Revolvers are pistols FYI. You should get a full size, hammer fired semi auto so you can focus on the fundamentals of shooting and operating a handgun. Beretta 92 is my recommendation.
Why not a revolver pistol?
^this
With cheaper revolvers like the m200 you will not be able to distinguish what is the reason why your shots are pulling left up down or right because it might be the gun or the trigger or size of the grip.
the 92 is as accurate. It will shoot exactly where you aim it and if it doesn't then it is on you and it will be easy to pinpoint what you were doing wrong to adjust it.
Also 38 special and 357 can get pricey. 9mm is cheap so you can get more practice time.
92 is also very desired so once you have learned basics you can trade or sell the 92 to get a revolver as they are still very sought after.
First gun, get a rifle.
Hand guns, I'd probably lean toward revolvers. Chances are you'll find a revolver you like fairly easily. Semi's are kind of a sucking hole of stuff you just sort of hate less.
handgun shooting is a whole different league from any rifle or shotgun shooting. A 9mm semiautomatic (as opposed to revolver) is a solid start, ammo is cheap and packs enough punch to train you to handle the sound and recoil.
Personally I just started shooting handguns this year, bought an FN 509 off a friend cheap (was thinning his herd of ~30 diff guns) and have learned a lot with ~2hrs instruction and no courses (yet) at my local indoor range. sure they're expensive, but it's nice to be able to call up whenever i want and reserve my own spot.
I bought the 509 because it was designed for military service, with tall sights and breaks down into 4 easy pieces in seconds, easy to clean and fewer moving parts (being striker-fired and safeties built-in as opposed to manually switched off/on) and I'm in fucking love with it. just my two cents.
>inb4 hate & inexperience
we all started somewhere
Its a tired meme, but just buy a Glock 19. Yes, they are a little overpriced for what you seem to be getting. No, they are not plastic trash guns. Yes they are ugly. No, they do not have bad ergonomics.
Glocks are simply incredibly reliable, simple to operate pistols made to fit the needs of professionals and novices alike. The heavier trigger is good for newbies who want to learn proper trigger pull technique, and professionals who want to minimize the chance of accidental discharge. Glocks are streamlined, rugged guns that are infinitely customize should you want to add features to it once you've gained some proficiency. Later on, if you find out you really like pistol shooting, you can get a more niche fun gun like a 1911, CZ, H&K, etc.
If you are serious about becoming a good pistol shooter, learn your fundamentals on a Glock. If its good enough for fucking Delta Force, its good enough for anything you need it for.
If you want to git gud with a handgun mastering the double action trigger of a revolver will make every other trigger seem easy.

Don't buy that M200 though. Find you a nice used S&W model 10.
Depends on what you like.
How much are you looking to spend?
Pistols are handguns with the chamber integral to the barrel.
On revolvers, the barrel is a separate piece, and it has multiple chambers in a separate cylinder assembly, the cylinder rotating to line its chambers up with the barrel.
A revolver is technically not a pistol.
>Semi's are kind of a sucking hole of stuff you just sort of hate less.
Subjective.
Second this (though I have a G17; 19 was too small for my big fat sausage stumps). Glocks are fairly retard-proof. The safety is the trigger. Don't pull it and it won't go bang, simple as that.
>The safety is the trigger. Don't pull it and it won't go bang, simple as that.
so....just like a revolver...
Learning on revolvers makes you take your time. I see so many youngfags rushing their shots because "hey I got 87 rounds in the gun". It's kind of like the difference between practicing on a semi/vs bolt rifle. You take your time with each shot when using a bolt gun because each round is a discreet unit unlike a semi where the discrete unit seems to be the entire magazine.
speaking of cheap revolvers, is the Windicator complete trash or will it hold up to .357/.38+P?
>Its a tired meme, but just buy a Glock 19. Yes, they are a little overpriced for what you seem to be getting. No, they are not plastic trash guns. Yes they are ugly. No, they do not have bad ergonomics.
