Depends. My 1895 was $2000, but similar ones sell for $4500, so that's the best in terms of raw value.

But in terms of proportional value, my 2nd (and now sold) Lebel, since those typically sell for around $1300 now and I got it back in March for $250.

Picked up my K31 from a gun show a few weeks ago for 500 with the bayonet, frog, sling and 150 rounds of ammo

I’m going to a gun show tomorrow hoping to get some new funs. May ur luck rub on me

just got this for $300. What should I use to clean the wood up?

Attached: M48.jpg (3988x1153, 1007K)

330grit sandpaper

>What should I use to clean the wood up?
Damp rag and elbow grease.

I got a FN made Peruvian Mauser in 30-06 yesterday. I think it's pretty neat

>What's been the best deal you got on surp?
I traded a Remington 710 and $50 for this 1919-dated Steyr-made M95 infantry rifle in 2012.

All of my milsurp has been decent deals.
>$75 M1891 Carcano Cavalry Carbine
>$225 m/96 Swedish Mauser
>$525 Grade 2 AG m/42b Ljungman
Looking around for more milsurp. I'm thinking of an SKS or more Swedish guns or Ljungman actions.

Alright Jow Forumsondoms, I need some advice. I am going bear hunting this fall in Alaska and am in need of a rifle. The only thing I have that is capable of ttaking a bear is my finnish m39 that I bent the bolt on. Since the bolt is already turned down, should I just drill and tap the receiver for a scope?

(You)

I was gifted three of my surps so theres that

No you should let the bear eat you.

Does anybody know why some M.95 bolts have speed holes and some don't? My Stutzen has a hole in pic related near the bolt face and my M.95M has a couple on the bottom. None on the longboi.

Just got this Danish Krag. Check the dubs on that serial number.

Attached: 20180714_140634.jpg (4032x3024, 3.7M)

>Marbles rear sight
Dubs can't redeem this one. Who the fuck even sporterizes a Danish Krag?

Maybe hes danish

Nah, I just traded for it. I kinda want to give it a full-length Man-Licking stock. It also came with 99 rounds of assorted brass and loaded ammo. Got it at the Tanner Gun Show. Guy who traded it to me was wearing an Imperial Japanese Navy hat.

Huh. Was sure I just clicked each of those once.

Picked up the C96 yesterday from the UPS distro center. It turned out better then the pics on gunbroker showed.

Attached: C96.jpg (1376x731, 514K)

Nice.

180 for a VZ 98.
Though accounting for all the expenses for it to come into my possession, it comes out to around 230.

Attached: IMG_0954.jpg (1923x3519, 2.33M)

I can only say deals in relative terms because I got my Yugo K98k and K31 while they were both still sub 175 dollar guns. Otherwise I've paid fairly normal prices. My Bulgarian M95 for 400 was pretty decent though

What model of SMLE should I buy if I want something well built and study, that will be in good condition, but not "museum quality" because i want to shoot it. Chambered in .303 of course. Want to expand surp bolt gun collection, only have mosin right now.

Should I get a cmp garand or a dsa fn fal?

Watch the C&Rsenal episode on Mannlicher carbines. It explains it.

There's a Gewehr 88/05 for sale locally for $325. The bolt is non-matching to the rest of the gun. It's a Danzig Arsenal gun that doesn't have Turkish markings. Is this a good price? I'd ask in the QTDDTOT but people in /msg/ would probably know more.

Your main choices are the no.1 mk.III or no.4 mk.I-2. At that point, it's really just an aesthetic choice, because they're really about as good as the other, unless you care about sights a lot, then a no.4 is the way to go. Otherwise, it's not any big difference that will make or break either option.

Garand.

Unmolested, non arsenal rebuilt Smith Corona M1903A3 for $500.00...in January of 2013, so not as impressive, but I'm still proud of it.

