I'd say Egypt is definitely among the top of them.
But they aren't "arab" so. Also you might need to define best, as it can mean many things.

CRAACK. I craacked it's mouth open by hitting it's sugar mouth until it broke. I should do this with real middle easterns in REAL LIFE because it's a first person sandbox press e to pick up pipe wrench.

Probably the UAE.
They were noted in Yemen to perform significantly better than their lazy saudi cousins.
Chase Lee
Egypt, then Jordan, then Lebanon. The Saudis are getting massacred by goat farmers in Yemen. The Syrian Army is garbage tier. The Iraqis got better but only after surrendering their arms to ISIS and turning the M4 into the new AK47 of the Middle East. The rest of the armies are literally who? And finally with North Africa, a group of machete wielding bandits on a Toyota Hilux isn't an army
Brody Ward
Isn't it because Saudi Arabia relies heavily on mercenaries?

Id say the saudis are trading man to man with their houthi monkey counterparts.
Plenty of houthis die too but no one cares because the houthis know they have reserves and their troops cost less than the sauds.
Josiah Roberts
Mercs are probably a net boost to the sauds, thats how bad they are.
Their SOF was mentioned as being okay but you cant rely on like 1k soldiers to do all the fighting like what their terrible generals want so their crappy conventional infantry goes in.
They are probably doing worse than they did in Kuwait.
David Wood
The Saudis have a draft army and a culture of top heavy leadership in an effort for the Kings to guard against coups. In the Saudi army you cannot be a general unless you are friends with the Kings. Cuz nonfriends tend to see the inequality in the Kingdom and utilize his troops to overthrow dictators (see: Turkey). So this causes a terrible military culture. Officers hide information and skills so only they know the skill and can use that as leverage for being unfireable. Even calling in the use of aircraft support has to be approved by ranking men as high as generals because the Kings are afraid that the troops might have too much independent course of action. The Saudi kings literally dissolve effective battalions because if they get too effective...well they are a problem now. I would read "War Made New" by Max Boot on why this is important. An army that allows individual soldiers to make huge tactical decisions on the fly (the Corporal is able to order an artillery barrage on targets of opportunity) is the basis of good modern war. And also "How to Stage a Coup" for the explanation on why being a cruel dictator requires your army to be shitty
Joshua Stewart
do you have schizophrenia?
Daniel Rivera
Also quality of education and lifestyle of your major populace. Saudi Arabia is one of the fattest nations on Earth. The economic inequality creates a Kingdom with either Arab Money Rich Saudis or people living in mud huts that cannot even read. So the average Saudi draftee is shit cuz his environment is shit cuz their kings don't give a fuck about them. We even see this problem in the US. The US Army cannot boost its numbers cuz the pool of applicants is becoming shitty.

I don't think the problem with recruitment is exclusive to USA and Saudi Arabia. Sweden, Russia and China have those problem. I don't know which country can efficiently recruit good people to their armies without any issues right now.

Germany is so desperate that they are taking foreigners. Straight up Legion tier recruitment of foreigners. They got rid of conscription and then had to fire their first wave of applicants cuz they were all neonazis. Then they tried doing integrated units with other NATO nations, and now here they are voting on taking in foreigners.
Aiden Watson
Europe is still not a country. And we're still whiter than your young 56% nation.

Sweden had conscription but had it removed. Now it has limited conscription and still has problems filling positions in the armed forces with competent personnel. Swedish politicians and journalists complain that not enough women are joining the military.

egypt , jordan , lebanon , morroco maybe iraq ? im not sure about iraq desu
the four countries i posted have good experience to say the least
morroco has litteral american style firebases al allong the saharan border keeping insurgents out and has been fighting there for decades
saudis have good equipment but are very cocky

That's because their army's ads look like trailers to horror movies. They have that "I hate the army cuz it is too fashy and against my basedboy beliefs" attitude. "We don't want to glorify war! I'm too much of a cuck to want to slay bodies and take names!"
Tyler Thompson
Story nigger. What Army are you even in? Were you fighting Tuareg, Malians, Libyans? Remember good opsec but how is Morrocan army like?

