my question is why tf aren't magazine fed shotguns more prevalent/ popular

gimmi a min im about to dump some pics

Mag fed shotguns are great until you run out of mags or it shatters. Pump guns with no mag are more reliable

So I have been researching a bit mag fed shottys, but im pretty new to shopping so i don't have any kind of geneneral idea about whats good or bad or overpriced or legal or illegal or import banned or anything like that.

Attached: Saiga 20.jpg (4300x1620, 784K)

I initially learned of the Saiga 12, 20, and 410. and then learned about import ban on them which makes their cost (i assume) artificially inflated.

Attached: Saiga 12.jpg (2959x1432, 506K)

after learning of the stupid ban and pricing them on gunbroker(not too bad, but id rather acquire a new stock unmolested one, then molest it myself) i began looking into other models

Attached: VEPR-12.jpg (1824x600, 81K)

so really the reason i wanted this thread to exist was i wanted people to have a place to discuss shottys, and in particular, mag fed shottys.

Attached: SKO-12.jpg (4928x3264, 3.24M)

I already have pump action 410, 20, and 12 gauges, but the 410 and 20 are kinda antiques, and the 12 is an 870 tactical, which is a great home defense gun, but not really appealing to take to the range and just dump ammo through it for fun.

Can you guys recommend me some mag fed shotty in each size? id like to spend around 500ish per, but i can flex a bit.

so uh... we got a scatter gat discord?

fuck off back to your illegal sawed off thread, mr atf.

so uh... we got a shotgun discord?

Fostech shotties are fucking expensive but they seem like they live up to their hype.

By this logic why isn't everybody using lever action rifles then

Fucking tard

Shotshells are different from a rifle cartridge in that they're not completely rigid. If you stack a bunch and put them under spring tension it gets tricky to obtain reliable operation. Especially if you leave magazines loaded, shotshells will deform over time.

Not saying a mag-fed shotgun is always unreliable, but it's not a straight conversion.

so, brass shells?

yeah and a bolt action m1903 springfield is more reliable than a garand right

What's your point?

Attached: dDHgxuz.png (756x611, 114K)

Full brass shotshells are expensive as hell and might help, but keep in mind a shotshell is a completely straight walled cartridge so feeding is an exact affair.

Most pistol and rifle cartridges have a slight taper to accomodate this but a shotshell is just a big fat cylinder with a rim.

refer to that sawed off pic, 3 of those look like solid brass, possibly reloads. doesn't look that bad. and there are shotshell reloading devices, surely they can be used for every step except the recloseding the end?

So, realistically, what's about the best accuracy you can get out of a rifled shotgun? I've heard anywhere from 1 Inch at 100 yds to minute of pie plate. Anyone shoot slugs that can shed a little light?

interesting question and id like to expand upon it.

besides slugs, does shooting other rounds out of a rifled barrel have any other effects? like will buck or bird shot keep a tighter pattern, or will they wear down the rifling?

Daily reminder that AR’s are far more suitable for home defense and pretty much EVERYTHING else. You fudds go ahead and keep toying with your obsolete weapons platform while us superior individuals will proceed to keep training with our superior weapons.

>kill intruder
>and guy and his chick fucking in shower accross street
>and kid in the house behind his

sometimes you only need to have a kill range of a few yards.

Rifling will most likely cause your pattern to open up.
Not sure on wear. Probably negligible, but shot wize, velocity, and material would all be factors.

you're probably right, AR's probably are overall better, especially with a silencer, but no need to be so autistic about it. shotguns aren't "obsolete" considering just how much firepower they bring. 6-8 rounds of 00 buck could be upwards of 48-72 .330 caliber pellets that can be fired out of one mag. Compared to a typical 30 rounds of .223. Which is deadlier? not that relevant, since you probably wouldn't be shooting that many rounds anyways in a typical home defense situation. Both are incredibly deadly. But it's foolish to consider a weapon that can dish out that much firepower as "obsolete".

slightly inferior? probably. obsolete? nonsense.

shotguns can overpenetrate just as much as an AR depending on the round. Paul Harrell did some videos showing him shooting through like 12 layers of drywall, basically, there isn't much of a significant difference in penetration between 5.56, 00 buck, 9mm, etc. the only significant reduction in penetration came from 22LR, and from using birdshot.

That's not a coach gun. Coach guns have exposed hammers.

How tough are mossy?

I bought one (590A1) and when dry firing it before taking it out to the range. I noticed the safety creeping, and eventually self engaging. Great; send it back and have it fixed; it comes back and does good on the first range trip. Haven't shot anything really heavy in it yet but hopefully it continues working as it is. Pretty happy; get another one (breacher model). Dissemble, clean, and go dry fire. Everything seems fine, except when I go to cycle (not shoot; I dry cycle every new gun I get to test basic function with the extractors and such) shells start getting hard and harder to feed and eventually won't leave the tube. Think its the shell stop; sent it out and haven't gotten it back. Is it me? Followed the manual and I work with PC hardware so I'm sure I'm not manhandling it but two duds in a row....

Excuse the shitty grammar; got off a bunch of overtime and am tired.

Can't believe it either left the factory like this; or wore like this so quickly.

>only gun to pass the 3000 round test with no failure
Don't worry

soon

everything you just said was wrong
I AD'd my AR15 inside of my apartment last year with M855 ball ammo and it barely penetrated my couch before it stopped dead.

That is what I'm hoping for; just a bit of bad luck. I'm sure it happens, but time will tell. Still more scared of getting a new remington.

A 1965 I bought for 300$

Don't like the diagonal cutouts and I think the barrel (muzzle device? no ones taken one apart to my knowledge) looks a bit off, but overall looks pretty futuristic and is legal (to the best of my knowledge) in commiefornia. That is a lot of firepower for this state.

The best shotgun, I bet it’s action is as smooth as glass, please just leave it how it is and enjoy it

Buddy, you best NEVER buy a new remington. Those 870 wingmasters are utter dogshit since at least 7 years ago.

>looks pretty futuristic
Entirely the reason I'm buying one, looks like something you could storm LV-426 with.

Why aren't drum mags more popular? Drums have cartridges in individual sections or whatever which means no forces on them.

I wish for a mag fed auto 5. You may not like it but this is what peak semi auto looks like.

>literally the most practical gun any person can own
>LARPers can't stop jerking off to thier ar
Lol.

For sure; now if only mossberg made a modern 930 SPX. It's like they did the bare minimum to turn a hunting semi auto into a tactical one. It really needs an upgrade imo; spacers for less LOP; a slimmer, less giant forend (personal preference); options for weapon light near the muzzle are what I'm sort of looking for. Waiting until the next shotshow to see what other semi autos come out.

I already have a maverick 88 I decided to fuck with if I want a modded beater. I just wanted the 870 because muh benis

drums are big, heavy and more expensive than box mags and for some peoples purposes the extra rounds are completely unnecessary
