter is the magpul stock compared to the wood stock?
The wood one is a lot lighter. I bet it might weigh half that of the Magpul.
I killed a small songbird at 60 yards one time with my 10/22, as well as a bunch of squirrels. Stock trigger and all. Much better once you put a nice trigger, an extended mag release, and an upgraded bolt release. They are capable and reliable, although they do tend to jam if they get super dirty.
This is mine.
It was kind of a hassle because I bought it from a final sale at some online gun store and when I went to shoot it the mechanism wouldn't cycle properly so I had to send it to a gunsmith and it cost me 130$ for all the repairs.
Its a Jard J1022.
Comes with a built in pic rail, match trigger and bull barrel.
That's surprising, thought it'd be the other way around.
get back to /mlp/. How in the fuck do you think a raid on Jow Forums will be anything other than obvious, retards?
is that the stock receiver on the magpul one or a specialty one? I want to get a takedown, since I live in a city and have no car, only motorcycle, so compact is everything.
It's stock. It was off of an old 10/22 called an "All Weather"
magpuls actually pretty heavy for plastic. the ar furnitures adds half a pound for the set.
You added that rail then? Nice.
There are better 22 rifles out there in almost every category, but popularity offers advantages of its own. It's not bad, but it's full of old-school-Ruger quirks like weird controls and magazines. I think it comes down to nostalgia... a lot of people like the 10/22 for the same reason I like the Winchester 190... it was "their first".
>You added that rail then?
The rail and front sight are Nodak Spud.
The stock trigger (on mine at least) is heavy, kinda spongy, and kinda overall shit.
There's a lot to be said about learning to shoot on a bad trigger though.
10/22s are acceptably mediocre out of the box. everything on the gun is ok but could be better which is why the massive aftermarket exists to correct those flaws.
What would I need to upgrade on a 10/22 (besides sights) for a Project Appleseed course?
I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Looks cool as fuck.
What's that little lever underneath the trigger guard?
you need to buy sling swivels which arent included with the gun yet every cheaper 22 has them.
10/22s full of stuff like that
Sling mounts and a standard GI sling.
Extended magazine release. Unnecessary, but definitely convenient.
>but- are plain Jane 10/22s actually good guns?
Yes, but they are fun money pits.
Yes. 90% of people are less accurate shooters than a stock 10/22 but will still spend hundreds kitting them out
If you want to get anything get tech sights and a decent sling, that's all you need until you're really good.
My 10/22 is a bone-stock 1965 model and she's dead-reliable and also a cute.
I hope this picture doesn't rotate on me too
just pay the money and get a non-Ruger 10/22
I like to think of .22lr as a jack of all trades, master of none round.
10/22's are good out of the box, but unlike Marlin 60's should you desire you have more customization options available. Personally though I never started with a 10/22, rather a Mossberg 43 I used on the rifle team. I want to get one for slightly sentimental reasons but at the prices they're typically listed at I'm not too sure, maybe if I want to burn some money.
You can run subsonic ammo through a plastic soda bottle on the muzzle like Wahlberg does in "Shooter."
youtu.be
Should I get a 10/22, a Marlin 60, or a Marlin 795?
want to mod the gun 10/22
dont want to mod the gun 60
dont want to mod gun but hate tube mages 795
Pretty much what said, though IIRC Marlins aren't as reliable as Rugers, not that that should be a major issue.
What do you mean?
