Are boresnakes a meme? Some people swear by them and others claim they are entirely useless.
Are boresnakes a meme? Some people swear by them and others claim they are entirely useless
Went to a gun store the other day, some fudd worker told me EVERYONE IS USING BORE SNAKES NOW. All I wanted was a cleaning rod, I got roasted instead.
Great for a quick clean, especially as a way to make sure a bore is nice on a gun you are thinking about buying. Other than that, rod for serious cleaning.
Snakes are perfectly fine for light cleaning
They're fine for field cleaning. Get a three piece or flexible rod with appropriate bits for your caliber firearm for actual cleaning.
I have honestly never used a rod in my life.
depends on how much shooting you do. id say under 300-400 rounds boresnakes work. anything over that they just cant get out the build up.
>Bore snake for 2 cleanings
>3rd with a rod
They work well. They won't get every inch of filth, but they'll do more than enough for most.
Field=Boresnake
>packs nicely away
>no pieces to lose
>light
Bore Rod=Home
>when you gotta put your stick in that bitch like she's an italian virgin.
It's just pull-throughs making a comeback. Personally I think most people use the same one way to often without ever cleaning it. A pull through + disposable patch method would be better but snakes are quick and easy, which is the whole point.
Nice to have in range bag
I honestly hate cleaning my guns, so I much prefer boresnakes to a cleaning rod with patches, but boresnakes can't help with stuck cases.
IF THEY ARE CLEAN they are great.
They are magnets for small bits of grit that can potentially scratch your bore.
I'm personally a fan, best keep it clean though.
how would you clean your boresnake?
The usual recommendation I've seen is to put it in an old sock and run it through washing machine.
jk bro i googled i dont need u cya bitch
wikihow.com
As a person who only allows patches (kept in a sealed bag) a one-way trip down the bore, I don't use them.
ah shit youre too fast. thanks tho user
Do you want to see my boresnake as an example user ;)
Yes
I use mine for light cleaning, but I did have a whole lot of luck using one on my dirty beat to shit M1917s bore. I don't know why, but it worked a bit better than a rod for that dirty old girl.
Found the gold star lesbian
>Using a rod with cleaning rags
>wrap the tip with the rag at the angle of the rifling just like the instructions said
>push rod through
>rag doesn't come out the other end
Cue 15 minutes of me trying to get it out with various different rod attachments. I got it out in the end and my barrel never looked cleaner. 10/10 would do again.
Where do I find a pistol cleaning rod? I have the brushes and patches, but no threaded rod. Never cleaned my pistol barrels lmao.
Didn’t your glock come with one ? Lol
I only shoot .380 and 9mm pistols rn, so I use the rod my Glock came with for both.
you should not clean the bore of your guns. it will make them less accurate. when its dirty its called being "seasoned" and it makes the gun more accurate
They are amazing. I used to hate cleaning my guns, I’d scrub with the brass brush, use solvent, patches and everything, and they would still always be a bit dirty.
Then I buy a bore snake for a few dollars on EBay and one pull through the barrel and it looks like a fucking mirror.
I’m not a bench rest shooter so I’m not too fussed with how clean my barrels are, I just use ballistol on the snake after I’m done shooting, then next time I use it I put the dry snake through to wipe any oil out.
have had 2 my .30 ripped while pulling through my marlin fucking up my range trip my 12 gauge one works alright. get pic related its stronger does more and packs smaller
>you will never stick your hairy bore snake inside a thick girthy barrel
My boomer dad loves them
use a solvent AND a boresnake. finish with ballistol. it's fine.
if it's stupid and it works it's not stupid.
Soaked mine in borescrubber for a day, then left the hose on it for 10m. Hung it on the clothesline after.
I had one break in a barrel and I had to put it in a vise and hammer a rod through then YEET it out with needle nose vise grips. I still use the products though. They're just too convenient.
You run a smaller caliber boresnake through it.
Bore snake is the best way to clean a Winchester levergun barrel.
They're nice for fixed barrel pistols. If you can just slip the barrel out in 5 seconds and use a rod then great. I don't know why anyone would normally need to clean a pistol at the range but I can see autists using them on budget ar15s after their Advanced Auto motor oil wears down shooting steel case.
I'm too set in my ways to even consider a bore snake. What isn't broke isn't gonna get fixed.
:)
I want to edit that page.
>remove firearms references
>shoop out pull strings
>add scared/sad snek faces to pics
If my rod breaks I might try a snake. But I’ve been using a rod for so long it’s just my standard practice at this point.
Cleaning in general is a meme.
