How reliable are these 9mm meme ARs?
I see all these exotic compact PDW stocks, proprietary side charging uppers, and a mix of different magazine formats. How well do all these different parts actually come together?

I'd honestly not bother with that and just get a tailor made smg
So they're unreliable?
Depends on who puts it together. They're hard to get right but I've seen some that are running 100%, most are lacking. Generally they'll either take Glock mags or Colt SMG mags.
>that .223 size ejection port
gross
How about higher-end niche mfgs, like Quarter Circle 10? They seem to specialize in 9mm Ars.
Buy a fucking used uzi for the same price
Same weight
10 inch barrel but much more compact
Actually fucking works all the time
Also noting that Noveske's Ghettoblaster seems to take H&K mags
>Same weight
Have you ever held an UZI carbine? They're heavy as fuck, like 8 1/2lbs. A 9mm AR is around 6lbs. Uzi's use a heavy 2mm stamping, it's over twice as thick as an AK.
>Have you ever held an UZI carbine? They're heavy as fuck
Yeah... but it's an UZI. The sheer coolness cancels out the weight.
>cocking tab breaks
My $600 PSA AR9 pistol runs perfectly.
But it is a bitch to reload. Getting the magazine to lock in is nowhere near as easy as a normal AR. I keep it in my dresser and it has been doing a great job sitting there.
That uses Glock mags right? Why don't you try removing a round or two from the mag, so it seats easier?
It's still noticeably worse than my rifle. It's not a deal breaker but it would be annoying if someone was trying to build a race gun and ran into that.
Piecemeal 9mm ARs are notoriously unreliable*, especially when you start using super short buffer tubes, mixing brands of parts and use low-tier clips.
That said, there are enough solutions to get any 9mm AR working flawlessly, it just takes time and money.
If all you wanna do is shoot 9mm out of the box, buy a complete rifle with a warranty.
*this doesn't mean that every piecemeal 9mm AR is unreliable.
I get the feeling that all these sbr and arm brace pistols are like some conspiracy:
no need to disarm the public you can just sell them inaccurate jam factories in anemic calibers. even a good 9mm AR doesn't do anything a glock doesn't and is three times the size. thats not to mention how god awful 5.56 is out of a short barrel.
even if there is no conspiracy, they are expensive and dangerous toys. perhaps the conspiracy is to get your money.
I have a QC10 9mm glock AR lower.
4000 rounds through it, only one malfuction (was bump-firing a korean drum mag). I have 100% reliability.
>Spike's 9mm buffer
>QC10 bolt
>Wolff extra strong buffer spring
It's as easy as that. I have a Geissele in it and it's so much fun to shoot. Factory Glock mags work wonderfully. ETS mags are hit and miss and don't always lock up, but I read up and apparently they're like that for almost EVERY carbine. Even non-ARs.
Mine is. I’ve chased a variety of buffer and spring weights as well as a new BCG and no change. However, I recently discovered that mine has a bent ejector, so I plan on replacing that. I wish PSA sold their 9mm ejector by itself. Only replacement I’ve seen is a CMMG and idk if it will fit
problem with ultra short barrels is "dwell time" so to speak
this is due to the straight blowback action opens up too soon combined with the gas pressure leaving the short barrel too fast
plus the super short buffer tubes you guys added
to answer your question OP
they run fucking fine if you know how buffer weight affects a straight blowback action
>they are expensive and dangerous toys
please leave
I would unironically buy one in .380 for the memes and put a 4 inch barrel on it.
I'm just going to leave this here.
>Posting a picture of dog shit
real funny
>How well do all these different parts actually come together?
badly
the problem with 9mm ars is there is no standardization. everyones using the own specs theoretically there should be no issues but in reality there are plenty.
its possible to have a perfectly reliable 9mm ar but you have to check if things are compatible.
only advantage of a pistol carbine is kick right?
in this case no. 9mm has more felt recoil than 5.56 in an ar platform. the bolt weighs more its straight blowback and the projectile is twice the weight.
its not bad cause its still just 9mm but it is more
Everybody says this like every fucking part is going to fuck with the other, but that's simply not the case.
Just get a 9mm buffer and an extra power buffer spring. That's it. If you want to use any hammer, get a ramped bolt which is pmuch standard at this point. The problems people have with 9mm ARs almost always comes down to the buffer because they stick an H2 or something in there and expect it to work. They'll splerge and get every specialty part EXCEPT that then wonder why it doesn't work.
