I kept putting off playing these games for years despite having heard about it from Jow Forums non-stop since I first started coming here in 2009. I own all the games but they are now so old I can't even bring myself to install them and play them because of how ancient they are.

idk about him but the graphics aren't really the issue for me. stalker games feel really fucking dated mechanically, and not in like the sorta timeless doom way where everything's still smooth. it's a really clunky shooter.

first playthrough should be vanilla, ZRP is fine for Shadow of Chernobyl though since it's pretty much only bug fixes

you're not missing that much. the original stalker was great because there wasn't a lot choice back then when it came to sandbox style games with a gloomy/post apocalyptic atmosphere. i don't play games anymore, but i'm sure there's a lot more to choose from nowadays, and stalker alone has multiple games in the series.
