This is the reason the civilian population should be armed.
Civilian Gun owners saved Norway from a Swedish invasion in 1905.
French Civilian sport shooters resisted Prussian occupation in 1870 and 1871 while their army was getting steamrolled in Sedan.
The most excellent Snipers of WW2 were civilian gun owners too who had lots of experience due to recreational hunting. Both Simo Häyhä and Vasily Zaytsev achieved excellent marksmanship due to years of hunting experience.

It's not the enemy that destroys an army. It's bureaucracy, politicians, and economy. Everything run by the state crumbles sooner or later.

Russia has a decent military, but a decent military can only defend its own borders. It is in no position to successfully invade, occupy, and pacify a different nation.

Germany is suffering from a sort of personnel trap that many western forces are also running into problems with, the worst being Argentina IIRC. They spend so much on troop costs that there's little money for anything else- politics both prevents them from lowering their troop numbers and increasing their budget.
