Fake news. Just look at the source. If it was real it would be from the Department of Defense.

1st for laughing at you boots police calling when you go in.

If I sign up now I can probably make O3 by the age of 30. Will people make fun of me for being a geriatric captain?

Thinking about Air National Guard or Reserves, but I'm having trouble seeing job openings. Should I just contact a recruiter instead?

that 3 mile run is killer, anyone can fake a 1.5 mile

No, because O3 is usually the rank people get stuck at until retirement lmao.

no one cares about your age

Yes, contact recruiter. But be prepared, shits gonna move fast once you contact them. So be pt ready and study for the asvab.

You know whats funny, even though i know the graph is fake, that 2011 drop is from the time period when they extended most of the branches age limits, I think armys was 42 for that year.

Heard that, thanks!

What job you looking at, and what state?

Anything Cyber or 3d related(Want to eventually do Cyber Security), in Ohio. Springfield base is only 20 minutes away, and Wright-Patt is 10.

You already got a civ job lined up? Because all the NG or reserves will get you is the education portion for your resume. Ill take a look to see if I can find anything at the usual places for your state.

I'm currently working part time while working on a degree. I was hoping that with one of those jobs, it would make it easier to go to a better, more related job. Thanks so much by the way.

Can someone tell me if I should actually lie about med history? I had ankle surgery 10 years ago and the few vets I know have told me not to lie. But I trust Jow Forums more of course...

What's it like being a veteran in college?

Should I just not tell anyone I was in the military?

All I can find are ANG jobs. I will say they do have a IT presence in your state, so I dont think it will be an issue getting an IT job through them. Didnt see anything for army, but you never know.

Im an army dude, so I would recommend 35T, 35Q, and 17C if you do end up talking to a recruiter. 35T actually lets you opt into a AA degree program with the local college near huachuca, so that you can get all the shit you need to finish up your bachelors.

Is there a scar? Is it going to affect your performance?
Dont broadcast it same as anything else. If someone asks tell the truth.

Jesus christ how low are pt standards

Why wouldnt you tell people you were a veteran if they ask? Its a pain in the ass trying to explain what youve been doing in the 3-6 years since you graduated highschool. Plus there really isnt an anti vet presence, so theres no need to hide.

Thanks so much for the help brother, and I've been looking into those as well. REALLY appreciate it.

No prob buddy, good luck.

wear stuff that proudly proclaims your vet status and share the experience of taking another man's life
whether you did or didn't doesn't matter, it's all about perception. Also go to all of the frat parties and be very competitive with your drinking, you're a hardened vet after all and can outdrink the boys there.
everytime you hold a conversation, say "well in the [insert branch here]" and how exclaim how hard you had it, but how it was worth it.
these are the keys to success not only in college, but in life.

that person is not passing pt, let along tape. you'll always see the same few pics of obese marines being passed around. they'll never reenlist and are likely getting separated, hence the overweightness.
plenty of marines are overweight, but if you can't make weight/tape you're not reenlisting so they don't last at least.

Classic navy vet

Everytime I went to some kind of party at my uni, it was always a navy dude wearing his ship hat.

There is a surgery scar, but no it does not effect any performance

Anyone know of any gun friendly AC storage units around Fort Bragg?

If the scar is visible theyre gonna see it. So if you have a great lie go for it but if you dont have one just tell the truth.

I wouldn't lie about surgical stuff, particularly when you have scars they can see to confirm you had it.
I joined the Marines after ankle surgery no prob. Got a waiver quite simply and hasn't been an issue since.

So guys, just got called into my company by my 1SG, I walk in, he tears my specialist rank off, throws on SGT chevrons, and says,"you know youve been an E5 for 4 months now." Im like no 1sg, im an E4. He tells me, "well according to your ERB and the system, youre an E5, congratulations." I say, roger, and walk the fuck out of there.

>mfw I didnt even realize the significant pay bump
I just assumed my pay increased because it was my anniversary date. Guess theres no point in studying for a promotion board anymore lmao.

