What is Jow Forums's opinion on folding stocks?

What kinds do you like the most? I think the ones that completely go around the grip are nice. What material do you like? Do you like skeletal folding stocks or full ones?

I think they can be nice, but aren't strictly necessary for rifles or anything.
I'd say they're a great idea for short guns like subguns, compact shotguns, etc.

On the other hand, an FAL is already really long with a folding stock, but that shorter length can make the difference of that thing easily fitting in your car, depending on what you drive.

Trouble with a lot of folding stocks is that they are just rickety as all fuck when you try to use them. This makes shooting with the damned things so unpleasant that you want to re-evaluate why you got it in the first place and wish you got a solid fixed stock instead.

With AKs, this generally applies to under-folders. Even if you had an under-folder that by some miracle secured itself firmly it would still be slow to fold or unfold, have poor cheek weld and potentially interfere with anything mounted the dovetail mount (if there even is a dovetail mount). So while it looks cool, it's just a poor solution.

A side-folder is much better, but the wire stocks are still less than perfect in terms of cheek weld.
The AK-74S "triangle" side-folder is kind of the gold standard. It mounts securely, latches securely when folded, opens quickly and offers good cheek-weld. Only problem is that it typically folds to the left so it can't be fully closed if the dovetail mount is in use.

And of course there are commercial options like Tapco which look promising, but may be let down by less than stellar quality. Also they are all but guaranteed to have you met with disapproval from everybody for putting Tapco shit on an AK.

Folding stocks are good because you can
use them if you wanna hide your rifle in your back pack school
(SHOOT THOSE FUCKEN NORMIE ASS JOCKS)

do you have any informational pictures that show all the kinds of folding stocks? i dont want one that sucks

Have had one for five years now, never had an issue with it. Its a neat little feature while inna-vehicle or doing some other non-combat work

>gun
>non-combat

can you explain this

>Unloading a truck
>raising a tent
>carry shit
>doing literally any sort of work

You dont just throw your rifle on the ground when you are to do other stuff then beeing in combat, its still on your back, and having a folding stock means it doesnt get in the way as much.

Shoot up a blm protest

go to pol

Soldiers don't run around like Rambo constantly shooting.

99% of the time they're just lugging around their rifle rather than actually using it.

Nigger

yeah i know but if a folding stock makes it harder to use wouldnt that be super important to NOT have

Folding stocks makes work easier user

Weight/size reduction is far more valuable to the average grunt than any marginal improvement in ergonomics.

whats your favorite kind?

Not him, but AK-100 series is GOAT

That green finish on the AK5 has always made my penis the big penis.

I love the classic underfolders. The newer sidefolders are allright, too.

Wire sildfolders like in OP are cancer tho. Bad aesthetics, they're kinda fragile, and you'll feel them after a few mags.

the one you posted is the kind i want to get

im going to go figure out what brand it is today maybe

Yeah, I have never understood why more nations doesnt have geen rifles.

The Romanian style side-folder is nicer in 5.45mm and 5.56mm than in 7.62mm, the recoil makes a difference.
Also, wrapping it with something helps too.

it's an extra step for production and it's actual use is controversial

Of course, they also just look badass in 7.62mm, and the ballistics are better with a shorter barrel than the other calibers.

>rickety underfolder
Lmao look at this retard who's never shot guns before

I guess, but dont you paint most guns anyway, just in black? So why not trade that for [whatever enviroment your nation is in]?

Lots of underfolders are rickety and wobbly, they have their reputation for a reason.

Trip on, nigger

So every one you've tried has been sturdy as a rock and hasn't loosened over time from recoil?

We had one folding-AK for the vehicle crew because regular stock wouldn't fit in the vehicle. I had some shooting with it, never on range but on those torso-sized collapsing targets in some scenario-type of shooting drills. I hit quite well, one dude hit 100% and some people hit a bit poorer. Shot about 250 shots with it.

BETTER RUN BETTER RUN OUT RUN MY GUN

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks

please dont ruin my thread with edgy posts......... i dont want it deleted

K

thanks buddy

Mostly a meme unless in a vehicle a lot, but even then an SBR with collapsible stock would do you better.

Folding stock go to POGs
People who generally don't need to use a weapon

Black is the result of the anti corrosion processing. Either way, what color? Any nation with the resources to afford more than the generic minimum is going to be in multiple environments. Does everyone get three sets of every weapon?

Sweden, who obviously has afforded it, only really have two enviroments, green and snow (in wich case you put white tape on it). Unless you are playing world police or have a fuckhuge nation, isnt 90% of the enviroment pretty similar?

The pictured folding wire stock works well on my WASR-2, but that is because the 5.45x39 round has minimal recoil and cheek weld and a comfy stock are not really requirements. I also have a Zastava M70 underfolder, it's a nice build with the chrome bolt carrier and bulged RPK trunnion. It is just not pleasant to shoot past around 150 rounds because that underfolder stock. Very compact though. Finally, I have a Polytech AKS-223 that is also an underfolder. However, it is chambered in 5.56 and is far more comfortable to shoot.

Not him, but in the case of my two underfolders the answer would be no.

The Swedish army is also active in Afghanistan and Iraq, like most NATO armies.

Yeah, where the difference between black and green is minimal, so they dont fare worse then anyone else. We only have like 50 people in Afghanistan these days, and ~200 in mali. The rest of our roughly 40 000 guys are back in Sweden. National defence is prio one these days, so buying special equipment for UN/NATO PFP missions isnt going to happen.

Sweden isnt a member of NATO by the way, and only around 30 SOF guys (who doesnt use AK5s anyway) are in northern Iraq

>T. probably hates baneposting

I don't really get the complaints about folding stocks wobbling. If I have mine shouldered it doesn't wobble at all.

How about folding braces

wtf is baneposting?

for you

How fucking new can you get

that's the weird thing, first time i've been on /b/ was 2007. but i never fucking heard the term baneposting

No one cared who I was until I started baneposting.

>He doesn't think every blm member should be shot on sight

Shiggy diggy

What the is the point of a fin brace on a short barreled shotgun? You can get away with a fin brace on an AR-15 pistol because there's not much recoil to manage, but on a tiny shotgun it's a whole different story.

Do you use the extra holes on this one to secretly attach another totally-not-a-gun-accessory piece of plastic and rubber when the feds aren't looking? Something like the Tailhook brace would have been a much better choice.
