Does anyone here have experience with private maritime security companies? I'd love to have a job like that but it seems like something that in reality could be really shitty.

Seriously considering enlisting in the army as infantryman within the next year, any serious reason I should consider another job? I've looked at the full MOS list but nothing really catches my eye, I've been doing a lot of reading on it specifically people saying it sucked for them but working out and shooting at things for the next few years sounds perfectly fine to me especially if it gets me out of this shit area full of nothing but shitty temporary jobs and gives me the choice to stick with it and go up the ranks or eventually get out and use the gi bill

Why just infantry?

Like I said nothing else really catches me (besides maybe intelligence which I'm sure I'm probably too dumm to do) and I'd like something where I actually get to shoot occasionally instead of sitting behind a desk, I know it doesn't come with any useful skills to get a job if I decide to eventually get out but if I have the gi bill that hardly matters and it gives me plenty of time to figure out what I want to do

You 100% have to go at a minimum airborne. Ranger is ideal.
Basic infantry is gonna suck enormous ass.

Different user.
>solid foundation for base skill set if looking to transition through classes
>looks good on ERB/Promotion board
>Not just some POG when offering tactical/strategic input
>literally all other MOS exist to support infantry/calvary

Yeah I've already been told to ask about option 40 or something like that when enlisting, ranger sounds way harder than just infantry though and I can't find a clear explanation of how it works anyway, I assume it's enlist then do obviously do basic and advanced as 11b but I'm not sure from there. Do you have to ask/get recommended for it at some point after that or do you just automatically do RASP and Ranger School after finishing?

35N/M/P option 40 is the best job in the army if you want to do hood rat shit and do well when you get out.

Buddy im guessing youve done zero research cause thats bare minimum info and its easy as fuck to find out. You been asking on reddit or something?
Yes you get 11b opt 40.
You go Infantry OSUT(Boot+AIT)
Then right after Airborne
Then right after RASP.
If you pass RASP you go to ranger regiment, if you fail youre fucked and get sent to some leg infantry unit to rot.
Once in RASP youre gonna get tested and punished until you get sent to ranger school and pass.

>shooting at shit for the next few years
i shoot more as a civ than any western military shoots for their training. i dont get giggle switches though. :(
the point is you actually won't shoot a whole helluva lot and can do that on your own time no matter what you do. the job is shitty but power to ya.

wait. do people think polygraphs are real?

They Are for ts sci

The intelligent ones do.

Close, but when you get through airborne and fail rasp, they send your ass to Bragg. Congratulations, you're an all american lawn care specialist now

I had to do a CI poly which was a joke
>are you a terrorist?
>no
>oh ok cool have a great day

>they send your ass to Bragg
How is that different than what I said? Youre saying you get sent to an infantry unit specifically at Bragg? And are you sure that happens every single time guranteed?

what's it like being an infantry officer?

Well if you want to do cool shit and you don't want marketable skills afterwards, then why not go 19 series? 19D you train on every weapons platform the army has to offer iirc, and 19K is motherfucking tanks. Some bitching tank boots too.

I'd like to know this as well. Its my number 2 branch choice at current but it'll probably change soon.

Yes

comprehensive

My buddy is a 35m option 40 and that is one sexy MOS....

Rare breed indeed. I tried to get it at the recruiter and they all laughed. So I signed 35N airborne for dat bonus

>then why not go 19 series?
Fruity hats, in seriousness though I heard that they mostly just handle vehicles and rarely just guns

Option 40 puts you through infantry OSUT, then RASP, then airborne school. Pass all three and you get into the 75th rangers and get to do high speed cool guy shit like raids and sweet combat deployments- when you’re not having the soul smoked out of you for being a new untabbed Private. If you fail rasp, then you go as a basic infantryman to wherever the army decides to put you. It used to be a 11x OSUT, airborne, RASP pipeline- but they changed it last week to combat the people getting op40 so they could take airborne and drop rasp and get put in an airborne unit. Now, if you fail rasp, you don’t get airborne and you just go wherever the army wants as a grunt.

Leg infantry sucks dick. If you’re worried about rasp or don’t want to do rangers, get an option 4 contract instead and hen you just go to 11x OSUT and airborne school and you get to go to an airborne unit.

>but they changed it last week to combat the people getting op40 so they could take airborne and drop rasp and get put in an airborne unit.
I heard they were thinking about doing this, you got proof it actually finally happened?