Most people clean way too often, which is a complete waste of time.
How does a little bit of jacket or lead scratch a bore?
I don't understand all these "use a rod for a deep clean" memes, my snakes get my barrels clean as a dinner plate
kek'd and check'd
>my snakes get my barrels clean as a dinner plate
Have you run a patch with solvent through your barrel afterwards to check?
I like them because they're easy to use and I'm lazy. Considering the alternative is that I don't clean the barrel at all, I definitely think they're a good product.
Yes and it is totally fine.
bore obstructions waiting to happen
Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time.
I consider them more of guilty cheat than a real way to clean. Some days I come back from the range and wipe the dirt off, bore snake it, and throw them in the safe. But then I always feel guilty later, drink too much and detail strip every gun in the safe.
If you enjoy cleaning you should get your serum testosterone checked.
Similarly if you don't like getting intimate with your rifles you might be a woman.
I only ever use these because I'm a lazy cunt
Yeah they are fucking awesome....If your using them on your paintball gun! lol
Spray 9, it’s an industrial cleaner/degreaser that works great. Let it soak in that for a bit, rinse with hot water, air dry.
I use them on my Henry so I don't have to disassemble the stock and receiver every single I wanna clean the bore.
Or you could just unload and clear the gun, clean with a rod from the front and stop believing that it'll magically load and shoot you by itself.
Kek
I have that exact same cleaning kit
There are clearing buckets for that issue
That's true. But you know what makes you a bigger man? Doing shit you don't want to do, because it needs to be done.
>all these retards who don't know pull throughs with trailing brushes have been used for years
Actual fucking boomer tier. Bore sneks absolutely work, there's no round limit, you can clean them, and you can floss the barrel to clean.
I use whatever was designed for my gun, my Lees and p14 get cleaned with a pull through and flannel cloth. Slav guns came with rods and brushes and everyone else had something in between.
You can't shove a rod down the rear of the barrel without disassembly. Why would I wanna shove it through the muzzle end and brush all the shit into the receiver?
Might as well use sandpaper. Have fun with your fucked accuracy.
Carbon fibre cleaning rod, parker-hale style jag, possum hollow bore guide, and a non-ammonia based cleaner. This method is the only method anyone wanting to maintain their bore should follow.
Toothpick versus Dental Floss, for guns!
The face of autism.
Brass brushes/rods can't damage steel barrels
fuck boresnakes
for my 94 I put the cleaning rod through the front without a patch. attatch a patch in the reciever and pull.
Did some light shooting with a 12 gauge I bought awhile back
When I went to clean it I realized I didn't have any 12 gauge tips for a cleaning rod so my friend lent me his bore snake
Thing is magic for anything where you didn't put too many shots down range
I'd definitely recommend for any light shooting days
>soft brass doesn't get covered in a million bits of embedded debris
Don't worry, wooden bats can't cut you!
they are good but way overpriced for something you can make yourself with $2 and they have a specific use, they are good at a light cleaning/oiling of the bore. they arent going to get rid of heavy copper or lead fouling and they cant help you if you plug your bore but dropping your rifle in the mud. also they get dirty as you use them, and you are basically rubbing all that dirty grease and crud in your chamber and bore over and over again. they are good for something on the go but they have limitations just use them accordingly
>bore guide
thats a meme, you should be cleaning from the chamber to muzzle not the other way around
this is what i use a boresnake for most of the time. its great for cleaning and oiling your 12 gauge if you dont want to buy the dedicated brush and kit set for one. they are smooth bore and fouling is usually pretty light, just some powder residue. mostly using hte boresnake for the oil factor
>overpriced
>can make yourself for $2
I’d like to see you make something exactly the same for $2 worth of effort
Also you can buy an unbranded one for literally $2 online. Identical to the branded ones from what I can tell
You know how I know you don't know what you're talking about?
Go look up what a bore guide does and where it goes you libtard.
thats entirely possible i hear they sell them
>paper patches cant get embedded with debris
best just not clean the gun at all
Oh fuck I thought about it for awhile and I laughed
ND 999
>Brass brushes/rods can't damage steel barrels
They can, but it's a lot more difficult to do and is generally only a problem if you overclean your guns.
Anyone have experience with the Otis rip cord? It looks like an improved bore snake. I'm considering one to clean my single-shot 20 gauge.
Which isn’t cleaning bores, because it hardly ever needs to be done
Duh.
I discovered the boresnake in osut and now forever keep one in my pistol grip. And one in main kit. Clean as a whistle
whaaathefuckareyouretarded?
