I've been trying to go trap shooting for the past year and every week I get a chance it either get's sold out or rained out. Fucking weather.

Clay shooting guns are designed to do one thing very well. Aesthetics are secondary.

I do, but thanks to my work schedule I don't get a lot of chances to go.

I used to enjoy it quite a bit. I've sold my field shotguns however. I always went with some friends when possible but I've moved around too much. The NRA members were just the worst people to go shooting with, really obnoxious fudds that just wanted their old club house and range to themselves.

I want to get into clay shooting but I'm a little nervous because I've never been taught how.

Sporting clays is fun as shit compared to the rest. I honestly don't know why the others exist except out of tradition and ritual.

Is there a place near you that offers lessons? It’s not hard to learn, but I was really glad I had someone who knew what they were doing show me the ropes.

If you are fast you can almost point shoot but as they get further out you need to lead.

I havent personally shot skeet but i thought skeet was even more boring than trap? isnt there markets to the left and the right that you're supposed to just aim for and fire right before it gets there?

Skeet or sporting clays. Very rarely do I encounter birds that follow the straight-path like trap therefore it's less useful training for birding season.

Find a field/rent one and get a cheap-as-chips thrower from wallmart - it's like a mix of skeet/traps - shoot with pump-guns with at least 24" barrel and you've got a DIY trap-game

Go to a club and ask to get trained - it's okay. They'll be fine with it. what I did.

Because sporting clays require a TON of space, and most people sell said space to make a golf-course instead. Super shitty because powerlevels go Sporting Clays >>> Skeet >>>(POWERGAP)>>> Trap.

Trump hasn't legalized it yet, but I'm hopeful there will be enough in hiding after DOTR that permanent licenses will be issued for hunting them.

sporting clays is hard as fuck but its super fun. rabbits are awesome or when they fling a clay on its side from your back over top of you so it arcs down fast.

Trap is one shot and the targets move away from you straight or across only. They do however spin them up and launch them at a decent speed. Skeet has more dynamic trajectories and often has multiple targets.

Sporting clays is like a forest walk with dozens of targets (sometimes over 100 during the course)... everything from clays skipping across the ground to surprise launches from behind your head.

Sporting clays is the most fun you can have with a shotgun that isn’t hunting IMO.

Yeah, fuck rabbits. It's made me respect the little fuckers in my garden all the more (and rely on traps instead). They're impossible - local place has a rabbit that wobbles for like a fraction of a second before going back into brush and you're like oh where the fuck did it go and just waste shots at it.

I just fucking ignore it and take the hit to my score.

Its been a while since I did sporting clays but I really want to take my vepr12 out because surprisingly using my holosun hs510c makes busting clays retarded easy. Im sure the fudds won't approve.

Those guys got mad at me for trying out a 28" barrel 870 pump on their skeet range with a Modified choke. They were less pissy when I pulled out a Beretta semi-auto. I loved my over/under too but I traded those out and picked up a 20" HD combat shotgun. That would have made them shit a brick.

Hahahah, in all of the "sins" threads I describe how I do skeet with an 18.5" Mossy 500 with an extended mag and holding shells on my shell-carrier.

The ONLY way I could've made it worse was to add a cutts compensator on the barrel on or run it with ghost rings. Luckily, after I joined, the club realized I was doing it to fuck with people.

They also don't let me shoot singles anymore...

I've had quite the opposite happen to me.
I don't shoot trap or skeet a lot, but now and then I go for a day or two of sporting clays.
There's usually a number of actually serious competition shooters at the compound, so needless to say I got scoffed at a bit when I brought my only shotgun, a Merkel 201e from 1971 with double triggers, fixed chokes, solid rib, etc.
It gets better when start shooting doubles and end with a 90% average.

I took it out pigeon shooting like a month or two ago, there are no rules for pigeons they are a nuisance animal. I didn't have the 25 round drum at the time and no big flocks came near the blind.

That's what I don't understand, why the fuck would you want to ostracize new commers and be douches about what they are using, if they are being safe and having fun. A lot of fudds are anti fun fat fucks and quite frankly its bad for the sport. The club I shoot clays at sometimes is literally fucking dying because no new blood. I used to load the trap houses on wensdays with my grandfather when I was a child and their league had like 100 people give or take, now you're lucky if 2 groups of 5 shoot a round of clays on wensdays. And they got mad that I wasnt loading 1 shell at a time in my vepr. Now i just shoot clays with my buddies and we hand throw rabbits and use a in ground flinger for the little doves and clays.

Also mind you, I was the only person shooting too.

part of the problem is that these guys want to stick with their own kind/their friends - same reason why all of the fraternal societies are dying - because they're not reaching out to new blood, and because they're terrible at marketing.

LIke, who the fuck cares what gun I bring if I'm good at it, and I only load 2x shells per station? I could bring a fucking single shot break open and fucking use that with singles or I could bring an AA-12 - doesn't matter.

Trap shooting seems popular in MN, some of the schools even have trap teams. I wish my school in Iowa had had a trap team when I was a lad.

I use my 870 with mod or imp choke and never had anyone scoff at me where i go, I do let the league shooters go first or stop when they show up. I figure let them shoot and get it over with if there is a comp going on.
