>(EgyptAir Flight 648) had landed in Luqa Airport under the control of Abu Nidal faction terrorists, purportedly as retaliation for Egypt's failure to protect the terrorists that had hijacked the MS Achille Lauro earlier that year. Several hostages were released (11 person), and at least one Israeli woman was executed.

>Although the operation was planned carefully, the TF 777 operators committed several mistakes that would eventually prove fatal to many of the hostages. As explosives were detonated to attempt to blow a hole on the top of the airframe, the explosion ripped through the cabin area, immediately killing more than 20 passengers. Using the same hole, the operators gained entry to the plane but in the confusion opened fire indiscriminately and killed and injured most of the passengers. In the ensuing chaos, passengers that managed to flee the plane were then gunned down by snipers in positions around the airport who mistook them for terrorists attempting to escape. The total number of passengers killed was 57, out of 88 total

Finland got dabbed on

t.retard
Spetsnaz has the best history of saving hostages considering difficulty of operations. No operation stands close to the Beslan, Nord ost or Buddyenovsk raid

No operation stands close as in the scale of the op or the amount of casualties? Cant tell of youre joking about horrible Spetznas ops gone wrong or making a serious point about the issues they faced.

From the old book of Tang
>Yin Ziqi had besieged the city for a long time. The food in the city had run out. The dwellers traded their children to eat and cooked bodies of the dead. Fears were spread and worse situations were expected. At this time, Zhang Xun took his concubine out and killed her in front of his soldiers in order to feed them. He said, "You have been working hard at protecting this city for the country wholeheartedly. Your loyalty is uncompromised despite the long-lasting hunger. Since I can't cut out my own flesh to feed you, how can I keep this woman and just ignore the dangerous situation?" All the soldiers cried, and they did not want to eat. Zhang Xun ordered them to eat the flesh. Afterwards, they caught the women in the city. After the women were run out, they turned to old and young males. 20,000 to 30,000 people were eaten. People always remained loyal.
> People always remained loyal.

Finland merely lost a tiny portion of land instead of the entire country. They succeesed where Poland and the Baltic States failed.

In attacking Finland during one of the worst times to attack, the Soviet Union caused more damage to itself in multiple ways since it meant less troops to defend their genocidal Georgian ruler during Operation Barbarossa.

>when an undisputed European superpower gets so soundly btfo'd in three months by a smaller and less industrialized nation that they lose that superpower status and get invaded by hitler
>gets so soundly btfo'd by farmers that they scrap their plans to annex and or create a buffer state effectively gaining only 1/10 of what they thought they'd get
>tried to recreate what the Germans did in Poland only to strangle their supply lines and look like idiots to the world
>b-but they won

That was the entire basis of that opinion paper written by a US army general "Why Arabs Lose Wars".

Apparently from his point of view, Arab culture is basically rooted in prestige and distrust of the people lower than you.

>Translate tank manual into Arab languages so Arab forces can learn to use tanks
>tank commanders don't pass them out because it'll be an attack on their honor if their subordinates know as much as they do
>Commanders sometimes just make shit up because if Arab culture at the time, if you had to reference a book it meant you were a retard who couldn't memorize books verbatim so they had to pretend they knew what they were talking about

The Italians in WWI were somehow EVEN WORSE

Before he was the Desert Fox, Rommel was a junior officer serving in the Imperial German Army

>Rommel's battalion, consisting of three rifle companies and a machine gun unit, was part of an attempt to take enemy positions on three mountains: Kolovrat, Matajur, and Stol.[25] In two and a half days, from 25 to 27 October, Rommel and his 150 men captured 81 guns and 9,000 men (including 150 officers), at the loss of six dead and 30 wounded.[26]

And that's not even talking about how they had 12 "Battle of the River Isonzo" events and literally nothing changed.

It was unironically a hard core but based move.
>outnumbered 15:1
>cut off from your supply lines
>still onflict six times the casualties
>held off an army that was vastly larger for years, sapping their resources while giving time for your own to consolidate and raise an army
>eventually resulted in a Tang victory

God being white is the best, I'm so glad I'm not part of these retard shitskin desert clans.

but its okay though, they stole the child's candy, so they won.

Soviet Union didn't achieve their political goal, so they didn't win by definition.

Except they did.
The Winter War was a Soviet victory.

Lack of social cohesion is the hallmark of a primitive or degenerated race. We can only achieve what we are willing to work together for.

This is why I am absolutely unafraid of Arabs in the event of a race/civil war.

>Winter War
>Finland loses some of its land and Soviets get to technically claim victory (While failing what they initially set out to do)
>Finnish military ends up with a lot more equipment and vehicles than they started with because they captured so much from the Soviets
>The whole conflict makes Soviets look like idiots, contributes to Germany's decision to invade them, and cements Finland as being on the German side when that war does come

>1:10 loss ratio is something to be proud over.

Finland achived their political goal and the USSR didnt.