$300 is good for a non Turked example. AFAIK modern 8mm cannot be used in the action because it's not as strong as later variants.

bought a few K31s from big5 for $79 a piece back in 2005. i knew it was a smoking deal back then

A Winchester M-1 Carbine with matching numbers, bayonet, four 15 round mags, one 30 round mag, and a sling for $400 was the best deal I've ever got. Yesterday I bought a P series Finnish nugget wit for $425, may have been a bit much but it shoots great.

Thanks for the info my guy. They also have a Turk 88/05/35 for about the same price. Is that a better alternative for price/ammo usage?

Many thanks user.

I'm looking into buying a trapdoor. Are there any years/models that I should avoid (e.g. shit sights, unsafe to fire, etc)?

You did really good fren!

Attached: IMG_20170910_164421.jpg (4608x3456, 2.72M)

>gun has "guess the reserve" activated
>either no one bids, or someone bids to a certain number
>"reserve not met"
>this goes on for SIX FUCKING MONTHS
Do these people not want to sell stuff?

How much for a .45ACP Webley?

I want one so bad, but I'll probably have to settle for an '06 commercial version. The Roosevelt commemorative editions are absolutely stunning.

Can't get a pic rn, but I have a 1904 M96 Swedish Mauser that had some wood damage on the cheek weld, so I got it for 260 in a combo deal with a Citori. I refinished it with BLO and filled it in with some of that wood paste.

Are you wanting to just clean it or refinish it?

You're hurting my soul... Go to Bad Ace Tactical online and look at their M39 scope mount that fits in your iron sight base. We will only have X amounts of these firearms forever. Don't do it if you don't have to.

picked up a first model (1869/1870) egyptian rolling block a few weeks ago for $200. bore is great. the half cock notch does need some repairs and the rear sight is missing a few parts. but even once those are fixed i think i got a great deal.

on a related note, anyone have good advice for measuring a 5-groove slug? i tried the soda can thing and it didnt give me much better results than just using the calipers.

Krag carbine (1899, not chopped down 1898) with rear sight replaced with an adjustable peep and handguard missing for $425. I'm tempted to say that's still a good deal since it's a carbine. What say you all?

>yfw it's not there when you go back.

I wouldnt say Ive gotten a deal on my guns. But the bayonets for them have been good.
I got my Martini-Henry spike bayonet for $50
my M95 bayonet was free with the gun. Thats really it i guess

You think we're joking when we talk about people who "know what they've got"?

>Live in the UK.
>Military surplus is literally just clothing, and bags and camping equipment, that sort of stuff.
>Used to be able to buy knives, but that was years ago.
WTF? Why is my country so utterly shitty and boring?

You can have fun with that Trump balloon I guess. Although that might be considered a deadly weapon in a few months.

Once I have my engineering bachelors I'm emigrating to the US. Fuck this shithole. I want freedom.

thanks user. you think it would be too much to put a coat of linseed oil on it, or am I straying into bubba territory?

So looking into buying a Gewehr 98, if the rifling isn't sharp how much will it effect it's accuracy?

There’s guns I’ve seen on Gunbroker for 3 years. So hard to believe they just haven’t finally switched them to “no reserve” just to get rid of them.

Other than the normal things to watch for in other old rifles no not really. I've read no tale desenting any in particular.

>The Model 1866 and around abouts "Allin conversions".
They are converted rifle muskets. The sights are primitive as hell since they were made for the time of volley fire. To me the only reason to get one is to fill the spot in a US collection. They saw active service and combat, but personally I'm hesitant to shoot a converted 150+ yo rifle.

>The Model 1873
Finalized design, purpose produced rifle. Ladder v notch sight, no windage, friction held rung.

>The Model M1884
There are some tweaks over the 73 but the only noticeable difference is the Buffington rear sight. Ladder, screw nob set peep plate, screw nob windage adjustable.

Of the three the 84 is held as the best sights. I've also read out in other forums that the 84 was banned in some Cowboy Action competitions since it is a full adjustment peep sight and gave a unfair advantage.

One thing to look for tho is the barrel to have the "VP [eagle head stamp]" mark. Thats the US proofing mark stating it was visually inspected and gauged, and proof fired at the Arsenal when it was made. When I was in the market many trapdoors for sale lacked it for reasons I'm not sure of. Also to my mind the trapdoors and rifle muskets may have some interchangeably for lock part (just paranoid thinking). The trapdoor has a three position lock (1/4, 1/2, and full) while muskets only two (1/2, full).

