My PTR handguard wobbles front-to-back. The retaining ring wrapped around the front of the recoil tube is loose (not entirely welded-on). How do I amend this cheaply?

Thats a normal use for an AR10 I hunt moose with my saiga 308. Thats one of the things i bought it for.

Are DSA FALs reliable in the field? I want a battle rifle that can take a beating, but I don't want to destroy something that's collectable for the sake of people who actually care about that.

I heard about a special forces guy who uses a DSA FAL, forged receiver I think. He posts here on some generals occasionally, cool dude.

I have heard DSA in recent years has had some QC issues so like any gun you plan on using for fighting, put a lot of ammo through it at the range to make sure you got a good one. Other than that the DSA rifles only real issue is some mags wont fit a easily as other FALs, something having to do with the pattern they used for their blueprints.

they're very accurate. Guy at my range shoots one all the time with nightforce glass and a nice aftermarket trigger. Half inch groups for days.

I picked up the rifle and printed a 1 inch group first try and I am not a fantastic marksman.

I built a FAL from an Imbel kit on a DSA receiver. Haven't fired it yet- had to order a locking shoulder and I'm waiting for it to arrive. The rear sight is awful wiggly. I took it off and put it in a vice to pinch the wings together and it does fit noticeably tighter now, but there's still some wiggle-room. Is this common? Is the sight fucked? If it's a problem, what's the best way to fix it? Replace it with another sight?

Also, when setting the gas setting, what's the appropriate ejection pattern for a FAL? I've heard 10-15 degrees to the right is optimal. Is that correct?

Anybody find any uses for their type C bayonets aside from making your rifle 25% cooler and more front heavy?

Its the best battle rifle available but the price reflects availability not cost of production. There are cheaper options out there to sling 308.

Anyone have recommendations on how to restore the recievers on a fal? Bought one recently and it's go what looks to be discoloration from either rust or weather, but I'm not sure how to go about restoring the steel.

prod the area with a toothpick. if some of the discolored steel comes off, its probably rust.
pics would help.

I've cleaned it with clp, and there wasn't any flakiness, it looks like discoloration.

My PTR91SC is in the shop for EXACTLY this reason. The cocking tube hanger has 3 tig wields that hold it to the cocking tube and none of them got any penetration. The handguard would "walk" forward when shooting. I took it to my local gun/machine shop to be fixed and check the head spacing on a new bolt carrier and #17 locking piece.

I'm sure PTR would have fixed it at no cost (great customer service) but I didn't want to having it shipped back and deal with all that BS.

Seriously? For a tig weld to have no penetration you pretty much have to do it on purpose, and even then it would take a special kind of retard to manage that.

yeah, I was just as surprised. Unless they switch to Mig for this rifle to speed up the process and fucked it all up. My GIR was definite Tig and I've never had an issue.

I was going to fix it myself but I don't trust myself. I'm now very good at anything that isn't Mig, not enough practice.

Would you recommend the PTR for babbies first BR? I was looking to get the A3R model for the wide handguard but would you trade it for that foregrip? How's the functionality with the that foregrip vs without it?

It depends on what you want to do with it. It's a great gun but wrecks brass and is heavy. I would argue the ar10 is better because of the aftermarket and less moving mass in the BCG. That being said, I still have 2 PTR's and sold the ar10.

I run an AFG on my duty gun so that what I'm use to. The foregrip was spare so I was trying it out. I have a wide handguard for the one now and I like it more than that slim.

Honestly, the receiver being cast isn't anywhere near as big an issue as DSA's horrible QC and inconsistent machining.

The rs regulate rail also holds zero even after being dropped from like 5ft (ak operators did a test on it). I would take a look at that if you want to mount an optic on an AK but dont want to get an AK specific optic or you want to use an optic you already own

this is a good suggestion. I like to larp so i got russian optics.

I have 4 AKs and will eventually get a RS regulate and an aimpoint t2 as well as a variable 1-6(is)x scope

I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to the Fal style rifles, but I've decided it will be my next purchase barring an svt40(been pining over one for almost 4 years).

Is there a /k Guide on what to look for in one?
I'd love one in wood furniture, but Those seem to command a hell of a price tag compared to their tactical tupperware brethren.

Ideally I'd like a G3 but those are few and far between in my locale.

They tend to churn out bad batches occasionally. But being the ONLY new COMPLETE rifle makers of the FAL, you’re kind of left with very limited choices.
