so I bought one of these impact sports to use at my range because the earmuffs they have there are worn and disgusting but I have noticed that they are insufficient even with 22lr
I have tried stuffing them with studio foam but it's still not enough
Double up with plugs, impact sports have a pretty fucking low db reduction rate.
Christian Bell
its most likely because the cups are not sealing around your ears, letting noise in. everyone praises the Hl impacts but i dont wear them anymore for the same reason, they just dont fit my fat head. if you want to keep this pair, you could try gel cup replacements. the gell makes it much more comfortable to wear and conforms much better than the stiff cups that come with the impacts. another much cheaper option is just wear foam ear plugs under the impacts
Jonathan Wright
I use these and comfortably shoot my HK91 without additional ear plugs. Maybe you just have nancy boy ears.
Carson Allen
You're damaging your hearing.
Always use doubled hearing protection. OP, get the Noisefighter cups. The factory cups on the Impact Sports don't seal for shit so you don't even get the rated attenuation of ~30dB(don't pay attention to NRR).
Adam Watson
I do aircraft engine runs and op ones are fine for shooting, stop being a little bitch
Brayden Gonzalez
>EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Andrew Morris
I am not sure the seal is the problem but I guess I'll try 's NF cups anyway
Noah Howard
Whatever, deafboy. I'm not going to listen to some blue collar retard over hearing researchers. I can almost guarantee it is unless you have a literally cube shaped head.
Cameron James
i would first try plugs under the muffs and see how you like that.
Asher Rodriguez
Yeah I mainly wear mine because I can't hear shit with foam plugs or the custom fit gel ones.
Joshua Bailey
>YER NOT TUFF IF YOU DON'T LIKE GETTIN' PER-MAN-ANT HEARIN' DAMAGE!
Such a man. I bet the ladies love it when you tell them about that time you sucked your own dick to get venom out of it instead of going to a hospital too.
Ian Fisher
Double up on the orange disposable earplugs but desu I always thought that when shooting outdoors the IS were enough. I bought a pair of pic related at Walmart for like 18 bucks and they're honestly a lot more convenient than the ISs.
good hearing protection is worth the money. you spend hundreds, if not thousands on guns and ammo, dont cheap out with the ear pro
Oliver Ortiz
Impact Sports aren't great, double yo ass up.
Lincoln Watson
Doubling up is dumb. Earplugs work much better than muffs if used correctly. Why even bother with the muffs at that point. All they will do is hit the stock.
Blake Hall
Active ear pro does not work at indoor. Just get a set of these and you're done. They're like $15
NIOSH disagrees with you. >Active ear pro does not work at indoor. Yea, they do.
Aaron Adams
Yeah find someone that gets ear plugs for free at work. My buddy gave me a box of like 50. I have real slim cheap muffs that protect when pressed firmly on my head, not so much with my bug head and big ears. I'd advise Get plugs AND better muffs, and return those shits. Don't be frugal with eye and ear protection
Grayson Baker
What do you mean? It's a simple microphone that goes to a speaker. It can't amplify a gunshot or even replicate the percussion. They work everywhere. They're simple.
James Lee
Ya'll motherfuckers don't know how to use shit or something. Mine work fine.
buy some that are good for drumming. they tend to have a bigger buffer (for between sking and hard plastics), but if you dont want to buy double you can try plugs with those you have bought. also check wheter they are actually sealing up properly, maybe its just a 'you have a weird jaw muscle'-thing.
Mason Murphy
Double up or find something else that would fit your ears better, since you're either extra sensitive or have unusual head shape. I've been using these more than a year now with no problems, mostly indoor ranges.
Adrian Bell
the reason I think that it's not because of the seal is because when I press them against my head the noice doesn't get less... it stays the same
Oliver Parker
>You're damaging your hearing. Always use doubled hearing protection.
Just use some earplugs with them. Works perfectly.
Austin Ortiz
saves on cleanup
Christopher Scott
I don't trust them because they refuse to make their attenuation charts publicly available. If you can find one, I'd like to see.
Jayden Morris
This. Why is the thread still up? It was answered in the first reply, over 5 hours ago.
Blake Russell
Dont be a bitch and poke your eardrums out. Spending money on ear accesories is for WOMEN.
Benjamin Moore
>but I have noticed that they are insufficient even with 22lr 'the fuck? I can shoot my AR indoors with just those on and it's fine. I use Noisefighters gel cups, but that's it.
Oliver Collins
did you turn them on?
Jayden Barnes
The protection part isn't electronic.
Evan Rodriguez
try a new pair of ear pro, OP. Hl impacts are thin and ive found them to be subpar
Ayden Reyes
I have that same model, and they are garbage. You will definitely need to use ear plugs with them, which pretty much defeats the electronic benefit.
Do yourself a favor before you go deaf, and toss them in the garbage.
Ethan Reyes
WHAT
Robert Bennett
Just use harbor freight electronic ears. Use a coupon. Works magic.
Hunter Walker
Howard Leight is fantastic. I have a few pairs, my dad used to get them free from work because machinery.