They are literally the Toyota of guns. More expensive than the competition, dead nuts reliable, rather plain looking.
And EVERYONE knows somebody that has had one.
I vote for revolver cuz they're cool and my 1st purchase was a 357 mag and its still my fav gun.
>No, they are not plastic trash guns.
True, they are pretty good.
>Yes they are ugly.
As far as combat tupperware goes, they're pretty ok looking, IMO.
>No, they do not have bad ergonomics.
Subjective, some love the grip, some find it ok, some hate it.
Some gens have finger grooves, while others don't, and to some the regular grip was fine, but the finger grooves ruined it.
I'm not saying don't try one out, but the grip, and also the trigger, will not suit everyone's tastes.
It's trash. Save up the extra $50-$75 bucks and get a used model 10 user.

Have you ever auctioned something on Gunbroker? How does it work if you have to ship it? I've only ever used Armslist.
i already have a Model 10 and a Model 64, but my only .357 is a convertible Blackhawk and i want a relatively inexpensive .357. oh well, guess i'll keep hunting for a good condition Security Six or GP100.
That's a retarded observation, dumbasses dump their cylinder or repeater magazines anyway. Go be a fudd fuckstain somewhere else.
Thats a problem with the person, not the gun action
buy local. you'll still have to visit and deal with an ffl so might as well find your local shop and stop in.
I've never sold on GB. I think it's stupid expensive to ship a gun if you're not an FFL though. Seems like whenever i see a listing sold by a non-FFL under shipping it says something like "buyer pays actual shipping costs" which I translate into "it's gonna cost $75 to ship it overnight and you're gonna pay that shit". Maybe someone with actual listing experience as a non-FFL can chime in.
I only buy from FFLs with inspection periods and lots of positive feedback.
Fuck off.
Sorry bro all youngfags/noob shooters will get ahead of themselves a lot easier with a semi than with a revolver or single shot gun. Learning control is part of shooting and I've never trained a noob who had any right from the get go.
Man how can anyone be so butthurt this early in the day?
Ah fuck. I'm trying to sell a gun that I don't need or use right now...but fuck does it seem like a such a hassle. LGS says the gunbroker price = the price they will pay me which is like 200 fucking dollars, they are a cool place besides that horseshit.
Ah fuck it. I'll just go Armslist or try a couple other gunshops in my area.
>I'll just go Armslist
That's what I use. Never had any issues. Just price your shit thinking about what you would want to pay for whatever you're selling.
Or you can just load the magazines for five rounds and you're effectively in the same boat, you stupid old fuck.
Fair enough. Even on craigslist I don't bother with overpricing my stuff expecting to haggle. I price it at a bit below what I would want to pay and say that's the price.
>what's your bottom dollar?
You're looking at it, bub.
this
Get a 1911. Genius simple and reliable design, disassembles without tools. Crisp single action trigger. Comes in 9mm for inexpensive feeding. Points and shoots like a dream.
Berettas are clunkier and needlessly complicated. Decockers and shit nobody needs. Consider a CZ 75 instead.
Revolvers are really only useful anymore for really deep concealment or big bore hunting calibers that don't easily fit in a semiauto.
I'm guessing you haven't done much double action revolver shooting?
Also if you don't want to get a bunch of "will you take X in trade" emails put "cash only no trades" in your post.
Nice, thanks for the advice user.
>Revolvers are really only useful anymore for really deep concealment or big bore hunting calibers that don't easily fit in a semiauto.
This. If you aren't carrying a J Frame in your pocket on the streets or a .44 Magnum in a shoulder holster in the woods, you should have a semiauto. They are by and large superior to revolvers for most common carry.
The longer and heavier trigger makes little effective difference.
I can show you some DAO automatics if you want.
>The longer and heavier trigger makes little effective difference.
Confirmed for limited experience shooting wheelgats.