Attached: M1873 Trapdoor 2.jpg (2483x559, 380K)

Won't know until you shoot it. They're not especially accurate rifles to begin with though.

Attached: 20170529_143139.jpg (2025x409, 570K)

Whatd you pay for that? Its seen quite a bit of """work"""

Then why're they so popular? Isn't a bolt action all about accuracy?

It's already in pretty damn good condition already I'm probably going to keep it the way she is now

because they're old rare collectors items?

pls gibs advice

Got this for $1800.

Attached: 123.jpg (2048x1365, 678K)

What the hell is going on with this one then? gunbroker.com/item/779324372. It seems to have the 1879 sights, but it's marked as 1884. It also has the 1888 "screwdriver" bayonet too. As far as I know, the Circle P stamp it supposedly has also means it was refurb'd by an arsenal. Did they slap together a gun with whatever random stuff they had on hand?

Do it.

Because its the German empires ww1 service weapon, very rare because most were converted in ww2 to kar98s, and roller coaster sights are dope af. Its actually quite accurate if you can get the hang of the sights, as they only go down to 200m so you have to aim kinda low.

>Its actually quite accurate if you can get the hang of the sights, as they only go down to 200m so you have to aim kinda low.
What's funny is I can't aim for shit with modern sights, yet I can keep a tight group with a Mauser where I have to aim a foot low to hit bullseye. Whenever I can, I always adjust my sights to be "pumpkin on a post" style.

>What it is: 1944 Mauser K98 no import marks. Chambered in 8mm.
>Condition: Not original, non-matching, Shooter. This is not a collectors gun.
>Why am I selling it: I don’t shoot it. It sits in my safe.
>What does it comes with: Rifle 115 rounds of mixed ammo.
>Price: $300 no trades at all.
>The bore is in decent shape, a bit dark but the rifling is strong.
my gut says get it but I want a second opinion
not sure what the point is since I already know k98's are retarded now and this one is $300 with ammo so I don't really need to ask but it's not like I got anything better to do

ya that gun isnt right

Attached: byf44.jpg (1552x3221, 2.42M)

whats wrong with it besides the price

Attached: 1517455019175.png (1920x1080, 1.14M)

Its a capture that has been refinished and $300 is a great price for one right now. Id buy it if I didnt have nice ones.

I'm tempted because of the price but I got a M48 so not really sure if I really need it. What is the market price for something similar right now?

side note: I looked up the guy's email and it says he's been working QC at nusig for 5 years rlymksuthink

probably like $550+

How did you get one for $300? I've been trying to find a nice one and gunbroker has been shit for finding a deal on them and my LGS has sewer pipe bore M48s for $550-600.

Attached: IMG_2857.jpg (500x724, 140K)

Just don't use Ss Patrone tier ammo. Privi is supposedly fine, along with overpriced American hunting ammo. S&B is Ss Patrone level and is too much to reliably use in those.

really? they are still easy to find for $250-350

big5 still has them for $349.99 i believe. i would not pay anywhere near $500 for one unless it was absolutely mint with every fucking accessory. allans armory has a few for $400 allans-armory.com/aaresult.php?PageId=32

J&G has a few for the $300 range if i remember. just check armslist and buy them private party, they are selling like shit right now and people cant unload them for more than $300

buy it you retard. trust me ive been collecting for 20 years, thats a good buy right now. you will regret not buying that in a year or so when you become more knowledgeable

if you arent going to buy it send the link i will. market price for a russian capture thats been cleaned is like $500 and going up still. its a real K98 and will be miles above your M48 in fit and finish. its shooter grade so you wont feel guilty about getting that barrel piping hot at the range with rapid fire surplus corrosive. buy buy CONSUME IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LET IT BECOME YOU! YOU ARE A MAUSER NOW. A COLLECTOR OF BONES. SWING YOUR DICK IN THAT SELLERS MOUTH AND SLAP HIM WITH ALL THE CASH YOU GOT. DEATH BECOMES YOU

Attached: conan.jpg (400x600, 50K)

They were accurate for 1898. Most service rifles of the time only had to meet ~4MOA from the factory. BlokeontheRange talked about this in a recent collab with Forgotten Weapons.

