Invasive Birds, can I get in trouble for hurting them?

So I live by a lake and recently got a flock of these african faggot gooseduck things that just quack and attack everything. I don't want to just kill them, that would look suspicious, and be loud. I have people living near me, and I'm in California. Instead, I was thinking of capturing them, smashing their bills with a hammer so they can't drink/eat, and letting them go. Is this a good idea? How much jail time would I get for doing this to an invasive species that isn't even heard of in my state?

I know your pain with invasive species, I work in the restoration industry. That's just not right though. Get a pellet gun and shoot them, eat them if they taste good. If not good riddance and good practice.

OP, I am a canada and we have a proven way of dealing with canada geese that might apply here. Get a spray bottle with corn or mineral oil. Locate the nest and wait till parents are gone, then spray the eggs with oil and replace them in the nest. This way they are starved of oxygen and fail to develop. If you smash or remove the eggs the parents will notice and lay more, but if you do the oil thing they can't tell and will waste time.
