Rifle help

Aight fags I'm a newfag here, and I need your help. I've had guns for years now, about since I was 15, but I've never owned a semi auto centerfire rifle. I have a SMLE No. 4, and a 10/22, if you were wondering. I want a gun that feels similar to my Enfield, meaning made of wood and steel. I want it to have a traditional look and feeling to it, but still be quite capable in combat. I would prefer it to be in .308, or something similar, since I love the kick of my No. 4. Does anybody have any suggestions?

You'd probably like an m14 or bm59. A vepr in 308 would be a great choice too. I love mine, but it's not a wood stock model like you maybe prefer.

No Galil is only choice

for anyone with galil experience
Ive got a parts kit built ARM in .223

I have trouble with cycling. it will randomly short stroke, not eject the spent casing. instead of hitting the ejector and coming out, it falls down on the left side of the bolt and gets smashed to shit as the bolt comes forward to load a new round

i was thinking of loading some hotter 5.56 on the upper end of the loading spectrum per my Lyman Reloading manual. Should this solve the problem?

Are your gas ports fouled? What brand of ammo is causing it to short stroke?

THIS or the grand pappy Garand.

i think it was PMC .223 which is why i want to try 5.56

i would think that if the gas port was fouled it would short stroke more consistently

>No Galil is only choice
At least in 308 you can maybe justify that it's a heavy pig of a rifle.
I hated the 556 version I held because it weighed a ton to fire little bitty 556 from.
I'd still like one for the collection despite that though.

Get an AK. If you REALLY need a .308 get an AR10, SCAR, FAL, or CETME, rest is trash.

>wahhh gun is too heavy
Vaginaman

>I only carry my guns from the truck to the range bench and back again

>every gun has to be a fully battle-ready gun

OP here, thanks for the wide "spectrum" coughcoughautismcough of responses. After researching for about an hour and a half, the M1A/M14 seems like a good choice. Specifically James River Armory M1A's. They chrome line their barrels, and they have forged receivers, whereas Springfield does not.

Nice, shoot it lots and let us know how it works out

also give the vepr 308 a good look. It's an incredible rifle with great wood furniture out of the box, but also has SVD-clone furniture available. If you choose the 308 version, CSSpecs makes really high quality steel mags for it. They work amazing and are easier to get than factory.

RS Regulate makes a really nice side scopemount for them, repeatable with good accuracy. My VEPR (now with ALG trigger kit, RS lower, 30mm RS rings, 1 inch scope shims, and a Nikon Prostaff scope) gets sub moa accuracy. If I run steel case I get 1.5 moa. The whole setup was under $1500, and has a threaded barrel after removing the thread protector.

It's an amazing battle rifle, and the recent import bans will make them appreciate in value steadily over the next few years. KVAR still has them in stock now if I recall.
