-Exotic like fletchette, fragmentation, dragon breath, confetti, and others.
It’s one gun that isn’t the best at one thing but it can do it all.

Shotguns are similarly better for any applicable small game. Its very very ironic that there is a "why do you larp" thread up right now. Hunting is the most popular actual use for firearms, and shotguns dominate.

Putting butts in seats, nothing short of a magnum rifle cartridge will cause as much raw tissue destruction as a load of buckshot. Makes up for imperfect accuracy, you still need to get on target but in the real world the vast majority of people do not possess an anatomically meaningful degree of accuracy. They put shots on the chest area and theres a world of difference between a shot that just hits lung tissue and one that hits the heart or a major blood vessel like the aorta or pulmonary vessels let alone the spine. Shotguns spread makes up for this to a large degree, particularly with higher shot density loads like #4 or #1, they spread a few inches before hitting the target and then continue to spread afterwards. Specialty loads, less lethal and breaching mostly, but not a real concern for most folks. In rabidly liberal areas a wood furniture shotgun seems much less threatening, IIRC at least one study has been done showing that jurors tend to recommend higher sentences when "assault weapons" are involved in a crime.

The real question is what tangible benefit does a rifle offer over a shotgun other than reduced recoil for the terribly recoil sensitive. Needing 30rnds on tap, engaging point targets at 500m, and penetrating body armor are all non factors in the real world.