Ayden Butler
>which pretty much defeats the electronic benefit. No, just turn the volume up.
Camden Sanders
Get some Surefire plugs or splurge on some custom ones. Over-the-ear protection is dogshit for shooting sports.
Blake Brown
They actually just clamp vs attenuate... you are deaf for like 3 seconds... That said, I always wear ear plugs when shooting rifles and save the muffs for pistols and weedeating...
Andrew Garcia
do you have to plug them often? I have thought about these since I can't get cheek weld with anything but plugs and I bought a shit ton of 3M yellow plugs that work great.
Charles Gutierrez
Those are only have an NRR of 22. The bulky ear muffs will almost certainly give you an NRR of 32. Simple solution. Double up. Use ear plugs too.
Julian Jenkins
you bought Meme Muffs!
Jacob Thomas
Came here to say this. The slim line ones seal really poorly, and as a guy who wears glasses, they're a pain in the dick. I literally cannot turn my head while the range is hot, or they'll unseal.
I still use them, though. The amplification is useful and I don't shoot enough to justify more than $40 spent on earpro.
Jacob Thompson
NRR doesn't matter for shooting.
Aaron Johnson
Different poster from OP, but this is my exact problem with them. They're fine when worn by themselves but with eye pro they easily break their seal.
Valholl Gear Replacement Gel Cups for HL Impact Sport and Sync Headphones (erased Amazon link)
Is there another option or should I just go with these? I prefer the electronic ones in theory since they're hanging on my HD shotgun if I have the time to put them on.
Samuel Ross
You can crank up the volume on the e-muffs to hold a normal conversation while still wearing plugs, but still have double protection for not only a total sound decrease but also in case the muffs cup comes unsealed at the worst possible time.
Xavier Lee
This
Anthony Hill
Comfortable, battery lasts a long time. Work just like any other muff in that price range. They are mono only, if that matters. Got mine for $25 on sale, so it was well worth it. I can use them without plugs on most occasions because they seal well and are snug but comfy.
Joshua Turner
noisefighters are supposedly great. they have a channel "groove" for eye pro. i just got 3m gel cups for my headphones but im thinking of getting these as well noisefighters.com/
Carter Powell
would you recommend a specific e-muff?
Joseph Morales
Man, you weren't right about literally a single thing in your post.
Wyatt Sullivan
Wut Where do you fucking retards come up with this shit? NRR is a misleading number, yes. But it absolutely matters. Fucking christ
Nicholas Walker
>Where do you fucking retards come up with this shit? NIOSH? It's not applicable to shooting. It doesn't matter because it's meaningless for this application.
Jacob Morris
[Citation fucking needed] There's literally no reason noise reduction rating wouldn't be applicable when talking about reducing noise from guns.
Leo King
Quit being a bitch! I use cigarette filters with my .308, you nancy
Matthew Gray
I use the congealed blood of my targets, faggot.
Justin Myers
>I don't know what NRR even is Ok bud, you could have just said that.
Kayden Campbell
NRR is literally noise reduction rating.
Owen Scott
I literally went shooting on saturday wearing them and they were just fine. Shot 12ga, .223, 9mm, and .44
>Run chainsaws professionally >Work gives us annual hearing tests >have tinnitus >even after a lifetime of punk rock, guns, loud engines, and running power tools, haven't deviated from my baseline and am considered to have experienced no hearing loss. I use Surefire EP4s with the cover open while running saws, and wear HLs with aftermarket gel cups when shooting.
Nolan Ross
>3M 90543-4DC WorkTunes Connect Hearing Protector with Bluetooth Technology Fucking love these things. Sound quality is superb, answer phone calls on the fly, protect your hearing from even a .308, 8mm, or 12ga. >listen to your tunes >blow shit up >perfect Saturday
Go look up how it's derived. Maybe then you'll understand why it isn't useful for impulse noise.
Jose White
let me guess, you shoot them outdoors?
Noah Baker
Nrr isn't an accurate way to measure reduction of noise for impulses, but a higher nrr will still reduce more noise from impulses. Like I said to begin with, nrr is a misleading number, but it does matter.
Jack Gray
This is the true purpose of electronic earpro.
Ryder Reed
It is useful for side by side comparisons.
Carson Fisher
yes >going to an indoor range
Jackson Martinez
Anyone here have a pair of Peltor Sport Tactical 100/300? I am looking to get a pair of 300s because they look better than the Walkers.
Henry Stewart
This. indoor ranges are fucking shit. Literally haven't been back to one since shooting outdoors for the first time like 6 years ago.
Andrew Robinson
I got my tac 100's a couple months ago, haven't been able to go outdoor shooting with them, but paired with some sf ep4's (like not the foam tips ) They work great indoors but I'm gonna order some noisefighter cups because trying to fit glasses with any muffs is suck
Alexander Watson
ya i have a pair that i was going to use for shooting but i havent been to the range in a long ass time so i just ended up using for work they work fine for saws and shit and being able to hear with out taking them off. i honestly thing that is a better application for them then the range.
