Rate my rifle I traded a c308 for. Got it from a boomer construction worker who smelled like tobacco and had the rifle sitting loaded in the back of his suburban with his 8 year old daughter when we met. It had a 3-9x Nikon scope on it, and the first time I took it shooting, the scope turret screws popped off and lost themselves in a pile of leaves. I pawned the scope sans-turret screws for like 30 bucks.

Big old zero shift under completely reasonable temperature conditions. Older models have host of electronics and optics construction issues. Heavy, poor battery life, and expensive for what they are. Newer models still have thermal zero shift issues, just now Eotech has a disclaimer card saying lol sorry guys your $500 red dot might shift 4" at 100 yards if it is a hot day in Arizona or a cold day in North Dakota.

Meh. Red dot is decent. Save it for a pistol build or some other shorter 5.56 AR
Lower is decent. Is the upper Stag also? Replace the rail with a KAC rail, get a carry handle for it or save up for an ACOG. Replace AFG with KAC VFG. Use USGI style mags. You get the idea.

Plus 4 moa is about the margin of accuracy one ought to expect out of a fighting gun in the first place. Is it ideal? No, but not really a serious issue either. Just confirmed with my buddy who has a brand new one. Eotech supplied card says 3.5" at -4 F and 122 degree F. Leave the red dot out in the sun on a Texas summer day and you'll hit that easily. Fucking abysmal.

Depends on intended paper size. 400m with a dot might be stretching it. Acog would make it easily doable. 1-6 like a K16i would make it childs play

So this might sound dumb but I'm reconsidering getting the BCM BFH CHF ELW 14.5" MCMR upper. I really don't like the look (personally) of the 13" rail on the 14.5" barrel. I would much prefer a 12" rail or so.
Thoughts on getting the BCM BFH CHF ELW 14.5" barrel by itself, or the Daniel Defense CHF Lightweight profile 14.5" barrel, throwing that in an Aero upper, then going with a 12" SLR rail, and a Ti gas block?
Pic related is my old 14.5" build with 11.7" rail. Man I loved that build.

only 12" rails are the qrf and a variety of dickmod. maybe DD has the specs youre looking for, 1" difference isnt that noticeable, I also wanted a rail in the 11.5-12 but said fuck it when I saw a practically brand new stripped upper and mcmr for $150 on AL.

Oh my god, wuggy. Literally laffin hard. Relax, im not attacking you, im giving you actual advice. I know you like your LARP and im not disparging your choice of preferred firearms. However, there are qualities to semiautomatic rifles that are not condusive to proper fundamentals. The cheek weld is inconsistent for optics, there can be a lot of flex and play, and the cycling action affects your follow up. A bolt action is much better suited to PRACTICING marksmanship, thats all. You will greatly improve your groups by spending that money on even a cheap boltgun and shooting yourself some really nice groups from a variety of positions.