If you get a proper 9mm buffer and a strong buffer spring, you're not going to have any problems. There's not much else going on in a 9mm AR.
did you forget about the whole upper and lower thing?
or mags like glock mags vs colt style
My cz scorpion has had absolutely zero issues in the 1,000+ rounds I have put through it so far.
That doesn't effect reliability. If you have issues with mags, then blame the mags, not the gun itself. That being said, I've yet to find any brand of glock mags that have issues with my lower.
The issue at hand is them being reliable, and whether you have a glock pattern, a colt pattern, or even an MP5 pattern, if you put the right buffer + spring in, it'll run reliably.
Any standard upper will work as well and even some specialty uppers work well too, like side chargers. The lower is just for determining what kind of mags it'll take. They mate up all the same.
dubs confirm a true larper, what is your gun used for? srsly.
resist any police states lately?
Personally I think they're pretty fucking dope and mine will feed any round nose 9mm I put through it (it fucking HATES hollow-point and is quite choosy about flat point). A lot of people dump crazy money into theirs but I figure with no brrt switch it's better to go with simpler & less expensive.
>the problem with 9mm ars is there is no standardization
there is
Colt invented it in the 80s and thus making it the standard
>Colt invented it in the 80s
peak aesthetic, why is no one selling repros of this?
forgot pic
Mine is running with a can on the end, 7.5oz buffer and 308 spring (glock mags). Runs flawless with can on, has shot any ammo I've put through it fine and frankly not a single failure yet after 2k rounds. Not the most comprehensive test or a terribly high round count but just my report so far. Also I haven't shot it without a can yet so I don't actually know if the drop in back pressure would drop reliability or not.
I don't know man, but I love these and the models that looked like a more standard Colt Commando except chambered in 9mm with the stick mags. Those are really good looking guns to me.
Forget 9mm. Get it in .45 & suppress it
AR9s are pure sex
Give me a quick rundown on those granola cups user
hello atf
You really dont want a 9mm AR.
PCC anything is chumpbait
i've been looking for a 9mm carbine. i just bought a glock so i want someting that will take glock mags. Any opinions on the Keltech sub 2000?
Shot my buddies built from a 75% kit and it seemed pretty reliable but the amount of recoil was surprising since it was only 9mm. The recoil wouldn't be that bad if the flat blade arm brace didn't cut into my shoulder each shot. I think a more complex delayed blowback would be more comfortable.
Very fun gun. The 9mm version uses the same recoil spring as the 40, so it prefers heavier grain 9mm while it's being broken in. Mine runs flawlessly on 124 grain winchester NATO.
Not true. Muzzle blast is much lower than a rifle if you ever have to use it for self defense. It isn't going to be permanent hearing damage loud like a sbr 5.56 will be. And +p 9mm out of a 8 inch barrel has the same muzzle energy as .358 magnum out of a 4 inch barrel. And nobody would ever call a 4" .357 magnum revolver insufficient for self defense. Now imagine a 30 shot .357 magnum you can shoulder.
9mm is only weak when fired out of subcompact barrels like 2.5 or 3 inches. +p out of an 8 inch barrel is literally 2x as powerful.
Probably not very if they're a build. I'd trust a manufacturer like Colt, BCM or whoever with a good rep.
PDW stocks sketch me out a bit though even on those
I don't get the appeal of a pdw stock when the sba3 brace exists. The limiting factor is still the buffer tube amd the sba3 collapses to the length of the buffer tube. Why depend on the sketchy pdw latch mechanism when you can use the tried and true AR buffer tube latch system?
And the sba3 is cheaper than any pdw brace i have seen. I have a sba3 on my 12.5" AR, it is great.
I kinda want one of these, but you gotta get a brace and a bunch of other stuff for it. Wish the aftermarket was better.
Where the fuck are you getting uzis
>mfw it's even heavier than most 5.56 AR's
>atlanticfirearms.com
>atlanticfirearms.com
The extra weight is desirable in a full-size subgun. Uzis are meant to primarily shoot full auto (not semi like and AR), so the slow cyclic rate and extra weight keep it controllable.
Maybe if you use broke bitch direct blowbay. Some of use have class
>clips
They're made to do that. CMMG sells a modified dust cover that hides it.
>even a good 9mm AR doesn't do anything a glock doesn't
Well they dont blow up for starters
So, if I want to build an AR-9, it has to be multicaliber, correct? I’d like to use GI magazines, how do I make sure they are straight in the magwell and not at that weird angle.
Pistol caliber ARs make me sick just looking at them. There are so many cool and cheap PCCs. Why would you downgrade the caliber of the AR when you could just buy that cool Beretta 9mm carbine?
hold one out at arms length for five minutes while describing how cool it is