As ashamed as I am to say it, I found this out through some threads on reddit on their army sub. No concrete proof but enough guys were saying it. Personally I wouldn’t wanna risk taking op40 just to get airborne and drop rasp at this point

>35N/P/M
>doing hoodrat shit

All of those are literally desk jobs. Will you get to go out sometimes? Sure, if youre language qualified or have to provide technical skills, and even that is the same likelyhood as the basic versions of those jobs. Will job prospects look good after? Depends. 35M is gonna have the hardest time trying to find a non DoD job. 35N will be easier, slightly, and 35P it all depends on what your language is.

>350F

>Personally I wouldn’t wanna risk taking op40 just to get airborne and drop rasp at this point
well that never should have been the case anyway. But ya like I said I definitely heard they wanted to but i havent heard its 100% official?
Link the thread?

OPTION 40 is the key modifier that makes those jobs a bit more than a desk job chief.

Just because youre in regiment doesnt mean youre gonna be kicking doors and going out and about. Regiment has finance dudes, HR, chaplains, etc. Please tell me how those dudes are gonna be doing hoodrat shit.

Not every haji is gonna want to go inside the wire to talk to HUMINT. Sometimes you gotta get out there and deepsea fish.
Not too sure about the other intelfags.

>35M

You sit behind a desk pretending to be busy while your NCOs do all your work and you get the credit

Hey just FYI, USAF basic is summer camp.
Easy as fuck
Tech school is pretty sweet so far

Yes, but you have pretty much the same chance of going out as a basic 35M in a non sof unit.

Im just saying, you shouldnt be saying those intel jobs will be doing hoodrat shit just because youre in regiment. Basic 35M and the rest have just as much a chance of going out and about. The major difference is just taskings and focus. Less bullshit tasks in any sof unit than a basic unit.

This, unless you’re on a SOT-A team in group for 35N/P you’ll never see combat.

Tell us something we don't know

350F here, ama. Stuck waiting for damn ferry in outer banks NC. 2 fucking hours.....

Job?

Have you gone to the advanced course yet

Not yet, my unit said ill go in a year or two, cause of funding.

Army Reserves runs into the same problems with funding like guard? I would have assumed federal = more $$$.

If my MOS isn't available, what determines if and when a slot opens up?

The needs of the army

Kek, I find it hilarious that I have over 6 6 years tig as a W2 and you're a W3 with no advanced course.

MOS?

It was 152H on the active side, now it's 153D

Right, but how often does that change? What causes it to change? Could a new slot open tomorrow, would I have to wait for the end of the fiscal year, or something else?

Ask your recruiter kid, it usually goes in waves. Like in January there's 10 slots and they all get taken, bby may they need 5 more, etc

going to meps next week

what should I expect? is it shit or is it just whatever

If you don't get heavy you're either a weak boi or a fucking female.

You ever fly one of those super secret stealth blackhawks?

I'm new to hawks, haven't gone to the course yet but I was an AH64D/E driver before.

It's a lot of waiting around.
Follow instructions exactly, don't act retarded, and listen closely.
You're gonna take all of the following in some order: drug (urine) test, blood test, weight and height measurements, flexibility test in your undies, eyesight test, colorblindness test, ballsack inspection, butthole inspection. If you get an airborne physical they look into your ears and ask you to swallow, then ask you basic questions like "do you have a fear of heights" or "are you depressed."
answer no to any and all questions like that. you'll fill out a sheet of paper with a laundry list of medical issues on it; only mark yes for the one that says are you in good health.
eat a big breakfast because you won't get to eat for a while.
when I was there I saw a kid get in an argument with the chief medical officer and get rekt. don't do that.

Each unit is given a certain amount of funds, much less so than active gets. They paid for my wocs and basic course, and promoted me from wo1 to cw3 in less than 5 years, so im alright with waiting.

how long is it? guessing like 8 hours or so?

Unit needed a cw3 to fill in the position. Plus my commanders cool. When i was interviewing with him, he was like I NEED a 350F. Apparently he had trouble finding 35F who were willing to go for it.

It really depends on where you are. I was at the Fargo ND MEPS and it took 4 hours or so. Busier ones take longer.

More repetition can't hurt.

Are stories of recruits fucking female recruits during ait?
I’m sure it’ happens but lol at the ones who get caught
I just want to know how likely it is since my recruiter keeps telling me “DONT FALL IN LOVE DONT FALL IN LOVE” during training

How to cope with the disappointment I feel with joining the Air Force? Everyone, including my USAF vet father told me to join the Air Force because of the quality of life.

