Why is that stupid? The article says that had the problem solved in 45 seconds, so it seems it worked okay to me.

Totally not some boomers fantasy

This is why

MURHEEEENZZZ BEND RIFL DUN WORK HUUUU

I don't see the problem. He had a tool available and he used is. Until the day in some far flung future universe that USA picks an enemy capable of electronic warfare, that sort of thing will only get more commonplace.

He should have honestly understood the weapon better if he was going to put his, and other people's lives on it functioning. But he was smart to talk to someone who DID understand the weapon and was able to correct the issue. The story seems silly but it worked out for the best and should be a cautionary tale not to fuck with a machine you don't fully understand

>had to call CS for a problem that could be fixed in 45 seconds

the problem is that he couldn't fix it in the first place. It's like an IT person calling customer support because his computer won't get an internet connection because the ethernet plug fell out. It's laughable that they couldn't fix it themselves after all their training

so much for knowing your weapon.

>every marine is a rifleman
>but the riflemen don't know how rifles work

>Dank yu for khalling kustomar servis. My name is Tom, how may I assist ju today?
>*rampant gunfire*
>My gun don't werk!
>I am very sorry to heer dat sir. Is de problem mechanical?
>*explosion*
>I-I think so, yes!
>Okay. Since de problem is mechanical I am going to transfer you to de maintenance department, is dat okay?
>*wilhelmscream.ogg*

>Okay, sir I am now transferring you to de maintenance department. Dank you have a nice day.

Kek

>gun no work
>rather then waste time fucking around you ask someone who knows what they're talking about
>gun now works

So how many of y’all have actually been in a legit firefight before?

As opposed to an illegitimate one?

I really hate to break this to the high-speeds in this thread, but most service members don't know much about their weapons past the basic firing and functioning level.

I've met 18B's who know less about weapons than I do.

Despite it being a simple problem the Marine was smart enough to think of a way to find a solution

What is the ear of the lower receiver?

It listens for the proper timing to grab and feed the next bullet

Have they promoted him to Colonel yet?

Colonel? That's an understatement, this man should be at least a Major General.

don't be retarded, the man clearly belongs in MARSOC.

watch CMLL

>Implying they don't headhunt from the Army SF community for MARSOC

Let's get real, he should be promoted to Commandant of the Marine Crops

Jow Forums is full of toothless hillbillies I swear.

10/10 operator.
>Army
>try SPORTS, fails, then gets overrun and butchered on GoPro
>Navy
>drops rifle, tries to run, can't and then calls for back-up
>back-up shows up and takes a RPG killing them all
>rest of team is killed except for a Sole Survivor... roll credits.
>Marines
>call the customer support during a firefight, getting the weapon back in the fight
>Jow Forums makes fun of them
Jow Forums is full of twigs and fatties that couldn't make it through a week of Marine boot camp, that's why the levels of salt surpass the Dead Sea.

Because theyre armyfaggots and not Chad Marines.

This. Holy shit. I've got an Army guy with me today at work who I am orienting as an ER Nurse. This guy knows jack shit. When we began talking about guns he just kept saying, "lol yeah dude I just want an M4 with a cool scope on it like the Navy SEALS!"

"Hahah, well you can probably build something like an M4 it's pretty easy."

"Nah, I dont have my license to build guns. Besides I dont want an AR. I want an M4"

"Okay bud."
Idiot.

>t.antifag scum

It’s so old you fagot kid

This. Both of this. It's insane how many people still just assume .mil=GUN MASTA FLEX. Some will know good knowledge and technical info.

Most have zero reason to in any deep capacity beyond "does my piece go bang when I need it to."

This seems like the most reasonable post in the thread.

From what I can guess he probably was never trained or briefed on the maintenance of a M107 or was anyone else in his squad probably. Happens all the time in deployments where guys are pressed into service on weapons they never trained for
