Purely hypothetical question here, with details: in Oregon, the police aren't requiring you to go to an FFL personnel to transfer a gun to someone else, meaning that private party sales are tolerated. Not by law, of course, but no one is enforcing it. Now, hypothetically, a friend of mine may have purchased a rifle from someone privately. My friend called the authorities beforehand to have the serial numbers searched, and it came out clean. However, since my friend lives in a small town, he heard rumors that the rifle was indeed stolen, just apparently never reported. What would or should you do in this hypothetical situation?