35M btw

Attached: M14 in its natural environment.jpg (900x598, 242K)

Nope, just spray your shit in EEZOX and pack it in foam.

check your fuckin LES at least once every other month dude. so you dont get scammed by the feds for someone else's fuckup and have to pay back a ton at once.

gz btw, from now on keep up with your own shit.

wtf? How does becoming an E-5 in the army work? isnt there supposed to be a board or something?

Appreciate it guys. I guess I’ll have to be honest.

I didnt bother checking because I was waiting on a promotion board and studying the past few months. I actually was signed up for one next month. I went over my LES, everything is tracking. I even went to S1 just to make sure everything was legit and I wasnt being trolled.

Its either board or they just push you in if you got the points. I didnt think I had enough points, but I might have miscounted. I assumed I needed a board since my peers who have the same TIS as me had to do one in order to promote.

eh, boards aren't technically mandatory.

ghost boarding is a thing if you're a known good.

Honestly no one cares about your age.

I'm in the airforce and am taking leave for the first time. How can I find out how much I make per day in BAS and BAH since I'm not eating at the dfac or living in the dorms?

it's literally on your LES moron, down to the cent.

I thought AF was supposed to be competent with paperwork

I don't have my LES yet. I was talking about now

You clearly have a net connection, so open mypay and look at it larper.

It's all online, depending on your rank and location.

I get statements on the 15th and 30th, so I wouldn't have the future statement that includes the leave I am using, so I'd have to wait until the day comes until I can see it.

>takes leave
>gets BAH
i dont think so pal. just assume you're not getting anything extra because it's negligible and you won't actually get anything until it's all processed iirc Don't even include it in your budgeting.
also jesus christ do you not have an nco show you this stuff? Someone should be showing you these things, like maybe the person you submitted your leave to?

When are you supposed to get access to your .mil email? I’ve been in for over 6 months (training) and get asked weekly about it by others

Active duty or guard/reserve?

You don't get one unless you need it, or maybe that's branch dependent.
I've never had one, I have a separate dod email due to my duty station and role. If you need one and are at your first duty station, ask around and see how things will work for your situation.

I know people give the marines a lot of shit, but they do an extremely good job at weeding out bad recruits... hell, the army in particular does a bad job. Berghdahl couldn't make it through CG boot camp.

Idk bout that buddy. Know plenty of shitty marines. You just hear more about army because there is a larger population pool to find fuck ups in compared to the usmc.

Active, going to first duty station soon

You fags are so spoiled. I'm joining the FF Legion, because America's primarily girl scout tier DoD does not any longer see a use for criminals. Before you take the high horse, I'm not a violent rapist like a lot of you become after enlisting into your culture of welfare and gibbs.

Thank you to grunts, and limited demographics within the SOF community. You guys kick ass and earn way less than you actually deserve.

As for the rest of you, you're an expensive meme.

>limited demographics within the SOF community
What does that mean? You mean everyone but SEALs?

You sure you dont have a mail.mil account? Have you tried logging in on ako or enterprise? FYI if either of those dont work, go to your O room sgt and tell them you dont have an email. FYI the email is only accesible with a cac reader, youre not gonna be able to log in with a password and such unless youre logging in for the first time and they provide you with a password.

tldr
Go to O room and tell the nco you dont got an email.

You get your good with your bad, right? That's true everywhere.

Have fun living with some of the smelliest races on the planet.

Dude, their attrition rates make the US military into a literal fucking good-boy nuggies-scout camp. They only take those with good hygene, physical and mental aptitude. Over 90% of the few people that show up to Aubagne end up ousted before earning the Kapi.

Spoilers: The FFL checks Interpol now.

Bro, indians and nigerians have a natural stench to them that no amount of deoderant and bathing can take away.

Furthermore, I would take quality of life over perceived prestige.

Anyways, good luck with your FFL goals, I really do hope you make it.

Like my county bench warrant that doesn't even exist will show up on INTERPOL. You're lost, boy.

Lol Interpol is not gonna have him in their database for a B n E or possessing a quarter pound of weed with intent to distribute.

Thank you man. I really do appreciate it.

It was a no accident no fatality DUI two years ago. I'm sailing smooth on probation. For now...

>same level of training
>worse quality of life
>massively worse quality of equipment

In America, grunts get good quality boots for free, both summer and winter kinds. Remember I told you this.