>shoot a 12lb double action snubnose trigger a lot
>get good
>pick up a small Glock with a "mushy heavy trigger"
>feels like a match gun
I'm 100% convinced that shooting is all about perception
>I'm 100% convinced that life is all about perception
The universe exists between your ears user.
your observation is correct for regular everyday pistol shooting, but light triggers really make a difference in rifle shooting especially at range
super light triggers on pistols are dumb tbhwy
so what's it gonna be OP
You should lurk more
fudd/10 advice. Don't you think >>>calguns.net is more your kind of place?
Youngfags are so weak. Here's (you)'re participation trophy kid.
>super light triggers on pistols are dumb tbhwy
Not for a target gun.
Glock 19, period. It's the standard. Everyone has one. It works just fine. You can shoot it at the range or ccw. Truly a do it all gun.
Thanks. I'll be sure to hello to you at the range. I assume you'll be the overweight guy in jean shorts shooting a crusty GP100 and saying "Yup, yuh only really six shots if yurr gud, hyuk" to no one in particular.
No I'll be the old fat white guy wearing khaki hiking pants doing drills with my 20yr old EDC G19 and J-frame. Then I'll be having some general fun time with my vintage wheelguns. I won't talk to you unless it's about general range use.
>I'll be the old fat white guy wearing khaki hiking pants
Maybe you should do some hiking in those pants
I do 6+ miles 2-3 days a week.
honestly this
>tons of aftermarket parts and holster
>9mm is cheap
>easy to maintain
>once you can use it effectively you can use every other glock effectively
I'm not even that big of a glock fag (I only have a 30s for carrying) but this is the route I wish I went, I started out with a cheap 1911 which was fine but .45 was a bit too expensive and now i'm having a bit of a bitch of a time getting used to glocks
Get a rifle first
This fudd nigger gets it. Anyone that argues is guilty.
A revolver can be a good first gun. You won't have to buy magazines, for one.
First gun? Get a rifle. A bolt action .223 is a great start.
Dont give advice unless you know what you're talking about.
>getting a plastic fuddgat instead of a budget AR-15
>get a 1911
the bottom tier 1911s like Rock Islands which are still iffy quality are about the same price as a fucking 92. 1911s are expensive as shit and notoriously finicky to disassemble, what the hell are you talking about?
unironically this. AR's are quickly becoming the go-to first gun for a lot of reasons and i recommend them for it. parts are everywhere, ammo is everywhere, operation manuals are everywhere, it's crazy versatile and can be used for varmint hunting to self defense to just plain fun range shooting, so on so forth. a rifle is a great choice for a first gun because they're more forgiving to learn than handguns and more versatile. probably the only downsides are that you obviously can't conceal a rifle obviously and they're a big more clunky to use in home defense scenarios, but that's it.
a shotgun like the maverick 88 or mossberg 500 is also an excellent first gun because it retains that versatility, but you can't really go to indoor ranges with one, or really shoot for accuracy unless you're pattering different types of ammo.
if you're set on buying a pistol for some reason, seconding what a bunch of anons said, just get a glock 19. it's the AR of pistols.
if you want a decent revolver, get a ruger or smith & wesson. i've handled the cheap-ass filipino or brazilian or mexican revolvers or whatever and there's so much slop. there's too much that can go wrong with loose tolerances in a revolver.
He's not wrong. A pistol can be an auto or a revolver.
Honestly this, other than the fact the mag pinches my pinky and the sights aren’t very good (not a huge deal on both parts) the gun is just excellent. I honestly regret wasting so much time searching when the answer was in front of my face the whole time
>39083242
according to the ATF it is now fuck off
>pistol>semi-auto
>pistol>single action
>pistol>revolver
>etc
Buy a small pocket gun. it will teach you good handling etiquette, and if you can shoot with a gun like an LCP you can shoot with anything.
Personally, I'd say a compact. It would still be large enough to control easily, while small enough to conceal if OP wants to do that later down the road.