But now that I've actually been in for a couple years, the quality of life just makes me feel guilty and soft. I volunteered for some tough shit because I lived a pretty sheltered easy life as a civilian, and now I'm living the same life but with a uniform. Theres no heritage, everyone in the Air Force hates the Air Force.

I have an awesome opportunity to commission but at this point im having trouble seeing the fucking point

Commission and go do high speed shit

>fail out of CRO/STO pipeline
>get reassigned to Personnel
>commit suicide
That's about how I see that going

>feel guilty and soft

As opposed to shitty and gullible?

>for some tough shit

You're obviously not on the flightline working 12-14 hour shifts, or a battlefield airmen out in the mud with the other branches, or hopping on and off your aircraft as aircrew. I doubt you volunteered for any "tough shit".

>no heritage
>everyone in the Air Force hates the Air Force

Sounds like you're at a shitty unit surrounded by shitty people.

>trouble seeing the fucking point

Well, considering that you're low key trolling while pretending to be an Air Force member, there is no point is there?

Attached: 1517891784335.gif (323x360, 89K)

Hes talking about ait most likely.

Idk how it was accomplished but at the end of basic people were telling me how drill sgt so and so hooked up with recruits and i was like, how? Always had battle buddys fucking everywhere.

I'm not on the flightline no, but I'm ammo and I've worked 12s. It's not difficult. And I have no opportunity for deployments other than OCN duty which is fucking stupid. I've considered retraining to TACP but I have no interest in extending my enlistment to do so if it means I could be sent back to my career field to finish it out. If I was at a base where we actually supported the flightline and I contributed to the mission i might not be so salty but I literally feel useless

You go needs of the army if you're 18X wash out, unsure about 11x opt 40

Yeah, they're trash unless SOF

>t. 35 series in SOF

So dont fail dumbass, anyone who goes in with a defeatist attitude is bound to wash out. I was in training for 2 years in not even a particularly hard pipeline and idiots who couldn't hack it would dor for stupid reasons. Any training is 99% mental.

>attached to sf as pog support
DUDE I'M SOF LMAO

35N with a scroll is doing hood rat shit, absolutely. You're fucking retarded and don't know what you're talking about if you say otherwise

Happens all the time, female soldiers are fucking hoes

Never said I was SF. But I'm doing much more high speed shit than the dudes I went to AIT with stuck at Gordon or Meade. Stay mad though, dude

for special access programs

Youre not in sof, quit trying to fool anyone

Yeah USASOC is the exact same as your trash unit, my bad. Don't blame me, blame your recruiter

MOS? Unit? Were you on a SOT-A?

What's the likelihood for a waiver for drugs rn? I'm talking acid, shrooms, cocaine, weed, nitrous, and ketamine mostly before I was 18 but a few times after as well. Just partying stuff. Im 25 now. 3 years of complete abstinence from any drug. I always wanted to serve but thought my past would prevent me. Should I give up on the dream?

Why would they know any of that shit? Admit to some weed, don't go all out.

Ignore that other guy and don't admit to anything. They have no way of knowing.

I want an 18x contract. I have been told that lying on an sf86 is completely stupid and that I will get caught.

SEETHING

You won't get caught. All you need is a secret clearance. You won't be given a polygraph (CI or lifestyle) and all they will honestly do is look at your credit and make sure you're not ISIS.

See
Does the security clearance change anything?

>muh 18x
You guys are seriously retarded. Go infantry and work your way into it.

Don't say anything about medical or drug history, but don't lie about criminal history.

Not for a Secret, no.

Oh wow I didn't know that. Thanks for the advice.

Can you elaborate on this? Why not go for 18x and then try to work into it if I fail? I run marathons and shit

I wanted to talk about it with you guys, but super asshurt dude is making me regret even coming in here. Definitely not talking about my unit now

Thanks for the advice y'all. I was about to walk into a recruiters office and tell them everything

Do you want to be a Stryker mechanic or parachute rigger? Because this is how you become a Stryker mechanic or parachute rigger. 18x is an easy way to get needs of the army

>tfw dad doesn't think I have what it takes to be a sailor

18x guys that make it to SFAS have a much higher pass rate than guys from reg line units. Now if you said go option 40 and spend a few years in regiment, I could see where you're coming from.

What do you recommend? 11b?

What means is that if you fail out of the 18x pipeline you get sent to the needs of the army.
Don't fail.

Meade is pretty cool though

Prove him wrong then

Ah okay no problem. I want to go SF but I have a huge appreciation and interest in intel so I always love hearing about 35 series experiences in SOF support.

I'll try to go to Meade sometime in my career probably just to get some strat time, sure.
This.