This guy is right. They get about 12k applicants per year and only accept 1,100. I tried to join in 2016 with documented combat experience as a grunt in the USMC, serviceable knowledge of the french language, and in better physical shape than i ever was while i was in the Marines, and I was still not selected.

Attached: 64312066-EB16-4544-A6C7-7EB1724676F4.jpg (533x400, 34K)

Shiggy, thanks for that grunt life my nigga. It's a little discouraging to hear that, though I'm hoping that my desperation and lack of any other options at the point of being there will serve me.

time to reenlist there devil
oorah semper fi

>I'm not a violent rapist like a lot of you become after enlisting

who do you think is doing the raping and general high-tier shenanigans?

Attached: 1526959191848.jpg (680x510, 94K)

>marine
This is why they didnt select you. They know all to well how arrogant marines are.

FFL also turns away a LOT of people.
There are no end of skinny, perfect 20/20 guys from Eastern Europe who have already done time as a conscript.

I had a buddy who was a Marine and even got to go to Jump School. He didnt make promotion cut (not for lack of trying) and was not allowed to remain after ETS.

Well..

He tried to get PMC Jobs but the heyday was 2004ish. So no joy.
He tried LE work but didnt like it.
So he says he is going to France.
So off he goes thinking he is going to make it.

It should be noted that he had no legal problems, not divorced, no kids, and was still in oorah shape.
He got turned away his second day. They had, according to him, LINES of guys who looked lean and rangy.
He was told that his loyalty was in question because A: He was American and B: he had been used to good kit and amenities.

He was termed a "flight risk" because they just didnt see him going to Africa for 1600€ a month at age 24.
1600€ for an East Euro is a King's Ransom

tl;dr You ain't joining the FFL

Did you make it to that tense ass point where you make a three sided square and see if they issue you a contract and orders?

If a major conflict kicks off soon I will. Otherwise, you couldn't pay me enough to tolerate peacetime grunt life.

yeah you're probably right. I did make it to the very last cut of the selection process though. oh well at least i can say I tried.

MARSOC MARSOC. Or go 18x bro.

Nothing hurts in trying. I was just saying thats why they cut you. Also makes a good point. They know americans are very patriotic, ESPECIALLY marines.

is there any advantage to going NG over reserves?

I get that. I'm gruff, an Ironworker that has paid taxes and been entangled in our shit legal system from the get. I'm used to scraps, low pay and living in squalor. If I go there with nothing to lose, I think they'll recognize that. I'll be doing.more listening than talking anyways.

well i'll have you know, you fucking pussy, that i am a god damn killer. i will make it because i have what it takes, unlike you losers.
t. me the exception

The national guard is much more combat arms oriented if that's what you're interested in.
Also, the guard receives state as well as federal funding, and that typically translates into more opportunities to be sent to training/schools.
Reserves are probably better if you want to do intel or something because there will be more promotion potential for those jobs than in the national guard.

Some jobs dont exist in certain states in either branches. Education benefits are slightly different, and jobs are slightly different. For example, intel guys in reserves will do more of there job than intel guy in guard. Also depends on if you care to participate in state emergencies or not. If the governer calls up the guard they gotta show up for shit. Reserves usually doesnt respond to civilian affairs.

Also, the national guard members can receive state funding for their civilian education. Most states (with the exception of I believe Texas) won't give special benefits to reserve members.

likely varies by state and what you wanna do. you can probably find your state benefits for service members on official state sites.

Commissioning question

I've researched Marine corps and what I see is: for a prospective officer, pick 5 MOS fields and they'll try to get you one of those 5. i.e. You'd pick 5801, 0301, 0801 etc but there's not even a guarantee that you'll get one of those 5. I'd like to do it but I've got a tech-heavy STEM degree and I don't want to get corralled into comms or whatever. I want to gun. Is there no way to guarantee it beforehand?

