Safari Hunting Rifle Thread

Don't see this a whole lot, and if we do I wish I was there. Let us see some big boi guns, love the aesthetics of these things.

Bumping for interest

I got a thing for express/double rifles. They look the part of the safari gun so much more than bolt guns.

I'd like to go on a safari one day. Not to hunt, though.

Because Jow Forums is
>60% leftist no gun teens
>15% foreigner no guns
>10% government agents
>10% gun owners who don't hunt
>4.999999999999% who hunt but can't afford to go on safari

>4 bore rifle or gtfo

>find Dakota Arms Model 76 Classic Deluxe in .375 H&H at Field & Stream
>it's $1200
>originally $7300
>very tempted in buying it, but had just bought land and don't really want to spend more money
>pass on it
>2 years later start wanting to hunt large game up in Alaska
>tfw regret not buying it when I had the chance

>not buying a $600 1895 marlin for Alaska
Come on not.
Modern .45/70 is superior to .375

I have one that I am going to use, I just regret not buying that absolutely beautiful rifle for that price.

It is shitty that .375 rifles are so retardily expensive.

you gonna make us ask?

Don't ask questions.

>Modern .45/70 is superior to .375
This is the most retarded thing I've ever heard on Jow Forums

Back in '89 my dad went bear hunting on Kodiak Island. He used a .375 for his main rifle, and had a .44 magnum as his sidearm. He didn't get a kill, unfortunately.

.45-70 [20 in barrel ] [can use hardcasts, and brass/copper solids exist in .455 made for 45/70]
500 grain bullet
2000 fps
4442 ft lbs

.375 HH [24" barrel] [hottest load I could find]
350 gr
2325 fps
4202 ft lbs
>larger diameter
>heavier
>similar speed
>more enegy
Get fucked pleb.

hornady.com/ammunition/rifle/375-h-h-270-gr-sp-rp-superformance#!/

2800fps generating 4700 ft lbs. 5 seconds on google.

The .45-70 load you've described is far beyond the safe limits of the Marlin and would be used exclusively in Ruger single shots. In that case you should just get a .458 since you've forgone the lever anyways. Anything you're going to be running out of a lever gun is going to be about 1000ft lbs behind the upper end of the .375 H&H. Cry all you want, but the .45-70 is a wheezing little chode round compared to real safari calibers.

In short
>more energy
>better retained energy
>flat trajectory
>does all this while being a repeater
>doesn't need to cry about Taylor KO factor & other made up "math"

>this goober actually thinks .45-70 is an acceptable safari cartridge

I jsed heavkest loads for both, if you throw a lighter 45/70 youll get more vel. Faster, and the energy will go up for it to.
Retard

What is reading comprehension

silly me

Post that started it all
Lrn2read faggot
You need at least a 50 big for the Alaskan bull elephant didn't you know?

Haha yeah only the largest caliber I know of or gtfo why would you use something other than the largest caliber I know of?!

But they aren't. You can find em for like 1k.
Or if you just want to tickle the big gun itch you can shoot 300 or 338 RUM.

>Lrn2read faggot
wot

The rifle was a Safari rifle, marketed for people who go on Safaris, I just would have used it in Alaska instead.

Sheeeeit, my .700 is at my Dads place for a good caring for. If onlyvthis thread was two days earlier.

RSM 458 Lott. Went on Tanzania for cape buffalo but only shot impala and wart hog. Whacked the wart hog with a buddy’s 375 and impala with my 458. Had to handload to get 500 grainers to 2300 FPS. That was 10 years ago. Think I shot a round bale of hay with it about 5 years back. Full tilt loads are like being in a car wreck.

C'mon man, take a sec to google some load data if you aren't sure.

The only way a .45-70 will come close to a .375 for energy is by handloading for a Ruger single shot. It will also have the ballistics of a thrown potato. But whatever, Marlin 1895 best gun, Jurassic World told me so.

the trick is going on a safari wit ha .22 and the elephants will kill themselves laughing at you.