Both sides lost to be fair tho, Finns lost some of their land and the USSR lost all of its dignity

Daily reminder the Russian Federation is the sole successor state of the Soviet Union.

The USSR won, finland lost. Suck it.

The Russian Federation is as much of a nation as the gas station down the road from me. Both offer the same commodities and have about the same standard of living.

Dayly reminder that Finland is the sole sucessor of Finland. What was your point again?

Thats not how winning works. Or do you think the US won Vietnam too? No you dont. I know you dont because I know who you are Ivan, you allways lurk Jow Forums just to specifically tell finns that loosing all of your dignity and 200 000 of your own citizens was a good tradeoff for a few kilometers of useless land.

The lead up to the Battle of Tsushima and then the battle itself

Winning is winning. the Russians won and indeed the Americans lost in Vietnam.
>Ivan
Try again, loser.

>Americans lost in Vietnam
A peace treaty was signed and it was under the terms the Americans dictated. Sounds like a victory.

Okay Tovarisch then. Or Vladislav. Or whatever, if you act like a vatnik, you are a vatnik no matter where you are from.

How exactly did the USSR win tactically or strategically? The US at least won on a tactical level in Vietnam, winning most of the individual battles.

The USSR didnt gain anything of strategic importance, and lost almost all battles horribly.

If the US lost Vietnam the Soviets lost Afghanistan

Both Vietnam and the Winter war were disasters for both sides. Just because they signed a peace agreement, that didn't give them their actual strategic goals, and proclaim a victory doesn't actually mean they won.

You don't win if you attack a country with intention of occupying all of it then you fail to meet that goal

Attached: Ribbentrop-Molotov_no_legend.svg.png (2000x1864, 655K)

No its totally fine, they signed a peace of paper and said they won. Why wouldn't you just take their word for it?

They destroyed like 22 tanks a day, that's not a Soviet victory.

They’re not a separate race, they’re just a mix of Asian/white/maybe black that inbred quite a bit

I'm pretty sure WW1 Italy is where GW got the idea for Imperial Guard tactics
>eyy Luigi, go charge that machine gun position with your squad
>ayy fuck-a no, all the other 13 squads before us got wiped out for nothing doing the same thing
>entire platoon gets executed for insubordination
>and another two as well, for good measure

If you don't meet your war goals you don't win

Soviets didn't

>doesn't understand the difference between peace treaty and surrender

lol

>A peace treaty is an agreement between two or more hostile parties, usually countries or governments, which formally ends a state of war between the parties. It is different from an armistice, which is an agreement to stop hostilities, or a surrender, in which an army agrees to give up arms, or a ceasefire (truce) in which the parties may agree to temporarily or permanently stop fighting.

I know this is bait, and I'm responding to bait.

If you think that the Soviets calling it quits after taking a few miles of meaningless land because they lost shit tons of troops and equipment and were getting their shit kicked in by the finns is a victory, then you have retardedly low standards for what counts as winning a war

If someone cuts your balls off and you kill them, sure you killed your enemy but now you have no balls

Brilliant

Not him but tovarisch means friend

>ive never heard of a Phyrric victory before

>look at me , im a successor to a pile of shit

it also means comrade

>rules of war require Orel leave lights on
>Orel gets spotted by jap cruiser
>Orel spots the crusier too
>Orel thinks they're russians

>How exactly did the USSR win tactically or strategically?
Mannerheim changed his perception of USSR completely, becoming only an uneasy ally for Germans and holding back against the complete encirclement of Leningrad, despite all the pressure from Hitler. This allowed the Soviets to retain the Road of Life to Leningrad and prevented the fall of the city, and the millions of civilian deaths that would follow.

In that sense, Winter War did serve it's original purpose - increasing the security of Leningrad - fully. Just not in the way Stalin originally intended.

Finnish industry was of little value to Soviets and the local population evacuated anyway.

Ha ha, is of funny picture.

Oops. Haven't heard of that one before.

And people still wonder how the fuck did Revolutions happen, both of them.

Eh, I thinks I fucked up them definite articles. Is of apology. Is somewhat drunk.

Roman military prowess and massively inflated numbers
never believe a Roman "historian"

The Roman military was extremely organized, damn near everyone else was not. Which is why so many got roflstomped against them. Also they had professional soldiers.

Attached: 1493181900099.png (1896x1700, 369K)

The Brits brought their wagon train directly behind their lines so that their families could watch them "slaughter" the Romans.
When the battle started to go bad (as it would when you let the Romans pick the location of the battlefield and just charge into the front of a legionary shield wall), the British warriors tried to retreat but got bogged down in their own supply train and family. The Romans proceeded to march forward and kill everything that moved. Women, children, even the animals. The goal was to end the rebellion.
In this case, it's likely more true than untrue.
We get those numbers from Tacitus, who is generally very reliable and actually has an anti-Empire bias. Tacitus was a direct second hand account too as his father in law was at the battle.