Attached: Thinking_Face_Emoji.png (640x640, 101K)

No guarantee unless you go reserves, and possibly marine option nrotc. Honestly I wouldnt worry about it unless youre going for straight combat or intel jobs, those are always heavy.

i am interested in combat arms. my education didn't take me where i want to be, so i want to get a feel for the military by doing either NG or reserves and then if i like it switching to active duty.

i have a terminal graduate degree so educational benefits won't really help me unless i can use them at community colleges to take classes i might be interested in, like various trades courses or reupholstering.

also, i haven't been in a pool for over a decade and even back then i could barely swim. should i take some swimming lessons prior to trying to join? i'd most likely try to get into OCS.

>switching to active duty
It can be very difficult.

If you want combat, go NG SF. Or 11A or 19A if you dont think you can cut it for an 18X position. I recommend NG over reserves for combat positions. So the thing with NG they like to spend more money on their combat arms than any other field.

Switching to active duty is a bitch, so dont worry about it for the forseeable future.

there's a marine captain(?) who occasionally does "marine question time" that would probably be of use to you.
Check in every now and then and ask him stuff, then check back in hours later to see if he replied maybe.
I'm enlisted but have asked my own officers about it, generally it just seems to be regarding slots open and where you stacked in the class...

However the Marine Corps is big on #diversity for its MOS's so it's not sequential down the list of top picks and top students.
Take a list of the slots open, then divide those slots into 3 separate lists and finally they try to accommodate the officers while also filling needs of the Marine Corps.
So hot jobs are generally taken primarily by top of the class and then a few other guys get lucky who were middle of the class (per se)
Repeat this convoluted process until all slots are filled.

The idea being that you don't want shit like supply officer to be stacked with retards and shitty leaders, so you force some solid candidates into that field as well.
Granted I'm enlisted and this is all secondhand, I've never done extensive research on it because fuck that. Take this post with a major grain of salt and ideally rely on commissioned Marine user to give you a solid rundown and advice.

Attached: woolleymattis.jpg (474x300, 21K)

is it really that hard or is it a matter of putting in your time so NG feels you've paid your dues?

also, would i have a shot at 15A as someone going through OCS? getting to fly whirly birds would be great, but not essential by any means. and seriously about the swimming, should i prepare?

You rang?

No way to get an MOS locked in unless it’s JAG or Pilot. You’d have to compete for it at TBS. that being said, if you are smart and can convince your Staff Platoon Commander to fight for you to get a specific MOS and you aren’t a turd burglar, then you have a decent chance.

>I'm not a violent rapist like a lot of you become after enlisting
Yea since you're going FFL its probably before

Attached: 1508175621965.gif (500x650, 839K)

Do Marines give out Pilot slots easily?

I saw recently that 30th AG is holding 11x's for a lot longer than expected due to an "influx of new recruits"

Does this mean I'm fucked when I go to MEPS next week to select my job? I want 11x, hopefully with op4 or op40.

I never had to swim in the Army.

>is it really that hard or is it a matter of putting in your time so NG feels you've paid your dues?
From what I understand it's a matter of luck, connections, and needs of the army. "Paying your dues" rarely gets you much in the Army.
>15A through OCS
It's possible in the guard, but I think states prefer to get their commissioned aviators through ROTC. Still try for it if that's what you want.

No, they are incredibly selective and the pipeline is the number one source of supply/admin officers for all the guys who drop out along the way.

>tell mom I want to fly helos
>reeeeeeeeee no you'll die
>okay
>sign intel
>tell mom I want to contract for a year or two after I get out
>reeeeeeeee no you'll die
I should really stop telling her things

Attached: cat at bat.png (854x544, 623K)

I fucking hope youre joking

Wait, you want to fly?

Alright, we got a few options here, although they are all active, since I dont believe reserves or guard send newbies for flight school(but I could be wrong).

67J are the medevac chopper pilots
15A are the rest of them

Although, you will still have to branch choose, there is no pilot option through active army OCS. I do know for a fact that going WOFT is the best way to become a pilot. Alot of guys go woft, then switch to 15A when they can. Or they just stay warrants forever. Reason being, that once you hit O3 in 15A, they put you in a desk or leadership position. With warrant you fly forever. But if you do switch to reserves you can fly until O4, but thats it.

If you dont know how to swim, probably best to learn. Especially if you end up having to go to sere.

I'm not. Not finishing my WOFT packet was 50% her nagging, 50% not wanting to sign for ~8 years.
