Not being able to put your foot back down and be stable is worse than turning your head for a split second when you should have a sufficient amount of distance to allow for it (otherwise you wouldn't be going for a leg kick anyways). If the choice is between having less time to react to a punch (which shouldn't even be possible to throw at that range) and getting put on your ass and then getting grounded and pounded, I'd take the former.