>most were converted in ww2 to kar98s,
Relatively few were converted to Kar.98k; the Reichswehr were only allowed to keep enough rifles for 100,000 soldiers and 15,000 sailors. Sure the Germans managed to sock away a few for a rainy day but literally millions of German rifles were destroyed following the terms of the Versailles treaty. This is why it's hard to find 1918 (and especially 1919-dated) German rifles (1918-dated WF Mauser examples being the exception, since they were producing a yuuge run for the Ottoman Empire in the last year of the war). When rifles were collected for destruction the first ones to be collected were the brand-new ones still sitting in factories and arms depots across Germany.

user, I really appreciate the help but there's a few problems that I have
>Nearest Big 5 is 3-4 states west of me (IL)
>Armslist has nothing for M48s instate
>J&G has one in the $300 range with rust and pitting
>I preferably want to keep it under $400

It's just a waiting game for me now.

Attached: IMG_3504.png (1192x830, 228K)

gotcha. dont stress then, they arent drying up anytime soon and have relatively low demand compared to their german counterparts. youll find one soon enough. i will cast a spell for you

Attached: 1499046889588.png (1132x1000, 248K)

any swedish m96 anywhere?

What are accurate rifles in your opinion?

$700. I know I overpaid, but it's not Turk marked and it's from 1906, so I couldn't say no.
Because of non-performance related reasons.
Depends what kind of curve we're applying. For milsurp, my Ross Mk3 is the most accurate I've tested. But even the Ross pales in comparison to a modern bolt gun like my Savage 110. Hell, it barely beats my RFB most days (though I haven't worked up any match grade loads for my Ross yet, so that could change).

Attached: Gew98 Crest.jpg (1536x2048, 205K)

What auto-surp should I get? An SKS or a VZ-52?

Attached: M91-30 (1943) profile.jpg (5183x1365, 2.52M)

Do you wanna be able to shoot it or not?

if you don't want to ruin the Garand by drilling a scope mount into it , get the Garand.

If you want to mount a scope , get the StG-58 Clone.

Mauser Oberndorf 1944 production.

I have an Oberndorf '43 in my possession.
its a Russian capture , with mostly matching numbers , even the stock has the same numbers.

If I could get one of the VZ-52/57's I would be happy, since I already have an AK to share ammo with.
Even though I'm probably not going to be buying anything for a while, not till I get settled in my new apartment.

Attached: Argentine 1909 stabby.jpg (4000x1223, 2.27M)

>I'm probably not going to be buying anything for a while, not till I get settled in my new apartment.
That's the smart move to make. Neither is likely to climb in price over the next few months either.

Attached: 20170927_115506.jpg (4032x804, 2.54M)

I also said I wasn't getting anything till I got my C96 fixed, look how that turned out. Surp is pretty much the only thing I have low inhibitions with.

Attached: 1898 Krag–Jørgensen profile.jpg (3000x850, 1.31M)

found it it at my lgs. it had rust on the bolt handle and buttplate that I removed before taking the picture, and there's some rust in the bore but no pitting, and it was missing the sight hood, cleaning rod, and sling.

I just picked up a Type 99 with Mum and Airplane sights for 300 cash yesterday.

Attached: Type99.jpg (1460x860, 746K)

Thanks for the info. All my local shops only carry Prvi anyways, funnily enough.

not from any retailers i know of, simpsons or j&g might have some but theyll charge you bigly for them. that said, i think they are still worth "inflated" market prices of today, they will for sure increase in value. very high quality firearms! sad!

whats a ok condition chink 88 worth?

Well done.

rangebud sold me the swiss 1911 longboy for 110,- funny euro bills with a paper box of g11 from the 70s.
