How’s it going, Jow Forums? I’m selling my 7mm Rem Mag for a .308. I know that this is a logical decision, but I can’t shake the feeling that I’m trading a tall and sleek supermodel for a hairy and barely passable trap midget. What can I expect from making this big of a change?
Are you poor and can't afford to feed the 7mm? Is there a hunting regulation that excludes the use of the 7mm and you're going to the .308 for compliancy? Is the 7mm too much recoil and you need something that hits softer?
Logan Reed
No, I just got tired of feeding a 7mm. It’s a Nu-Remington, too, so shooting it pisses me off more than it’s worth. It’ll do a 2 inch group at 100 yards in PERFECT conditions. It’s more gun that what I really need and .308 is plenty and cheap. I’m a recoil junkie (and a 5’5” manlet), so I like the 7 mag punch. I like the caliber, but I’m not hunting anything bigger than deer. Plus, I’ll be better off since I can practice more with cheaper ammo.
Liam Nelson
I was thinking about putting together a 7mm rem mag with a fast twist to reach out farther than my 308 and 6.5 creedmoor... Buy a savage 12 instead.
Christian Evans
2 inches- that's fucking horrible. My buddy's puts the next round in the same hole. I could have sworn his is a savage.
William Peterson
Then it sounds like you made a fair trade for your needs.Unless you all of a sudden want to hunt some of the larger NA game you set with .308 for deer and medium game. Plus more affordable ammo isnt a bad trade off if means more practice for becoming a better shot.
Hunter Powell
I was going to go with a Tikka T3x Lite, but I’ll consider it. Thanks for the suggestion. See if I buy a Remington POS again.
Yeah, I was young and dumb when I bought it. Even asked Jow Forums‘s thoughts. Still bought a Remington like a retard.
Samuel Garcia
get a Savage

7mm: 150 gn 3100 fps .308: 150 gn 2800 fps
Not losing much, really. If you're into the 7mm bore, consider a .270 Win. 150 gn at 3000 fps, pretty damn close to that magnum with much more available ammo and easily sourced brass for reloading (which you need to do if you own a gun you want to put holes very close to each other with).
Robert Hill
I’ve considered reloading, but don’t really know how to get into it. The .270 is a great cartridge, but I don’t see a few hundred FPS as a good payoff for the amount of powder that’s being burned.
Jonathan Foster
Handloadng is actually pretty easy if you are patient. Get a set of tools (press, scale, trickler, powder throw, dies, miscellaneous small goodies) from a good manufacturer (RCBS or Hornady are the ones I like, and Lee makes good dies cheap), follow directions, and have fun.
The payoff with .270 over .308 comes at 300 yards and longer. With the same bullet weight and bullet type, .270 will shoot flatter. The difference isn't significant when hunting, though. They'll both work out to any ethical hunting range (and then some).
Thanks for the info. I appreciate the advice. I have a friend who has a .270 and it looks like a great shooter. I might have to convince him to let me borrow it for a range trip.
I'll warn you ahead of time about that. Any member of the .30-06 family is as addictive as crack to shoot. I have a .308, and it's a good round, but it just isn't quite an -06 and I can't love it.
Blake Roberts
Don’t be a faggot caliber-let Trade it for a 30-378 Wetherby Mag Anything smaller renders a clean kill on deer basically impossible.
Matthew Phillips
He's a 15yo shit poster, that's why.
Landon Perry
Try dipping into the MAGNUM FAGNUM territory. You’ll never get tired of shooting a laser. That’s what’s kept me from switching. I like negligible bullet drop at 300 yards with a 100 yard zero. Fair point. Anything I can fit in my ass can’t kill, right?
Jace Myers
Depends Post boipucci with banana for scale to facilitate optimal caliber selection
>I like negligible bullet drop at 300 yards with a 100 yard zero. That's the reason I'm seriously thinking about getting a .220 Swift with a fast-twist barrel. I'd like to see what a 3500 fps copper solid bullet like a heavy TTSX would do to bambi's cousin.
Easton Price
You know exactly why. Get a life, fat ugly virgin.
But... I’m not... I was at one point in time, but not no more. Plus by the time I was 15 I had built multiple ARs, so...
Caleb Watson
.220 Swift is too normie tier Lazzaroni is what you seek
Levi Barnes
>fat Nuh uhh. >ugly virgin You got me there
Aiden Edwards
A-at least you didn't buy a Remington 770 in fuddy aught six when you turned 18 :(
Jaxson Morris
Yeah keep talkin', internet tough guy.
Samuel Butler
there are lots of 22 cals out there but the 6mm is one of the best LR bullets and will 'do' 1000 yards w/no recoil of note
Jacob Bennett
>Anything smaller renders a clean kill on deer basically impossible. wow, fudd tier BS spotted!
Parker Ross
.224 Valk has caught my eye, too. Haven’t had too much time to research it though. Yeah, that’s pretty bad. I got mine at 15, so it’s excused, right?
Jayden Collins
I'd like the barrel to last long enough to work up a load, though. And, with what I'm hearing about the quality of new Savage rifles (and how amazingly accurate my kiddo's new target .22 was right out of the box), I've even considered a .22-250. I think about it more and more as time goes on. And wholesale hunter has new Savage bolt action rifles for less than nuggets cost. With a wood stock, even.
Besides all that, I'm a teacher married to a teacher and we have two kids at home. Since I have many funs and new funs aren't a priority, and I tend to act like a cheapfag when I consider spending money.
David Hall
You're trading a hot one-night stand for the homely girl next door who will make dinner and have sex in the missionary position for the purpose of procreation with you every day until you die.
Michael Allen
And I'd better admit to some truth here... one of the reasons I want a Swift is I'm an old fart (just turned 50). The Swift was THE hot rod varmint round when I was younger and couldn't afford one.
Gabriel Gonzalez
Savage used to be bottom of the barrel, but they’ve really started making some great rifles lately. My Savage .17 HMR is dead accurate. Ehh. Not bad. The only reason I went with a 7 mag is because I’m a manlet and thought I had something to prove. That and my dad had one and I thought it was cool to shake my “neighbor’s” house. They lived about 600 yards behind our private range.
Hudson Peterson
>I’m a manlet and thought I had something to prove Small man syndrome. Have you gotten better? I think being willing to move to a more sensible caliber is a good sign. I understand the severity of the symptoms is inversely related to self-confidence. I'm the kind of 5'9" guy who weighs 250 and can still hike a few miles with a pretty good sized pack at fifty, I've never felt manletty.
Justin Gomez
Why don't you run a cost/ benefit analysis? Figure how much money it would cost to swap rifles, buy enough .308 to match your current stock, and with whatever money is left, see how many rounds of 7mm you could buy with the difference otherwise.
Xavier Baker
THis. I have a Marlin xl7 in .270 (savage knockoff) that shoots sub moa at 200
Cooper Phillips
I’m 5’5” 150 lbs and run a 6min mile. Got pretty strong because I had something to prove (again). It’s fairly easy to keep up at such a short height, so I still work out and run. But I have gotten better. There’s still some things that rub me the wrong way, but it’s better than it was. That’s what I did and decided on a tikka with a good rail and scope rings. I was getting 7mags for $35 a box last time I checked. The same ammo is $15 for .308 I’ll definitely keep Savage in mind.
Kayden Watson
anything other then milsurp in 30-06 is fudd, the caliber isn't fudd itself.