French army, was near Ansongo during Barkhane
iirc they were para regiment have been in contact with them allot while we were here. It was more personal for them because it was the equivalent of having a war in poland if you are french so i understand while they wanted troops there.
Being northern african they mostly had good contacts with the locals (10x better then us) but they were genuine pipe hitters.
There was nothing they didnt want to do (the lower ranks atleast).
Go stay on that hill the entire night with NVG's from the 70's with no jacket and a talkie walkie
>sure , no problem!
Patrol in tin not armored at all spanish Humvees knock offs (while EU troops all had MRAPS)
>No problem!
They really had it badly equipment wise, they all had stuff from the 90's but thankfully they always had their own ammo and logistical equipment (Not like the Dutch lol) they were entirely self dependent
had some colleagues in the french army and the belgian army who were third or second generation morrocan immigrants so the contact was very good but thank god the officers and NCOs knew how to speak french because they had the worst english i ever heard
have a few stories with them if you are interested
excuse the bad grammar

Only because America is Israel's military.

Norway is doing fine. Combines conscription for the regular forces with enlistment for specialist functions, officers, foreign-mission units and special forces. Both men and women are called in for conscription service but supply far outruns need so only the best and most motivated actually serve. Enlisted are paid well and every open position is severely competed for.
Not saying that we are the best at anything. Bur recruiting is not an issue.
Kayden Murphy
I would say french seriously
Zachary Foster
You can't have recruitment problems when you keep a pathetic expeditionary army with barely 12,000 professional troops (2.3 per 1,000)- which is a very low ratio (compared to the US's 4 per 1,000, Russia's ~6 per 1,000 or Saudi's ~8 to 10 per 1,000).
Bentley Sanchez
Has Syria gotten any better because of the Civil War or are they still shit?
Jack Sullivan
What, you think we are incapable of invading and occupying Sweden any time we feel like?
Josiah Parker
Sweden here. We have issues with soldiers who have served at least 3 years or more and are not paid enough. Many have to get additional jobs or part-time work in order to stay in the armed forces. There's a reason why many are quitting the force he or simply fucking off after basic training.
Asher Sanders
The point is that smaller armies (per capita) don't have recruitment problems because they have to recruit less people per capita and can thus be picky. For every man Norway has to recruit from its population as a professional soldier, the US has to recruit 2.
The SAA is definitely better in terms of morale and doctrine than it was in 2011 (half the army deserted in the 2011-13 period). They also have better equipment in selecte units. This being said, the country can't really handle any more warfare and will have to deal with decades of low-level insurgency. Syria is also sandwiched between Israel and Turkey, meaning they'll always be outclassed militarily.

unironically the Egyptian army is bigger, has more resources, and is better trained than the current UK army. I've heard that PMCs from Australia, UK and USA are in UAE and/or Saudi Arabia. What's that about? Are they actively taking part in Yemen?
Colton Wood
Probably base guys. There's a million tasks to deal with once the base gets big enough and you can't hire locals. Bunch of Australians won't cut your throat or piss in your soup. Not unless you have pissed them off first.

They have gotten worse.
Materiel losses have been massive and what replacements Syria has gotten have mostly been old T-62s and BMPs that Russia couldn't sell anymore. The chain of command is now an absolute mess with militia, forces loyal to the local strongman, government troops and mercenaries all involved. There are very few units left is the SAA proper with any real strength and mobility, most government forces are only good for defensive action. The main problem is manpower. Most of the fit young men have either left or joined up with a group that pays better then the SAA, it certainly does not help that rampant corruption lets people buy their way out of service. These issues are best shown by the SAA 5th Corp, a unit stood up with Russian assistance to help give Damascus more power, old men and old weapons.
Hardly a force capable of conventional action.

Trained Jordanian LTs.
They had a surprising cross section and demographic for being an Arab officer corps. Had your stereotypical "rich, daddy's first son who's mayor of the capital" as well as kid who was dirt poor but passed the tests and their system recognized he was quality.
Being military is extremely prestigious, due in part to their king and son being in the military. There's a lot of pride, and they will actually train when they're feeling up to it. They have their moments of Afghan/Iraqi laziness, but for the most part I was pleasantly surprised.
Fun fact, they have marines. Story goes the king saw the us marine silent drill team, then said "I want that". I'm army but we had marines at the same local; all the Jordanian officers were interested in was drill and ceremony lol- the us marines were livid and so confused.
Nathaniel Hughes

