I'll be driving from Europe to South Africa with my Nissan Patrol.
I was thinking about getting a gun because it's not the safest place on earth but how does it look in the international law? If I have a legal gun in Europe can I just take it with me or will it be confiscated at some point?

Short answer no... long answer yes.
Its possible, but EXTRAORDINARILY unlikely.
If you are a professional hunter, and file a literal mountain of paperwork with every jurisdiction that you travel through, it would take years to get approved, it could be done.
That being said, most African countries dont really enforce the law. The gamble you take with this is you will die in an African prison, or just outright be murdered by the police if they think you have bad intentions. I lived in Africa for a few years, it's a very bizarre place. Also, the police love bribes, even if you arent committing a crime, you should bribe them if they contact you. I would strongly recommend you do not travel unguided. There are many excellent mercenaries that make a living guiding you safely, some provinces economies are heavily reliant on it. Also, stay the fuck away from Muslims, especially Sunni.
