Pretty much this. Most tv shows just use airshit and film armorers can only make suggestions, if the director thinks something else looks better or producer doesnt care for how much accurate props will cost they'll ignore him; hence why TWDs guns were such a shitshow. Its a pretty petty thing to get upset about, and I say that as someone who will drop a show if I hear anyone dramatically pull back the hammer or flick the safety on a glock.
