Turner diaries has constant violence against "race traitors" and other nonsense.

If you like this type of drivel James Wesley Rawles might be up your alley. I only read Patriots but I thought it had some good info section split between nonsense. My favorite was a couple of guys with copies of communist manifesto and bits of babies they've been eating. Literally baby eating communists...

KD rebel is more nonsense but I liked it because of the norse mythology aspect (It posits Christianity was created by the Jews to control whites and that the only true white religion is the Norse Gods).

Lucifer's Hammer (meteor strike) and One Second After (EMP) are pretty good SHTF books.

For a totally different take on it the "Dies the Fire" series is fun. Basically all technology stops working (gunpowder and electricity). Its goofy and in the first book it seemed like we was intent on converting you to being wican but still fun.

I enjoy SHTF fiction but when its too focused on racism, religion, or anti government it just gets tiring. I don't want it to be some white christian libertarian power fantasy.

I have nothing to say about Turner diaries. After reading Devil's Guard about the "real," story about the SS brigade of the French Foreign Legion, I don't really care for crypto nazi role-playing books. That thing was a real hunk of shit, and it came right after I read Storm of Steel, so it was just blatantly obnoxious with how shittily it was written.

The first one is pretty damn good, villains are a bit too heavy-handed but overall it feels plausible. Has an excellent scene involving a Mosin in particular. Second one is okay, third one devolves into retardation as a not!Obama uses Cossack mercs to slaughter people in Tennessee and dumb stuff like that.

Henry Bowman and Cindy aren't boyfriend and girlfriend, the latter is explicitly a lesbian. I agree there's some weird stuff in Unintended Consequences, but the meticulous attention to shooting details and some fantastic bits (the ATF vs. varmint rifle scene is my favorite) make it worth the read.

Rawles is more fun than not, but I read his books as a guilty pleasure. The first one is rough going, but the sequels are all entertaining in a dumb way (I haven't read all of them, think I'm missing one).

Like, more than one of his books have started with XYZ character a zillion miles from home and the premise is them doing a long string of plausible-but-insane shit to get back. There's a couple of flat or tone-deaf paragraphs here or there and Rawles is fundamentally not a strong writer, but it's fun and the situations he puts his characters through are wild. His full-power cartridge fetish is goofy in a good way.

Armor is a guilty pleasure read too. I'm rereading it now, first read it in college. It's not high art, but it's not terrible.

I didn't care that much for Lucifer's Hammer, it turned into a slog by the end. I don't think it aged all that well. Worth reading but I wasn't thrilled.

Directive 51 series by John Barnes was a different-ish read. Higher concept than most SHTF material, execution is uneven. The end of the third book was the definition of "lol wut" and it dragged in spots but whatever, I was willing to roll with him for the most part.

It's been a decade or more since I read it, I just don't recall. That book was ridiculous that seen included, though I do remember laughing about him feeding the pigs.

I'll check those out. Lucifer's Hammer made me want a travelall wagon. The end is a little much (astronauts landing and such) but I think there's a lot of good prepper ideas about books and stuff to keep. I could have done without that rapist guy in the beginning.

The Ashes series by william johnstone is pretty good

Takes place in post-apocalyptic 1980s US after Workd War 3 breaks out. Protagonist is some ex-special forces soldier who travels across the country fighting bandits, cannibals, Russian paratroopers, warlords, etc while helping out small communities by teaching them basic military tactics and training
