Anyone carry Tokarevs or can give me info on them? I’ve been offered a Yugo contract one for an sks I’ve got, but I know shit about them. Are they reliable? Accurate? Any personal testimonials? Pic related. My sks

Yugo tokarevs are relatively reliable guns in a fun caliber imo. However, ruski SKSes (which from pic is what I assume you have) are steadily getting more rare and desirable and are definitely worth more than your average M57. IIRC yugo toks were going for about 200 bucks on classic recently. Meanwhile it's not unusual to see russian SKSes go for at least twice that.
Seems like a ripoff to me unless you're really itching for a 7.62x25

Tokarev's were 7 +1 pistols fielded by Russia in WWII, In the 50s the Yugo's - AKA Zastava made the Model 57. They have a longer grip, and hold 8 +1. Classic Firearms has Very good ones for sale right now. I have one, and love it. the 7.62x25 is a great cartridge. more to follow

Would either of you trust one to carry? I’ve got a makarov now, but if I get a pistol, I’m gonna end up carrying it at some point

SA so I would advise against it.

Gotcha. I’ve just been wanting to scratch an itch and buy one, and this one just stumbled into me. Thanks

I like the Thinness of it, and the Caliber, and I have found holsters... Mine has no safety, it has the crappy Glock like trigger, that they installed instead of the safety (import Regulations) The Tokarev has a half cock notch, (like a .30-.30), which is the safety, although I hear it may still go off if dropped hard. Cocking the hammer adds another step to the draw, and action is faster than reaction...so, it would not be my 1st choice for carry. With that said, I LOVE this pistol, and wish I had stumbled on it years earlier

I have heard of people CC'ing Makarov's, but I'm not crazy about the caliber... Although, I just found out they make Hornaday Critical Defense rounds in 9x18

I love mine. Mine is a baikal. I’m going to buy one of those grips from FAB Defense that doubles as an adapter for a normal side release.

OP, don't take the deal. Keep the sks and just go buy a Tok if you really want one.
Zastava M57s are sitting around $250, and Romanian TTCs can be found even cheaper and are all C&R eligible.
Your Mak is also a better option for ccing imo

Toks are cheap as fuck while SKS rifles are creeping to 400 and up regularly

Very bad deal, toks are cheap rn and will continue to be so and SKSs are getting rarer and rarer, especially non bubbad ones like yours.

That being said, I highly reccomend you get a tokarev if youre interested. New zastavas with their shitty glocklike trigger are gayer than aids and dont have half cock safety (the proper way to carry if youre not jewish) but theres plenty of quality romanian, old zastavas, and norinco type 54s out there that are all very excellent handguns. Sleek design thats easy to conceal for a full size, good ergos, usually a god tier trigger for milsurp, and 7.62x25 is a fucking great cartridge, light recoil but hits harder than a 45.

Thanks for the info. I’ve always wanted one, but I know literally fuck all about them

fpbp

Id only make the trade if your gook rifle is fucked up looking and the trade is a Polish Wz-33, with all the accessories

I realize that nobody can really tell how the gun market is going to move, but would someone with more experience buying milsurp tell me if Toks are forecasted to stay around $200? I recently bought a gun and don't have the money to throw at another one, but if Toks remain at the $200 mark, I would love to pick one up in a year when I have the disposable assets

I just saw your ad on armslist! I sent a text

hes got one on craigslist under m4m also

In a year they won't move much, but they're milsurps of a limited supply and they will eventually rise in price.

>Yugo tokarevs are relatively reliable guns in a fun caliber imo
no, not at all
First off, 7.62x25 is more expensive and harder to find than 9mm by a factor of 2-3x.
Next, the 10 pound trigger pull and no single action just plain suck.s
Finally I find the single stack mags jam more often.

I've heard there exist barrel swap outs for 9mm and 38 super but they're as rare as diamonds. Might as well buy a CZ.

>no single action

a-user the tokarev is a single action design known for having an incredibly light trigger, I think youre mistaken. My toks trigger is lighter than most SA revolvers...

I used to carry a 1942 Russian Tok in a shitty vertical shoulder rig. It will do the job, but it is heavy for a single stack, lacks a “proper” safety, x25 WILL overpenetrate, and it just isn’t a great CCW. That said, you want one in your collection, and the M57 is a fine example. But get a Mak if you want to CC with it.