The Syrians got their asses handed to them by both the Kurds and ISIS in multiple battles. Also the Kurds aren't communist, they have their own ideology which is basically anti big government and anti globalism.
Evan Howard
>High tier
Egypt, #1 overall, no question. Their deficiency in being able to pay the US obscene amounts of money for toys is more than made up in both quantity and quality of their troops, and their equipment is nothing to sneeze at.
Oman: good, only ones that might be better than Egypt pound-for-pound, but very small. FWIW their ruler is also one of the best diplomats alive right now, so they don't have UAE-style worries about bullshit with their neighbors.
Iraq: lots of combat experience and good equipment, even if overall competence is meh.
>OK tier
Lebanon: crappy equipment but decent morale, and some of their units have rotated through fighting in Syria without having had to absorb serious losses
Syria: on the one hand, they're badly depleted by the war. On the other hand, the war has weeded out a lot of the deadweight and ruled out a catatrophic collapse, something which can't be said of the lower-tier militaries. They've repeatedly shown they know how to use their third-rate gear to maximum effect when up against the wall. The Ukrainians of the ME.
Jordan: Probably better than Saudi and nearly as many toys. Wild card because of complete lack of serious combat operations.
>Meh tier
Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Djibouti
All marginally competent armies mostly concerned with internal defense and enough firepower to prevent each other from invading.
>Shitting on Instagram sluts tier
Saudi Arabia: pervasively incompetent from individual soldiers up to flag officers. Buys fuckloads of cool toys from the US, then has to pay foreigners to maintain, move, and use them. Wild card: Saudi grand strategists do have a clue, and know how to use their purchased standoff capability and numbers to grind down opponents. The silverback alpha gorilla of the shit tier.
UAE: a miniature saudi arabia
Bahrain: a poorer UAE
Kuwait: a Bahrain that has stopped caring
>nigger tier
Sudan, Somalia: pickups full of niggers
Liam Moore
Bump
Lucas Bennett
Where do these armies stand in an international ranking? For example Egypt versus the IDF, etc.
Sebastian Gomez
International rankings are hard/pointless because none of these are expeditionary/great power armies. These armies are all intended to fighting from contiguous territory in one environment. So a comparison between e.g. Egypt and Austria or Syria and Brazil is basically meaningless except by analogy. But I'll make some analogies:
Syria is like Ukraine, a relatively poor nation that turned in a better-than-expected performance in a serious war.
Egypt is like Thailand or Colombia, a US-leaning second-tier regional power with a lot of internal problems with a slightly corrupt/politicized but ultimately competent and well-run army.
Oman is like Singapore, a tiny state that carefully manages its relationships and has to pack a serious punch for its size to avoid gratuitous fuckery.
Also -- with the exception of Syria and Iraq which is why I rated them so high -- they don't have experience and may not be cut out for urban warfare. The Egyptians have thought about this and trained somewhat for it, the Omanis haven't because they don't really need to.
Egypt ultimately can't compete with the IDF because of the IDF's air superiority. Egypt is also lacking in air defense. If you exclude those two things I think Egypt's numbers make up for Israel's quality, especially since Egypt doesn't rely as heavily on reserve mobilization as Israel, But you can't exclude those two things so Egypt loses.
Samuel Walker
no, it's because all of their generals are promoted based off of loyalty to the monarchy and not by actual merit. this is because the Saudi monarchy is too scared of a coup to actually have decent generals who can think outside the box. also they barely ever use different kinds of troops in tandem with each other (for example in Yemen you can see their Abrams tanks getting blown up by 1 Houthi raghead with an RPG 7 because they have no infantry support accompanying the armor).
Benjamin Flores
>kurds
>communist
>defeated by Assad
go back to /sg/
in all reality though the SAA isn't terrible it just has a pretty mediocre conscript army and the funding is somewhat lackluster, and generally they still struggle to hold up against ragheads who fight with little more than cheap weapons and IED's.
Oliver Taylor
/thread
They are merely different shades of terminally incompetent.
Jace Robinson
>Saudi grand strategists do have a clue, and know how to use their purchased standoff capability and numbers to grind down opponents. The silverback alpha gorilla of the shit tier.
Isnt that a given when you have that much money. Considering the Houthis keep beating them in battles even when they're literally barefoot goatherders. If they werent able to even apply their superior everything then i'd be concerned, this is barely meeting the minimum standard.
Wyatt Kelly
>International ranking Egypt vs IDF
How about the three wars the Egyptians lost to the IDF this last 5 decades? Does that count as an international ranking? Do you need a better example of which army is better except they fought each other several times and one lost while the other won by a landslide? The six day war, a fucking massive land invasion that lasted 6 days before the Israelis won. The kikes have the best army in the business. They basically have taken over Palestine. Syria is too fucked to even care anymore. Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, the UAE, and Jordan are all dancing to the US fiddle to keep that sweet US mlitary aid coming. Lebanon is too busy trying to stop the Syrian shitshow from leaking into their nation. Israel won against all of these nations in previous wars and have now won strategically against all of them.
Adam Wright
International Ranking is kinda stupid
Pakistan trains and supplies majority of Gulf Arab armies and also they frequency use paki troops
Pakistan on Global firepower is still ranked lower then those same Gulf Nations they train
