I have read stories written by actual survivors of long term shtf scenarios in places like south american countries where basically everything (govt, police, local utility infrastructures) failed for months at a time.
these survivors found that being a participating member of local community for support, barter, trade, mutual neighborhood protection was absolutely the highest of importance
having things like weapons, water and food stored up is of course highly valuable. but having and being part of a community network or decent people nearby is top of priorities

You almost had it right. Any shtf scenario that has happened or could possibly happen affects your access to only 6 things;
-food
-water
-shelter
-security
-medical care
-communications
Those are the only things you need to worry about, regardless of what the event is. You stockpile a reasonable amount of supplies to get you through the initial onset, and you use your skills to retain or regain access to any of the 6 necesdities that are threatened or lacking. You also need a well-stocked reference library, none of this bullshit comic-book tier infographic horsecrap, but real books on a bookshelf.
