Because .45-70 when using hot rounds is accurate out to 500 yards. If you know you won't be shooting anything further than like 150 slugs are probably better.

I went shooting the other day and shot some Hornady leverution and some Montana company bear loads out of marlin that absolutely killed my shoulder. I like shooting large caliber stuff and it's never been an issue for me before but 4570 can be brutal. Any tips 4570 fags?

One of the biggest advantages of a shotgun is the variety of ammo. At that point you're basically buying a shotgun with a far more limited range of ammo available.
