Pretty good actually, haven't had any reason to change the on my 104

Put one on my Vepr and it took the already light recoil down to hardly noticeable levels. It also made it way fucking louder.

whats the deal with amd-65 barrels made in the us? why are they shitty? also i really wanna build a parts kit for cheap, obviously im gonna learn a bit more but i want some knowledge for future endeavors, can i use any plain old ak receiver or do different variants have slight modifications?

Assuming you're referring to the ones Classic is selling, the barrels are soft, supposedly. They're not going to last you as long as a CHF CL barrel would, and there's some question as to whether or not they'll last even as long as nitrided barrels used in most US AKs. While one could definitely argue that the Classic AMDs are still a good bargain for the price and that if you can afford to shoot out the barrel, you can afford to replace, people here would generally recommend just getting a gun with a good barrel from the get-go.
As for building, you can still find AMD-65 kits with the original 12" barrel already pinned into the front trunnion. You'd have to get one of the extended AMD brakes and then pin and weld it so that you don't create an SBR, but those are rather cheap and I see them on GB pretty often.
As for the receiver, the NoDak Spud NDS-65 is what you'd want, as that has the cut for the folding stock. You could, however, build a fixed stock AKM-63 (pic related) and use a 16" barrel for the build, foregoing buying a barreled kit and getting one for a bit cheaper, but you'd have to buy the rear trunnion and stock, as most kits have the folding stock, iirc.

Specifically barrels from ESS that were used. They were so soft, some people bent them while try to whack their canted sights straight. They "fixed" the issue by switching to harder, but still incredibly soft barrels from another manufacturer iirc

I really like slant brakes. I'm not sure if they work, but they're so minimalist, I love them.

The only time you notice them working is on full auto

They kinda help with sustained automatic fire. There's fuddlore that the offset angle of the slant helps counteract torque put on the bullet from a rotating bolt, but I just don't see how that works since it's not open bolt

Actually it's designed to compensate for the coriolis effect. It's a relatively small effect, when in the southern hemisphere smary Africans will rotate the brake 180 to account for the change gyroscopic force or go with the muzzle nut

You just need like 2 more holes in the reciever. Slap on cerokote over the reciever and no one can see those pins. You also can't get the pins out easy, but oh well.

The thing that will give you away is the selector stop.

How effective would reshaping the hammer face and either keeping or dropping the mainspring out be?

So /akg/ I own two AKs one in 5.45 and the other in 7.62x39, Ive been wanting to get a rifle in 5.56 so should I get an AK chambered in it? or just get an AR15?

I have both. Just drop the mainspring. Shit's way too strong, it started to peen my Draco and mak90 too with different hammers respectively

It also peened mine to a point and didn't continue, but I'm not sure if I got lucky or not

A way you could do it is to have a different selector that has the inside part (that sits in the other hole have a spring plate that has detent on the inside of the reciever. So the outside has no detents.

GALIL is best bet for 556 ak, or m76 if you find one.

ARs are fun too.

I said I'll be doing alot of shooting out to 1000 yards with this thing... I don't expect to get close past 600-700 yards but the scope is calibrated for 7n6 / 7n10 out of an ak74m. In theory it should line up properly since I'll be shooting 7n6 and the rifle does shoot 1.5"groups at 100. if the drop does line up properly it'll just be wind drift I'm fighting.

Confirmed either noguns or hasn't been to a 100+ yard range. A 1.5" group at 100 yards is pretty easy to do, even easier when sitting or leaning, easier still when you have a magnified optic like

A 1.5” group isn’t common with AKs dumbfuck most are 3” or 2.5” if you have a good rifle, not to mention the qaulity of 5.45 is usually shit so that doesn’t help either

Being converted already, with a normal receiver and coming with some mags, I would say to jump on it, right now.
It's nicer than a WASR for sure, which can easily for that much and only come with one mag.

what's the headache for getting the front threaded? I remember reading the mak90 doesn't have much to work with.

I want to point out that Polytech Legend AKs are outliers, and were manufactured with the intent of being deluxe AK sporters.
Norinco AKs are not even close to as nice as Polytech Legend, though they're perfectly good rifles on their own merits, nicer than the average WASR.

well, I don't plan to have more ak's (unless the russian sanctions lift), I was thinking something better than a WASR/RH10 since it'll probably be my only AK. It's either the mak90 or so full out go for a Vepr FM at $1300-1400. I know people will say Arsenal, but at $1000+, I'd rather just go saiga/vepr at that point.

No, not really. All it effects is ballistics by having a higher range of velocities leaving the barrel, which will fuck you up in the longer ranges but for short to medium ranges (ala 100 yards) it doesn't mean shit. A convenient excuse for not having good aim or accuracy is really all it is.
